Please make sure that the red, yellow and black wires are properly connected so that the hardwire kit can work.
Q1: Why can't the dash cam be activated by inserting the red line(ACC) alone?
Answer: The red line(ACC) is a signal line, and the yellow line(BAT) is the power line. When you plug in the yellow line(BAT), it can boot directly. However, if only the connected yellow line(BAT), the car's battery will be damaged.
Q2: Why do I need the red line(ACC)?
Answer: The red line(ACC) is a signal line. When the yellow line(BAT) is connected to the battery for parking monitoring or motion detection, if the battery voltage is lower than 11.7V, the driving recorder will automatically shut down. If you don't connect the red line(ACC), it can't detect the signal that you have switched on your car, the hard wire kit chipset will stop outputting current, and the driving recorder will not be able to start. Therefore, the red line(ACC) is for signal detection, and it must be connected in the car together with the horizontal yellow line(BAT) and the black line(GND).

There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Please try again later.
Checked all connections with multimeter before plugging into dashcam, all was good.
Dashcam would not turn off when keys removed. The controller doesn’t work to remove 12Vdc from Bat+ line when ACC power is removed. The ACC part of the unit is faulty. Tried using just the ACC line connected with Bat+ removed, NOTHING! Camera wouldn’t even turn on.
End fix, didn’t bother using ACC line, just hooked up the Bat+ line to an Accessory spot in the fuse panel. Will suffice for only coming on while keys are in, but now I have to settle for parking or motion not working.
*Update - was refunded purchase due to issue. Good customer service. Would deal with seller again.
CONS: There is absolutely no help for novice DIYers. Instructional video will leave you even more confused.
I bought a cheap dash cam but really had using the 12V adapter as a power source. For one, it's cumbersome and wires are all over the place. Secondly, it takes up a valuable auxiliary port that can be used to charge your phone. Hiring someone to install your dash cam, and use your own equipment and NOT providing hardware for you can costs over a hundred dollars! Wow, I understand it takes some expertise to wire electrical but as a handy guy, I felt like I could do it on my own.
The kit comes with everything you need: all essential wires, various fuses, pry tool, velcro ties, adhesive wire mounts and even a small flat head screw driver to pry out the fuses. When installed everything seem to work fine with no issues.
The main issue is this product is good for installers or people who have a strong skills in troubleshooting and installation. The instruction video offered is terrible and in fact actually confuses me even more. It shows a person powering up a dash cam with alligator clips from some random source. Like it's more "proof of concept" that it actually works, rather than being anything helpful.
There's no guide or even material list to help you understand what each component is. I didn't even the plastic tool was a pry tool to help wedge open sections of your car.
The good thing is there are plenty of guides on YouTube and resources available to help you identify the fuses in your specific car. This is where some basic knowledge on electrical and handyman DIY troubleshooting skills come in play.
The fuses need to be installed the proper direction of positive and negative alignment to work which will require a voltage test/multi-meter. Understanding which fuses are essential and should not be tampered with and which ones you can tap into is important. I tapped into power windows and locks and I understand the risks doing so.
The unit itself has a voltage cut off protection, which measures the car battery and cuts off power draw if it gets below 11.7V so it doesn't kill your battery, which is essential in protecting your car. There are more expensive models that allow you to select the voltage cut off, and even allow you to set time intervals giving you the option to cut off after 12 hours or 24 hours. These are really nice features, but for me those kits are far too expensive.
Overall, for what this costs it far exceeds the value just as a basic necessity to get a hardwired parking kit for your dash cam. It doesn't necessarily have nice features like variable voltage or timed cut off, and when it comes to electrical makes me a bit nervous of these lower end kits, but it still works and gets the job done.
It comes with everything to need to get started and all different types of fuses which is great.
