A cool old school planetarium projector

A cool old school planetarium projector
This is a planetarium star projector... But are the upgrades even real... I question the validity of their claims. This is a cool example of old school ingenuity and micro dot printing at work. Think back to the early 50s when acetate was used to project classroom math or other assignments. Heck we even had that when I was a young lad back in the 80s. This is a modern take on that old classic. Yet it lack in overall brightness leaving the images that could have been out of this world. Somewhat flat dull and lifeless. It's a shame since this is a cool concept. The build:This unit is comprised of plastic. I would consider it to be lower mid grade tear. The concept is simple you have a light source, a disk with an image inserted onto it. You place the image on the holder and voila. You can project it on to any surface you desire. The unit comes with a focus adjustment ring on the top, simply rotate to pull clear focus from any distance. This model also comes with 12 different images to choose from. They will slowly rotate if you've activated the function on the main unit. You also have a timer adjustment and on off toggle switch. The rotation and timer have 3 different settings. Allowing you to set it and forget it.Led:This is where the product falls short. The led module used isn't bright enough to combat the slightest ambient light. It really is a shame since the company has stated the 2024 model solves the issue it had with it's predecessor. If this is what the new model looks like. Oh boy the other one must have been horribly dim.Final thoughts:A cool concept that falls short but still delivers an interesting visual space scape that captivates the imagination. 3.8 out of 5

Definitely not 4K as noiced by others. The image cannot be clear everywhere because most time the light is not coming from straight under. It is projected on an angle, thus when adjusting the focus, it may be clear at your head but unfocused further from you. It's a nice gadget as a nightlight, but as far as the images are concerned, they are not the best image representing space.

Compared to similar products, this one is studier and more stable. You can adjust the angle of projection over a wide range without the device tipping over.

Power cable is a convenient USB-C and it is provided with a decent length.

There are many different types of slides that you can use to create different atmospheres; vibrant colorful ones, and darker more subtle ones.

Although the device is pretty bright, I can't seem to adjust the focus knob to have an image that is as crisp as the ones I have seen on the photos.

Furthermore, I don't know how long the slides will survive the heat and the dust as it accumulates. Some of these slides might need to be replaced over time. Still, there are many slides provided, so it might not be much of an issue. Especially at this price.

Overall, it's a great retro-style projector that works as described.

The pictures are nice but look like they came out of an old science fiction movie from the 50’s

It's pretty neat for what it is. At the end of the day, it's nothing too too amazing, but it is what it is. Really it's just a projector light with discs in a plastic package.

But it works exactly as advertised and I've had no problems with it.

It's not very expensive either which is why it got 5 stars, because of the value. If this was priced higher I may have given it 4 stars for lack of value. But this is pretty inexpensive and it does work fairly well.

The planetarium star projector offers a glimpse into the past with its old charm and micro dot printing technology. Reminiscent of the classroom projectors from the 80s, it aims to bring the wonders of the cosmos into your home. However, despite its intriguing concept, the execution leaves much to be desired.

Constructed primarily of plastic, the build quality is passable but lacks the durability expected from a modern device. The projector features a simple setup: a light source, an image disk, and a focus adjustment ring for clarity. Additionally, it offers 12 different images to choose from, which can rotate slowly if desired, along with timer and rotation settings for convenience.

Unfortunately, the LED module struggles to overcome even minimal ambient light. Despite claims of improvements in the 2024 model, the brightness issue remains a significant drawback. This limitation detracts from the overall visual experience, leaving the projected images appearing flat and lacking vibrancy.

Having to change disc by disc was a hassle, I would love to have all the images stored in the projector or a disc with several images, but in this case, you have to change each disc to show a single image each time.

In conclusion, while the planetarium projector offers an intriguing concept, it ultimately didn’t meet my expectations. I feel it was overpriced for what it is, some sort of Magic Viewer (like “Super Vision” or “ViewMaster”) from the 80’s. Although it still manages to provide a visual display of the cosmos, the lack of brightness and exhausting disc changes hampers its ability to truly transport users to distant galaxies.
