How to use Polident for Retainer Cleanser Tablets

Step 1

Drop one Polident for Retainer Cleanser Tablet into enough very warm (not hot) water to cover your oral appliance.

Step 2

Soak for 3-5 minutes. For best results, gently brush your oral appliance with cleanser solution using a soft brush. Discard remaining solution immediately after use.

Step 3

Rinse appliance thoroughly with running water.

I bought these since my mouthguard was looking so crusty and yellow even though I brush it daily with dish soap. I bought an ultrasonic cleaning device a few months ago and saw a small improvement but the device died after less than a month so I was looking for other options. I looked up x3 brands of these tablets and this was by far the cheapest - I wasn't sure the more expensive brands were worth it since all x3 brands were getting mixed reviews. I figured, I'll just try the cheapest brand for now and see if it makes any difference.I can't say it removed ALL of the staining as my mouthguard is still clearly a gross yellow colour. But is has really improved and feels fresher. It also got rid of the darker staining in some crevices which I am very pleased about. In terms of the colour, I think the tablet itself makes the solution blue, which mildly counteracts the yellow colour.I don't see my mouthguard improving much more than this, but I'm completely satisfied knowing that it keeps is fresh and removes the darker areas that I was worried about! When I get a new mouthguard in the future, I think it won't get as stained if I use this product from the get go.

We have a number of retainer wearers in the household. We've always just cleaned our retainers with a toothbrush. The tablets actually make the retainers look cleaner and also feel cleaner in the mouth. We will definitely keep using them. These ones indicate that they are made specifically for retainers, so I hope that over time they don't damage or degrade the plastic. So far though, we are really happy with the performance of the tablets.

I've been using this product for years for my Invisalign and now my clear plastic retainer. It's super quick and easy to use. You just pop your tray into a glass (or if you have a bath container for it) with some warm water and toss the tablet in and it will fizz up and clean your tray! Remember to always rinse it off after!

It leaves no taste or scent on my tray, but the tablet itself is mint scented. It 100% cleans your plastic trays without scuffing it or ruining the transparency of it. I love that each tablet is individually wrapped so it's easy to toss into my bag when I'm travelling and I don't need to worry.

I use these once a week on my dentist made nightguard. I thoroughly brush my nightguard morning and night with just water. You get a lot of cleaning tablets for the price you pay and the use is pretty simple, you let your nightguard soak in warm water, drop tablet in>Let it soak for 15 minutes>Brush with solution>Rinse for one minute under luke warm water. Even when doing all the cleaning process with tablets and my regular cleaning, nothing will ever beat the cleaning contraptions the dentist offices use. My nightguard still had calcium buildup in it after using all the cleaning tablets and brushing which only the dental office could remove.. I would also highly recommend taking your nightguard into the dentist and having it professionally cleaned if you have the problem I had with calcium/tartar buildup on the guard.

Works really well - just 10 minutes in warm water and then scrub clean and rinse. No weird taste or smell, just a refreshing minty taste. I’ve tried some others but have gone back to the Polident version as I find the quality is better.
