Awesome reel for the price!
4 Stars
Awesome reel for the price!
I own 3 different Piscifun reel models and love them all. The Flame is a great reel in slower deeper water. Excellent drag system and can cast a mile. Recommend for lake fishing or dropping a line to the bottom, the gear ratio can’t quite keep up in fast current. Recommend!

This is my second reel from Piscifun. I bought this reel for my trout setup after purchasing the Carbon X and I was blown away at the quality of the Caron X reel, so why not try the $30 one.
-Packaging is still fairly good, obviously not as many bells and whistles come with the reel as the higher end models. (Decals, bag etc) But it still had the nice box, instructions and extra drag washers. Just the essentials.
-The 2000 series reel is petite, light and surprisingly visually striking for the $30 price tag. The handle feels great, not a very bulky reel, excellent for trout, smallies etc.
-The bearings are super smooth, I will say the Carbon X is a better spinning reel all around, at 4x's the price that's to be expected, with a slightly more noticeable smoothness to the bearings. but overall the retrieve is still buttery smooth, far superior to any "cheap" reel I have ever tried of the same price point +/- $30.
As well, the gears have no lash at all and everything is very tight.
- Casting, it casts excellent with no real notable difference to the Carbon.

Overall, if you just want a good gift idea that they will be pleased with, a great little budget reel, a new brand of reels to try, or even a long term reel ,this is an incredible price for a reel that is the same quality as a $65 reel, easily. Piscifun makes some of the nicest quality reels , but at a fraction of the price, YouTube reviews prove it!

I live in Edmonton and fish the North Saskatchewan River (NSR) quite frequently. To fish the NSR means lots of exposure to mud, dust, sand and the elements. Usually, I go with products that are sealed, or ocean rated as it helps keep the gunk out.

Recently had my go to combo stolen (Penn Pursuit) and was looking for a cheap interim replacement, as on a budget right now. Bought this reel and used it over the past week here are my thoughts:
Overall, good value for the money.
PROS:
Cost
Ultra smooth casting - paired with a Berkley Lightning Rod, super loooong casts
Light weight - moulded plastic frame (Trade off on durability?)
Good drag - handled the bigger fish easily
Oversize Bail
Machined spool for braided line

CONS:
The x vents on the spool. When I used it last, it was a windy day, kicking up dust and sand etc. Noticed the reel was making a funny noise during the end. I cleaned it after and some sand and gotten under the spool, likely through the "X" vents. As it doesn't have sealed bearings, not sure how this will impact long term use.
Plastic parts, frame etc: I expected this and it's a trade off on the weight aspect. But, I could see how it could be an issue if the stem or casing takes an impact etc..

Other Considerations:
1. Wind knots - seem to get an unusual amount of wind knots with the braided line, not sure why or how. This could be the line I'm using (I switched to a 10 pound braid to keep things light), but it seemed to happen more frequently, which was odd.
2. Flashy looking...if looks mattered, it would get a 10 / 10

Recommendations:

It's a good buy at less than $35 and honestly, you really can't go wrong. Would be great for boat use on the lake, kids or folks just learning how to fish. I would like to get a higher end Piscifun that's sealed to see how it would compare with my other reels in that category (PENN - sealed components). Problem is the price point on Piscifun's higher end reels. Comparatively speaking, their sealed reels cost more than a PENN Pursuit or Fierce, so need to do some more research to see if it's viable. Overall, I'd give this reel and 8.8 / 10.

At this point and I’ve got some high-end fishing rod and reel, combos for ice and for fresh and I’m not sure how piscifun is doing this great quality reels for unbelievable prices. I was not expecting this from a $25 reel. I was just looking to add a reel to my Jawjacker rod and I think I’m going to swap it out for my st Croix reel for this one. Very nice, I originally got sucked in because my buddy had an in-line carbon ice and I bought one because I liked his so much and now I’ve purchased my second reel within 2 weeks and I’m quickly becoming a fan.

I bought the size 1000 for ice fishing. It held up pretty well in some really cold weather, it has lots of line space, and is very smooth. The only problem I see is that the line jumps off the spool alot more than any of my other reels. Overall it is good for the price.

Seems to actually be a quality reel, very smooth and quite, instant anti reverse and a good drag system. The reel size however is small, I bought the 1000 series, it’s closer to a 500.

I’ll cut straight to the chase, I’ve used this reel a few times a week for a couple of months now and it’s fine for what I paid for it, but I don’t think I’d recommend it.

Standout pros for this reel are it’s affordability and it’s remarkably light weight. It’s certainly not a high quality product but I was expecting much worse for the price; it’s made cheaply but not poorly. I’ve had to oil it once because it started grinding and making loud noises, but the oil got it working smoothly again.

The one MAJOR CON, and a deal-breaker for me, is that the line does not lay well on the spool, it regularly overlaps and twists my line into extremely frustrating knots. I could forgive almost any other issues for such an affordable feel, but this has cost me more in replacing line than I saved by foregoing a more competent reel.

I’ve seen many reviews here mention that the bail knocks on people’s fingers when they reel in line. I’ve experienced this but it hasn’t been a major issue for me. I could see how, if your rod grip was directly over top of the bail, that this might be a problem, but for me it is more of a minor annoyance than a real issue.

In closing, this reel is fine for the money, but I don’t recommend using it for much more than an emergency backup, since it’ll cost you more in replacing hopelessly twisted line than you’ll save by choosing this over a slightly more expensive competitor.

The price I paid I wasn't expecting a whole lot of reel for my money but what I got was a whole lot of reel .
It feels really good in hand , very well balanced and smooth rolling.
The drag was surprisingly smooth as well . I truly thought it'd be a jittery mess but when reeling in my catches the drag was consistently smooth and easy to adjust .
Another thing I like is ,since I'm using it for lighter lures and shorter casts I like that it doesn't hold a crapton of line . I use 10# braid and I never get near the end of the spool but I also don't have a whole lot to worry about getting line twist in either .
I already enjoy baitcasters from this brand so I was confident I'd get a good bang for buck but not this good .
I cannot speak for larger sizes as this one fit my need exactly and for stronger fishing I'll still be using baitcasters so I'm not going to hazard a guess as to whether they are as good or not .
If you're looking for a smaller reel that acts like those costing lots more take a good look at this model .
