Setup is simple. Make sure they're charged fully then plug in the receiver to your lightning connector on the bottom of your iPhone. Hold the power button on the back of either, or both, mics to turn on. They will automatically connect to the receiver after a couple moments. The receiver has two indicators, one for each mic, which display solid when connected. When not connected they flash. Each mic has 4 light up icons. A charging indicator, noise reduction, mute and connection status. Toggling reverb is a triple click of the power button, toggling mute is a double click, toggling noise reduction is a single click.
About the mic functions.
In testing, I didn't find any difference between the noise reduction settings, either on or off. I was in a quiet location so it may have simply less noticeable.
The reverb function seems to be a waste as I would describe it as echo. It's sort of useless to turn on.
Mute function works perfectly.
One note, a click of the power button transmits through the mic and is easily picked up on your recordings, so you need to be sure to adjust settings when you're not recording. Though I would assume that any adjustments would be set before you began recording and not changed once you begin.
Charging the mics is straight forward. Just plug the included USB-A to USB-C connector into the mic and the charging indicator lights up red while active. The light goes out when your charge is complete.
Recording quality is decent. I tested single mic, and also both mics connected simultaneously and there was absolutely no issues with cross-talk or interference from one mic to the other. Both transmitted audio easily and without issue. Audio was clear, with little to no noticeable hiss. (though I simply listened to the recordings on my iPhone, not in an editing suite! You're mileage may vary.
The mics are light weight, and have a small lapel clip that slides in place on the back, they can also be rotated through the four compass points to set the mic to a chosen orientation.
The receiver is powered by your phone and as a nice addition, it includes a pass-through lightning connector on the right side which allows you to connect power to your phone while the receiver is plugged in and using the phones lightning connector.
I tested range to about 30 feet and didn't get any drop-out of audio signals. Sound quality was better than recording directly on my phone.
Verdict.
This is a decent little kit, easy to setup, with light weight mics, that pick up audio well though there is some pickup of ambient sounds. Overall very usable. Obviously not professional level but very usable none-the-less. Worthy of consideration if you're looking for a simple, reasonably priced kit. (at the time of this review)
