I recently switched to Public Mobile using their Triple Punch SIM Card and couldn't be happier. The multi-format SIM card fits any phone and is easy to install with the included ejector tool. Public Mobile's 5G network is reliable and fast, significantly improving my connectivity. Their variety of affordable plans caters to different needs, and the $9.99 SIM card is a great deal. The user-friendly app makes account management and activation simple. With competitive pricing and excellent service, Public Mobile is a fantastic choice for anyone considering a new carrier.
Public Mobile (PM) offers attractive plans at an affordable price point, and I'm real glad I was able to go with them, especially during their Black Friday promo period.
As a brand-new customer, I found their online process easy, hassle-free, and self-explanatory. You can start on the PC, then move to the app to activate and complete the process, or go with the app from start to finish. The whole process took me about 10 minutes.
Their plans are transparent in what you get, and I actually don't mind that they had to cut some corners (e.g. no "active" customer service, no Wi-Fi calling, etc.) in order to offer up such low prices. While there are no guarantees that a price will 'freeze', they've been historically good in that regard.
eSIM is nice today in that it's quick if you have a compatible smartphone, but if you want to switch phones for any reason down the road, you'll have to pay for another eSIM. So for the convenience of swapping, I picked the physical SIM, and went with this ($9.99 at the time of this review). There is another "version" of the SIM card also offered by PM at half the price on Amazon ($4.99 at the time of this review). The only difference is different graphics with THIS version being the newer one. Both will recognize and work with 5G, and it's a lot better than waiting a week or so for PM to actually send out a SIM, so feel free to go with the cheaper version.
As far as the reception goes, it's been great. I've not had any issues so far, and even with self-serve plan changes, it goes into effect almost immediately. As they are owned by TELUS, they are using the TELUS network, meaning their coverage is the same. If there are no TELUS towers nearby, then Bell towers are used as they have agreements across the country. 5G is advertised up to 250 Mbps, and I was able to experience 246 Mbps which was amazing. Even if you don't have a 5G-compatible smartphone, your 4G LTE network will receive the benefits of 5G throughput meaning you will experience the same speed and latency benefits (as long as you go with a 5G plan).
Lastly, PM has a rewards system that gives back 5% for each monthly bill you pay (before taxes). 1 PM Points = $1 in value, and at every 15 point increments, you are able to redeem it for $15 bill credit, OR for other add-on packages you may want. You are able to earn more as you stay with them (10 pts/12 months), refer, and/or contribute to their community forums.
Overall, PM is a great alternative to the big telecom giants in Canada as it offers cheap, transparent, AND versatile plans with a streamlined and simple self-setup. It's not perfect in some regards as no customer service phone lines/live chats may not be great for some, but for anyone who like to get things done by themselves, this will treat you nicely.

Used to be with a different company. Switched to public mobile for an inexpensive plan. Porting out was easy and quick. Plan is cheap compared to other providers. Cell reception is good, never had a dead spot (so far).
The only downside is no phone number to call for support. There is a forum where you can ask questions/inquiries. But I never experienced any issues (so far).
If you’re looking for a practical and inexpensive option, you can try Public Mobile. If you want a $10 bill credit, you can use my referral code P3KE3X. Thank you.
