Pros:
- Device feels very solid and sturdy
- Despite being a lot thicker, one hand operation is great on the Z Fold3
- Front screen may have looked proportionally awkward in pictures, but feels perfectly fine in person
- Snapdragon 888 and the 16GB of ram makes everything run well
- The 120Hz VRR and OLED screen makes the display look amazing
- With the 7.6" unfolded display, you pretty much don't need a tablet anymore
- Fingerprint unlock is fast
- Crease is negligible when using in-doors/in dimmer areas, especially when watching content.
Cons:
- More dust gets trapped between the inner screens that expected
- Camera quality is not bad, but it pales in comparison to the S21 Ultra
- For the price of a Z Fold3, you can get the newer and better specced S22 Ultra plus a Tab A8
- The in-display selfie camera could use some improvement
- Crease becomes much more noticeable when under light/sunlight
- Crease is especially noticeable in white backgrounds
- The inner screen doesn't feel completely flat and smooth (you can feel bumps)
- Cases make the device unbearably thicker and heavier, especially with cases that support the S Pen
Conclusion:
I love the idea of folding phones, but the many compromises prevented me from actually getting one until the Z Fold3. Having used it for a few weeks now, I'm still kind of torn between whether the pros outweigh the caveats or vice versa. I love using the phone when it's unfolded, especially for reading and for media consumption. However, I have to say that throughout most of the day, I end up using the front screen way more often. For texts, whatsapp, slack messages, I find myself using the front screen to reply 95% of the time and while I've gotten used to one hand typing again, I still prefer two hand typing for better speed and accuracy.
In terms of photos, I saw 2 wild baby bunnies and decided to snap a few pictures with the Z Fold3. As I didn't want to get too close, I decided to use the zoom camera but the lack of the optical zoom lenses found on the S21 Ultra really took a toll on the quality of those pictures.
While I do love the versatility of the phone so far, I feel like there's so many areas where it can still improve upon. I would have preferred if the phone in its folded state was just a little bit wider so you could still type comfortable with 2 hands. The wider set up would also help media consumption when unfolded so that the aspect ratio wouldn't be as weird. While the cameras aren't bad, it would have also been nice to get a better optical zoom lens fitted in. The inner "hidden" selfie camera also seemed like an after thought and seems kind of half-assed when the technology already exists. Even though the current Z Fold3 does support the S pen, not having an internal slot for it kind of defeats the purpose and having a case that can fit one makes the unit way too bulky.

- It folds
- Screen is beautiful. Colors are realistic and refresh rate is buttery smooth
- Ample storage at 512gb
- Snappy with the snapdragon. More ram than ever required in a phone
- Aspect ratio of the folding screen makes for a great experience using things like maps or looking at graphs or investment charts. Sites like YouTube are much more intuitive.
- Easy pairing of other Samsung devices. I have galaxy buds pro as well as the galaxy watch 4. Seemless pairing on Samsung. Should be seemless with every android phone, but at least it's easy if you're stuck in the Samsung ecosystem.
- Camera is top tier. Samsung has done an excellent job making the most out of the included sensors.
- Allowing to wireless charge other devices using the phone is an excellent feature! I've had my galaxy 4 watch for 2 weeks and constantly need juice in it. The fact I don't need to carry around a wireless charger as it's built-in on the phone is great.
Cons:
- Samsung goes out of their way to force you to use Samsung software at every turn. The software tends to be buggy and easy work arounds in the Google ecosystem are gone from settings. So easy to give users the option of a vanilla install with bare minimum alterations or at least allow removal of unwanted items.
- Cases all suck. I went with a high end spigen and even with a half a roll of 2 sided tape the form factor makes it very difficult to have any manufacturer design a proper case. Samsung should have released their own.
- NOTHING in the way of accessories. You get an OK ($10 value) charging cable and that's it. No charging wart (one to take advantage of this speed of quick charging is $65) and no S-Pen. For the price, it should be included. I understand the use the excuse, and it is an excuse to cheap out, of "ewaste" but it should be an option to have it shipped seperately at buyer request.
- Front screens aspect ratio makes it virtually useless. Keyboard is squished and difficult to type on.
- Bigsby still sucks. They're kicking a dead horse. Google assistant is superior in every way.
- Underscreen camera is still quite noticeable. It's sad the budget mid-ranged ZTE Axon 30 can hide the camera SO WELL and sell it in a $499 phone. Meanwhile Samsung is selling a phone for the price of a used car and can't bother with the R&D. It's easily 2 years behind ZTE.
Conclusions:
As with the monopolizing enterprise known as Samsung, they've made an excellent overall rounded phone with a few caveats that should have been addressed. I'm looking forward to a company such as Oneplus to come out with a similar concept phone using oxygenOS and I'm sure I'd pawn off this for that. Having said that, it's a head turner and makes your phone a far more functional device for productivity and consumption of media than ever before.
