Is there still a need for a device like this in modern times and mobile phones? I still think so!
I took this to some college with me as a test to see if it was more or less complicated than just using my mobile phone to record classes. It was — more. But it's got its purpose. It's useful to have with you in a pinch. But then do you really want to carry both this and your phone at the same time? Depends on if you need to perhaps be inconspicuous. Then you can simply press the record button and keep your phone in your bag. And in that case, the greatest benefit, really, is that I am not draining the battery of my phone!However, the quality seems really decent, even if the receiver picks up a lot of sound; so much so, that it's almost too sensitive and you have to be very careful to not touch it while it's recording, or you'll get plenty of scuffing sounds. My mobile undoubtedly has algorithms to keep the audio crisp and clear, but without all the interference.It also got a pretty small gash/scratch on the screen (not shown) just from being in my bag for a few hours. I wasn't expecting gorilla glass for a screen, but I guess I expected it to outlast a day of general use. I really like that there's both a 3.5mm listening jack but also a microphone jack for lavalier if you wanted — this is something I didn't expect, but was glad for the flexibility.The device can also upload and play mp3s to it. But honestly, with such intuitive mobile apps for music these days, again, I can't really appreciate using this, for more than general listening of your recordings. The interface is generally so cumbersome I feel like this device might have come straight out of the early 2000's if it were not for the USB-C charging/data port.This is one of those kinds of devices a beginner could use for interviews or general sound capture. It would be nice if there was a screw mount built into the bottom, so I could put it on a tripod. But it's just a thought, and there are plenty of ways to use this recorderer discreetly — I just don't think it's an everyday use sort of tool.After saying all this, I still really like it's form factor and it gives me a sense of "hands-on" nostalgia, and while requiring me to thumb through the menu system may seem archaic, I have no doubt this device will work exactly as intended, and I can count on it.

I am going for a run with my secretary.
My hobby is running ultra-marathons, and I spend hours every week training. Time outside is a perfect time to think, plan my week, chew on ideas for scripts and try to sort out glaring plot holes.
I've come up with some great ideas and forgotten most of them by the time I finish my run. (It's a Boomer thing.) Enter the HIFI WALKER. This lightweight digital recorder lets me capture my thoughts and ideas and have a list to sort through when I return.
The recorder is about the size of an energy gel and weighs a scant 79 grams.
The HiFi Walker is a little gem of a recorder. It is all metal construction, with a color menu screen and buttons that are easily worked even while wearing mittens. There are 64 gigs of internal memory- no fumbling with SD cards- more than storage for any user. There are many settings to set up recording to what is most beneficial to your needs. The recorder also has a dedicated microphone in port.
You will want to use some of that storage for music, as the HIFI WALKER also works as a digital audio player (DAC). While Apple Music format AAC is not supported, you can load and play MP3 WMA, WAV, APE and FLAC. I use FLAC as the player supports up to 16/48, sufficient for outdoor listening. I've had issues playing large FLAC files on some DAPs, but this unit loaded and played my 190meg file of a 32-minute version of “Dark Star” from The Grateful Dead without a hiccup. (There's nothing like a four-hour-long Dead show from the ‘70s when you are pounding out the miles.)
The recorder has a USB port for charging and mounting on my MacBook. The recorder is recognized instantly without a driver; adding music is simple drag and drop. I wish my pricey Fiio DAP worked this well.
The recorder is packaged in a nice box, and the included instruction manual is logical and helpful.
There are cheaper recorders, but this recorder's sturdy construction and features make it well worth the money.
The only downside? After reviewing all my "brilliant" ideas from my run, I realize most are not as brilliant as I thought! :-)
