I'll admit that I was skeptical about this product to start with. For the price compared to some almost identical name-brand competitors, it looked like a cheap knockoff. It also looks like a flimsy design, and I was afraid that my laptop might move or shake. I was pleasantly surprised when I received it, as it seems fairly well built. The packaging was nice and well laid out, and assembly was easy. The item is as shown in the pictures, except the thumbscrews have a T shape instead of a round knob head.
I've been looking for a clamp-on stand for a while, to raise my laptop to eye level while also freeing up some desk space. This one clamps securely onto my Ikea Linnmon desk, and takes up very little depth. I do use a wireless keyboard and mouse when I have it docked, but it's at a nice angle if I have to type a sentence here or there and I have my keyboard put aside.
When assembled and clamped onto the desk, the front of my laptop was about 7.5 inches off the desk at the lowest height. This was a bit tall for my liking, so I cut one hole off each side to make the stand a little shorter, about 6" now. It still looks good and works well, and I'm very happy.
