In 1969, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, along with their team at NASA were on a mission… to the moon. And they took our headsets with them. That was more than 50 years ago, and since then we have continued to enable seamless work from anywhere.

The system also enables you to conference in up to three additional headsets for easier collaboration. The headset comes equipped with DECT 6.0 technology that allows you to talk hands free up to 350 feet away from the base.
Engineered for Outstanding Sound Quality
In addition to DECT technology, the CS540 offers wideband audio for clearer phone conversations. The headset's noise-canceling microphone filters out background noise and enhanced Digital Signal Processing (DSP) makes voices sound more clear and natural.

I bought a CS540 to replace my aging CS70NC that was failing fast. I looked into replacing the battery, and maybe the crumbling earpiece, but the cost was more than I wanted to spend to rehabilitate old stuff. I had been very satisfied with my old Plantronics unit and was glad to see that the company was providing an improved model. The CS540 base unit is smaller, has more visible indicator lights, improved switches, and is compatible with the handset lifter I already owned. So I ordered it from Amazon and two days later was again enjoying clear sound and amazing range. I work from home and often roam during phone conferences (more coffee, fetch files, etc.). My old Plantronics headset let me get a few rooms away before losing the signal, but the new CS540 lets me get to every room in my 2 story house with no noticeable loss of signal.
The CS540 can be used over-the-ear or over-the-head, but I find the lightweight earpiece to work very well resting on my ear. The mic boom is slightly adjustable toward my mouth, and very adjustable up and down. So finding a comfortable position is easier than with the older model. It's easy to forget that I am wearing it.
The CS540 sound quality adjustment switches are much easier to understand and use than the older model. A call to the Plantronics 1-800 number is a quick way to get the settings correct, followed by a call to someone willing to answer your questions about "how does this sound?" In my case the switches required only minimal adjustment from the factory settings. The person I called said she could not tell I was speaking over a headset. And I could hear her as if I were listening on the phone's regular handset. The CS540 is a very well made device.
My only minor complaint is the lack of printed instruction manual. The unit comes with a multi-language foldout that is adequate for the initial connection to a desk phone, but it doesn't clearly explain other features such as indicator lights, headband attachment, advanced setup switches, etc. A more complete manual is available online, but I saw what seems to be a few errors related to the advanced switches (for wide-narrow band radio settings, and headset pairing). Despite the errors, I was able to figure it out well enough such that I spent no more than 10 minutes from the time I opened the box to when I was all done with installation and setup.
If you spend a lot of time on conference calls I can recommend the CS540 as well worth the extra cost. I've used many other headsets, both wired and wireless, and also Bluetooth, and none of them come close to the quality of Plantronics products.
Also: don't skip the automatic handset lifter. It's a clunky looking gadget but it works very well.

Here are the things I like about them:
1) These are light-weight & comfortable. Since I often wear mine for 10-12 hours a day, this is very important.
2) The sound quality is excellent. It really is like talking directly on a wired headset.
3) One major problem I've had with Plantronics headsets in the past is that they aren't very good with eliminating wind noise. Fortunately, these perform very well in this area. I can talk just fine under a ceiling fan or walking outside by the shop with no issues.
4) Having an effective wireless headset really frees me up to get stuff done while on the phone all day.
5) The range is very good. We can walk all over a 3000 square foot space without issues. It does reach the edge of its range when we go out to the outdoor shop; but, that should probably be expected.
Even though I love this headset overall, there are a few issues:
1) By default, the headsets come with a cable that hooks up just fine with Polycom phones - but they don't support the answer/hang-up button on the headset. That basically means you have to be by the phone to either answer or hang up from a call. The best way we found to resolve this is to use the Plantronics 38439-11 EHS Cable , which is a great addition to this phone. The downside is that it's kind of expensive for just a cable...
2) There are multiple people working in a small space, and I'm regretting that everyone else has so much mobility. I mean, come on! It's OK for me to pace all over the office, but not everyone else. :)
Overall, I would highly recommend this headset to anyone who is using an office phone and doesn't want to be tied down to their desk all day - especially if you spend a lot of time on the phone.

One of the standout features of the CS540 headset is its wireless functionality. By utilizing DECT technology, it provides a reliable and clear connection, allowing users to move freely within the specified range without the limitations of cords and cables. The wireless range ensures that you can stay connected to your communication device while attending to other tasks, enhancing productivity and convenience.
The headset's lightweight and comfortable design make it suitable for extended periods of use. It sits comfortably on the ear, and the adjustable headband ensures a secure fit for most users. The mono (single ear) convertible design allows for flexibility in wearing styles, accommodating personal preferences and needs. The headset is also equipped with noise-canceling technology, which helps reduce background noise for clearer conversations.
In terms of audio quality, the CS540 provides decent sound clarity for most communication purposes. The voice quality is generally clear, enabling effective conversations without significant distortion or static. However, some users may find that the audio could be improved further, especially in noisy environments where background noise can interfere with communication clarity.
The battery life of the CS540 is satisfactory, allowing for several hours of continuous use before requiring a recharge. The included charging base makes it convenient to dock the headset when not in use, ensuring it's always ready for the next conversation. However, some users may find that the battery life could be extended for even longer periods of uninterrupted use, particularly for those who heavily rely on the headset throughout the day.
While the CS540 offers commendable functionality and comfort, there are a few areas that could benefit from improvement. One area is the range of the wireless connection. While it provides adequate coverage for most office settings, some users may find that the range could be expanded to accommodate larger workspaces or environments with obstacles that may interfere with the signal.
Additionally, the overall build quality of the CS540 headset could be more robust. Some users have reported issues with the durability of certain components, such as the headband or the microphone boom. Strengthening these parts to withstand regular use and potential wear and tear would enhance the longevity and reliability of the headset.
In conclusion, the Plantronics CS540 Wireless DECT Headset offers a wireless communication solution with its lightweight design, convertible wearing styles, and decent audio quality. It provides flexibility and convenience for users who value mobility in their work environments. However, there are areas where improvements could be made, such as enhancing the wireless range, extending battery life, and improving the overall durability of the headset. If you prioritize wireless communication and value a comfortable fit, the CS540 is worth considering, but it may be worth exploring other options if you require advanced audio features or extended battery life.

Wrap around headband was not included in bundle. Came with three extra plastic ear clips (these are super cheap and super thin. Will not last). Over head headband is nice and light weight but on a big head like mine it feels like it’s going to slide off all day long. Trying to get use to the feeling.
See pictures: I have a shoretel phone system and it comes with a headset button so I did not need a handset lifter - I just answer the phone by pressing the headphone button. Also my desk phone comes with a separate jack so I didn’t need to plug it into the adapter jack.
Still working on getting the perfect sound quality out of it but that might take me a little longer to do. There are three adjustment buttons on the bottom of the receiver/charging station.(sorry I don’t think to take a picture of that). So far no caller has complained about the sound. I don’t sound like I’m in a tunnel. Some calls have a soft sound and I have to try to turn the volume up in my end. But still working on getting that perfect setting.
So this isn’t the top end of headsets but it’s a good option at the mid-price level and I think most people are going to like it.
