My first cell phone ever, and I signed up for a prepaid, no contract, paying $40/mth for 5GB data, unlimited Canada wide talk, unlimited international text, voicemail and call display and am getting great speeds. I was streaming Spotify when I ran this test and it only shows 2 bars. I assume it would be faster with the full bars and if I stopped the streaming. I was looking at the other carriers to decide who to go with and then found Public Mobile. I am glad I found them. If you want you can make use of referrals bonuses and contribute to their community support and the longer you stay with them you also pay less. You can actually work your way to $0 ZERO per month for your cell bill. The setup was so easy and I am happy with the number I got. You can also port your old number (cell or landline) to them. If you want a referral code to use to get $10 added to your account and can be used to your next bill here is mine: 05QEXNUpdate September 1, 2019: Apparently they found me out! Haha! I just tested my speed today and it is now officially 3G. Bummer! It was good while it lasted. But I'm not complaining. I am getting what I signed up for and I like it!

I needed to up date my parents Galaxy 8 phones.. So I found a great pair of big screen, water, shock proof. All the bells and whistles type phones on Amazon. They liked them so I ordered.. that done I asked if they were using a good provider service. Well I find out there paying 3 times more then they should be with data plans they don't need or would ever use. I told them my last months cell bill with Public Mobile. They were shocked.. it was like 26 dollars i think. Ive been with P Mobile since it started.. 10 years or close, everytime someone signs up with your referral code your monthly bill is credited every month going forward for as long as your with them.. so refer enough people and your basically paying peanuts for exceptional plans. I set my parents up with a 40 dollar plan with unlimited Canada wide talk and text includes picture text international text and 15 gigs of data. Set up on recurring payment monthly on the day activated the exact amount everytime. No surprise growing totals always the same bill unless you decide to go online and change the plan.. So they have brand new phones they own out right.. and each a plan under 100 bucks a month for the 2 of them. Its very good service to.. in 10 years I've never been with out reception. I ordered the new simcards for 6 dollars and free prime delivery. Oh my parents even were able to keep the same phone #'s. I haven't found anything even close to as good as this!

Pubic mobile is a Telus company so you get the same LTE cell signal you would with telus or Bell as they share cell towers.

The data is 3G speed on their cheaper plans which are still very good, about 3MB per second download and the cell signal for talking is LTE.

Public mobile now offers 4G data plans with speeds up to 100mb download and 10mb upload speed, and they offer 5G plans as well 250 mb download speed etc. If you need a referral code for your discount when you sign up with them use 56E2E8.

It's really easy setting up and transferring your phone number over to them online. everything is done online and is pretty straightforward.

Make sure you sign up with your credit card for your monthly payments to get $2 off each month, and if you use this code 56E2E8 you will get a $10 credit towards your next month's bill. Usually around Christmas time every year they offer free bonuses like data and long distance minutes that you add to your account. Hope that helps take care.

I have been using it for almost a month. So far so good.
I ported my Rogers number and it took three hours to complete everything, that was mush faster than I expected! The signal is slightly better than Rogers in my region (Toronto downtown). The internet is still fast. My plan with Rogers was $25 including 150min talk and a few messages, no data and I found out PM $15 plan is better and cheaper. I can get unlimited texts, 100min talk and 150MB, incoming calls is unlimited while Rogers counts that for me! Why didn’t I know PM earlier and save my money...
The only downside I could complain about is their website is a little bit slow especially when you try to login to the account, and sometimes you can find 5MB ghost data usage in the account history but that will disappear when the system automatically corrects itself.

So happy I switched from "cheap" $45 dollar plans to this one. I got the $25/month plan but pay $22 with discounts etc. Even transferred my old number over, no problem. No chance of accidentally going over my data (they notify you and you have to go online to buy more) and I barely notice a difference because of the 3G speeds. I get about 1GB a month but have only been over once when traveling. I've been on it a year and no regrets. I have the same coverage as I did with Rogers and wayyyy better than Freedom (who'd restrict data if I left a major city).

Just make sure to check how much data you normally use before deciding on a plan. Although you can pretty easily switch if you find you're reaching your max.
