How many hours of direct sunlight does a Ring solar panel need for my device to stay charged?

For best performance, Ring recommends at least 2-3 hours of direct sunlight per day for Solar Panel. With the recommended amount of direct sunlight, the device will remain continuously charged under most conditions. Make sure there are no obstructions or objects that could cast a shadow on your solar panel, such as an extended roof, tree, or bush.

Will solar power keep my Ring device charged during cloudy or seasonal weather?

Ring solar products require direct sunlight to stay charged and provide power to the device. If the weather is cloudy or it rains/snows, this would limit the direct sunlight your device receives, which would lessen the charge. Colder temperatures may also cause excessive drain to your device’s lithium-ion battery. With prolonged cloudy or winter weather, you may need to manually recharge the battery more frequently. When sunny weather returns and the solar panel receives enough direct sunlight again, it will keep the device powered.

How can I install my solar panel to get the most sunlight and the maximum solar charge?

Seasonality and how far north or south you live affects the strength of the sun. If you live in the northern hemisphere, install your solar panel facing South. If you live in the southern hemisphere, install it facing North. Ring recommends to use the adjustable arm to angle the panel at about 45 degrees toward the sky to get the most sunlight possible.

Will a Ring solar panel keep my device fully charged at 100% battery level?

The battery level of the device will vary based on the amount of direct sunlight the solar panel receives. Even with exposure to maximum sunlight, the battery level will not exceed a threshold of around 80%—this is to extend the lifetime of the battery.

Installed three of these - one for each of my three ring outdoor cameras. I previously had Blink cameras with solar panels and they did not require any batteries once the solar panel was connected and the solar worked perfectly. For these Ring cameras, you need to leave the large rechargeable batteries in the camera when you install the solar panel and the solar panel (4W version - their largest) does not keep the batteries charged. Very disappointed. These cameras are either very poorly designed from an energy consumption standpoint or the Ring solar panels are poorly designed. Either way, these solar panels are not a good investment for your Ring cameras. I recommend only using Ring's hardwired cameras if you are buying Ring.

Aún cuando la recomendación de Amazon sea primero la opción más económica (el panel solar de 2W) este es el panel correcto para mantener las cámaras cargadas y con opciones a usar un poco más de energía para una mayor sensibilidad a movimientos.

Aún cuando es más caro que el otro kit, vale la pena que ahorren un poco más y consigan este directamente.

El panel en sí funciona de maravilla, hace su trabajo y mantiene cargada la cámara en uso (Spotlight plus) PERO requiere que la cámara se mantenga configurada como usando batería, ya que el configurar la cámara como conectada a la pared la hace más sensible, pero también consume más batería. Si bien el panel en un día soleado puede, muy apenas, dar abasto a la camara en este modo, al ocultarse el sol y hacerse de noche, la batería quedará totalmente drenada en unas 8 horas. Ojalá haya actualizaciones al software de la cámara para permitir una combinación de modos a futuro, aunque esto recae en la cámara, hago esta observación por si el lector tiene la inquietud de usar el pánel como sustituto de suministro electrico AC "de pared".
