At first I thought this BP175 was a rip-off, because the display would say my "Region 2 discs need a Region 2 player!" Eventually I noticed other customers' comments that you have to enter the region code BEFORE closing the disc tray! Strange that the item description leaves that necessary information out. From other buyers I can see that I'm not the only one who had this problem! Customer support is non-existent. The seller: (220-electronics Canada) ignores messages. I already had an LG BP300 and was very happy with it, but wanted to be able to play some Region 2 (B) discs from England.

This is the very first multi region Blu ray player I have ever owned, so keep that in mind while reading this review.

I ordered a rare movie from another country, with region 2 DVDs and PAL color system. My standard NTSC Blu ray player would not play the disc, but this one played it with no issues. Also, the DVD I bought was a region 0, so I haven't actually tried a dedicated region 2 or other region DVD. But there is no reason to suspect it will have issues.

When the item arrives, it may have a notice saying the unit has been taken apart to be modified, but that it is still a new unit. This shouldn't be cause for concern.

One last thing to keep in mind is that standard remote codes for this unit may not work with all universal remotes. It took me some time to find the remote code for my particular universal remote. However, in the age of online manuals and tutorials, it's only a matter of time to find the right code. A pretty small price to pay.

Over all, a very nice unit. It's actually going to be replacing my old Blu Ray player.
