The camera faces out my front door through a window. It sits on a ledge over the front doors. I needed a battery operated camera because there is no electrical outlet nearby. The picture is clear. The motion detection is almost zero since it’s pointing through a window. I didn’t know that when I bought the camera. I have a central alarm but wanted a visual of the front of the house. Because of where I would have to connect a ring doorbell I wouldn’t have the clear view I needed. I can go live anytime from anywhere and record. So for me it’s good enough. The other issue I had and resolved was the reflection from the glass if indoor lights were on. The reflection would set off the motion. I resolved it by covering the window with black paper and just cut a hole in front of the lens. Even the cut hole created a reflection so I taped some black paper behind the camera. That solved the reflection issue One charge can last me easily 10 days or longer. I got a Ring spare battery not a knock off so I can switch the battery in seconds and be back up and operating quickly. Highly recommend if you don’t need full time live coverage and motion detection not a major issue.

After trying 4 other brands and returning them all within 24 hours I finally found this Ring camera that works flawlessly. It was relatively easy to set up, and I’ve had no problems. I bought my first one a year ago and was so impressed that I immediately bought a 2nd one to keep an eye on my 95 year old mom in another city. I’ve recently added a 3rd camera to watch my back yard ( bears). I can look at the clips from all three cameras on one page of my phone and IPad and I can send clips via email to my neighbours when I catch suspicious people in my yard or wildlife alerts.

I started with a Ring doorbell and decided to add some cameras along the way. The stick up cams are quite easy to set up and add to your Ring account. It will add some yearly costs to Ring Protect if you go that way, but for 3 cams and my doorbell I'm paying $16CAD for the service, which seems reasonable in the case the footage is needed for some sort of insurance or whatnot in the future.

There are a couple things I wish worked a bit better:
1. The color night vision is meh. I have it off on all cams.
2. Detecting a person takes several seconds and ends up with the recording capturing about 1/2 or less of the person passing through the covered zone. You can alleviate some of this with linked recordings (I link my front yard camera to the side so they trigger together) but that does shorten battery life.
3. The biggest over sell for this product is the batter life. Cams delivered June 28, today is July 20 and I have low battery warnings on 2 cameras. I understand that various settings eat into batter expectations, but "6-12 months" is just wildy out of touch with reality.

For the battery life, I had the forethought to mount the cameras outside a window within arms reach so I don't have to get a ladder to remove/charge the batteries... except for one that I had no choice but to place where it is in order to cover my back yard. I will likely get a solar panel for that one.

Don't forget to buy ceiling mounts if you are placing them on the eaves of your house or want them on a wall but facing 90 degrees to that wall, like down the side of your house.

I wish there were more settings for how linking works. I'd love Backyard to always trigger Side and Front to always trigger Side, but also Side to trigger back IF front triggered Side. That kind of logic would allow me to make sure I capture someones full passage from my front yard to the side walkway to the back yard seamlessly, without just triggering all 3 cameras every time one goes off.

All in all, I like these and think they are good value, especially on the big sale days like Prime Day or BFCM.
