It’s just over 4 inches in length. My hands are relatively tiny but it’s easy to slip the adjustable band on. The velcro holds on tightly. Fortunately I haven’t had to ever use it; it’s really good to have if you’re worried about running into coyotes or dogs. Please note that it’s not nearly strong enough for a bear - if you go camping then buy a special spray for just that. This is a very small bottle.The safety lock is pretty sturdy and foolproof. The design is really good because you can easily unlock it. Just a tip - you’ll have to press it down from the middle (exactly where it reads “press”), not the pointy edge in case you need to spray.

I walk/hike a lot and have come across quite a few aggressive off-leash dogs in the past. I've never had to use spray, but it makes me feel better having it (especially when my young son is with me).

The can is very compact but if you have big hands, the strap is way too short. I prefer to carry it in my pocket with a piece of electrical tape across the top to prevent an accidental discharge.

It feels as solid and well made as it looks. The elastic strap is a bit small, I can adjust its length to make it larger, but then that exposes the hooks portion of the velcro strap which stags sometimes in my clothing, so I keep the strap smaller.

I didn't try it on any animal, so I don't know how effective it is, but I did try it once in open air to see what to expect. The trigger is very easy to twist and then press, and it throws a surprisingly strong tight red stream quite far away, I'd guess easily a good 10+ feet away or more. Because the stream is narrow it's obvious that I'd need to aim precisely to hit the animal's nose and eyes, but the fact that it comes out as a strong darkish red stream also makes targeting pretty easy, I'd probably just move it around a bit to hit the animal straight. The can doesn't contain much liquid though, that's what makes it handy, so with the amount that came out with just a short press as I did in my test, I'd probably empty the bottle or get close to empty in real life to get rid of whatever animal I'm trying to deter. However, I don't doubt I'd have enough to hit the target quite well.

As far as the deterrent part of the spray is concerned, I didn't test that and can't vouch for its effectiveness. If the color of the stream is an indication though, that stream looks like it's pure non-diluted cayenne pepper, and makes me think that it would easily stop an attacking animal dead it its tracks.

It's very small and compact so I'm going to buy a bunch for my little sister's to carry for self protection purposes, but for me I enjoy feeling safe on a nice hike, if your going deep into the woods I suggest something bigger and stronger, I personally worry more about Rouge dogs or some coyotes!
