Excluding my more bulky cellphones/smartphones, I have 2 other voice recording capable devices and I thought that I would get this voice recorder since it looks like a standard pen.

I tested it out and for what it is and what it looks like, I was impressed with the recording quality I obtained from this device.

It is easy enough to turn on since you just need to push the top of the device.

It charges via microUSB and charges relatively quickly (under 1.5 hours when I tried it).

At 64GB of non-expandable memory, it can sufficiently hold the recording for 16 days at the highest quality (384kbps) according to the documentation.

To listen to what is recorded, it comes with the necessary adapter to connect headphones to it and listen to it (or connect it to an Android tablet/smartphone or computer to copy the WAV file and then play it on the Android device or the computer.

I believe that one of my other voice recorders which is shaped like a USB flash drive is made by the same company (as the boxes are very similar) and they function very similar (including having a Windows file to set the date/time). This voice/sound recording pen costs the same as the one which is shaped like a USB flash drive and functions the same and I would say that the sound quality is similar.

Included with the device are 2 manuals (one in English and one in French with QR codes in the manual to get the PDF instructional manual in German, Spanish, and Italian along with of course English and French), standard headphones, a standard microUSB cable to USB-A cable for charging and data transfer, an adapter to plug connect this pen to standard headphones, a small screwdriver, an OTG adapter, and 5 ink refills.

I would recommend this device for anyone who wants a voice recording device which is inconspicuously shaped like a pen.

A negative that I have to say about this device is that when recording a lecture, I would suggest trying to avoid using it as a pen at the same time since this can affect the recording quality. Another negative that I have to say is that the recording feature can be activated and deactivated too easily. It would be preferable in my opinion that to activate it or deactivate it, the button mechanism should be similar to that of an actual pen (where it takes a hard push and makes a click/lock noise). The actual mechanism can be accidentally turned on or off as the top only needs to be lightly depressed once.

On legalities, when using the device, you need to make sure that you are either in jurisdiction that has one party consent (in Canada, we have one party consent) or if using it in the US or another part of the world, you should make sure that you have the consent of all the people being recorded.

I don't really know what this is supposed to be. I call it my "spy pen" although I don't use it to spy on anybody. But I honestly could, so long as I wasn't also using it to write at the same time.

It's quite cool how they made it look and function just like any other pen. The big button on top does sorta give it away, especially since it doesn't actually make the pen go out, but it's convincing at a glance or from afar.

But if you're writing with this thing while recording, expect to hear mostly "scratch-scratch-scribble-scratch". The sound quality otherwise is alright, although there is a lot of static.

But it's enough to be able to record, say, a conversation or lecture. If you had it in your pocket or on a desk or something - not if you were actively writing with it.

Also, the design of the pen makes it so that there's only a bit of ink that can go in it, since most of the pen is actually a recorder. But at least it comes with several refills, although I don't know how long they'd last or where you'd hope to get others.

But all that aside, it's a really handy voice recorder in a bit of an unconventional package. Comes with all the cables and such you need to make it really useful. I like the little plug-in remote that acts as a pass-through to a 3.5mm plug. Lots of nice little touches, IMO.

Interestingly enough, my pen came with several hours of what appear to be factory/warehouse recordings from where it was produced. Maybe it's a little too good at its own job XD.

But while there are no lights or anything on the pen, you can tell when it's recording or not by if the top button is pressed in or not. Mind you, I don't think you'd be able to know when the battery is dead. But it really has a long battery life, at least so far while it's new, so if you plan it right and recharge it often enough that won't be an issue.

- The pen recorder is really nice. To record, just pressed the top button and to stop, pressed it again. There is also a voice activated function but to change it, you need to go into a text file of the pen and change the text. You need the manual to understand what changes which settings. It may seem hard, but it's quite easy to do. Also, I’d suggest saving this file separately onto your computer so in case you messed up the original file and so you still have the backup one from your computer.

- To listen to your recordings, you can hear it via the remote adapter + headphones (included in package) or use the OTG adapters (included) to listen or transfer to your phone, or use the usb cable and connect it to your computer. The pen uses a micro-usb connection, and so everything from charging to listening/transfer file is done via this micro-usb port. The package comes with everything you need for the micro-usb port.
The recording is good. I tested in a room with myself and a friend sitting across from the table (about 2m) and the recorder picked up both of our voices clearly.

- The pen also writes too, just like a regular pen. But because of the recording function, the hardware takes up about over ⅔ of the pen and so you only have about ½ of the pen for the ink. So the package comes with additional refills for your pen should you run out of ink. However, the ink is really short and if you’re using this on a regular basis for writing, you’re gonna run out of ink very soon. And I’m not sure where I can find refills for them. So use them wisely for writing.

- Overall, I was surprised by the quality of the pen, from the build to the actual voice recording quality. Great pen with voice recorder.

When I bought this recording audio pen I was hoping to find a Pen that could not only record audio but also had a decent range for picking up the audio it was recording as well as a feature that recorded when audio was in progress around the device. I was not disappointed in any of those categories. Let me also mention that when I used my laptop to pull up the recorded information it was not hard to find and I appreciated that. I would absolutely recommend this device for anyone looking to buy a recordable audio pen. Great product for the price.
