I've had both the initial version and this second version. The updated version is a significant improvement in a number of ways. The first version I bought would loosen over time, and it could only be tightened with a socket wrench. Since I don't own a wrench I just never tightened it, and my monitor would flop down during shoots, sometimes so hard that a battery would come loose, which in one instance damaged footage. This new version tightens with a knob, which is great. It also has nice locking pins that keep my monitor from swivelling. And unlike the first version, which needed to be tightened with an allen key, this one can be tightened by hand and stay relatively tight (you can get it tighter with the allen key, but it's so nice just to get it mostly tight by hand). This thing is absolutely solid, and I trust it to hold my monitor 100%.

I bought a second one of these after a previous purchase of the same items. So fare I have not been disappointed by a Small Rig product. I use it to attach my Ninja V recorder to the top of my camera or cage. previous products simply were not sturdy enough to hold the weight of the recorder, ssd card and large battery. But this one does. I specifically like the 2 aluminum screw that allow proper tightening and if your hands are cold or too big, the holes in them that allow a hex key of small screwdriver really allow for good attachment. The hex key that comes with it also allow adjustment of the screws that control the swivel and for a heavier recorder like mine it is great to know it will not wobble or sag.
