There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Please try again later.
needed something that gave him
freedom but kept him in so i tried this…
instalation is easy but it will take you a good saturday :) but well worth the work.
dog got used to it after only two tries of getting through. never tried again
correction levels are easy to use and i tried them on myself before using on dog and its is as humane as you could imagine.
had it for a year now and no repairs neede yet even as we have lots of snow and cold weather here in canada.
good buy
We followed all the instructions very carefully, moved an outlet to allow the box to be in a good location & moved appliances to be far from the box.
The wire is still totally inconsistent and our dogs are frequently running out without any beep or shock.
We wished that this would work so we would not need to impede the view from our yard, but this just isn’t going to work. There’s no point in having this because we can’t even let our dogs out anyway.
If your dog is even just a bit curious or shows a bit of prey drive, save your money. This fence is highly unlikely to work :(
My dog runs free and stays within the area designated with the fencing
You have to watch for it to go on sale as it can be pricy to give your dog enough area to run free.
I had to add extra wiring to give my dog more room and that added to the expense.

Installing it wasn't too bad, although none of the given "blue-prints" mentioned what layout to use if the fence is just your backyard and you use the backdoor to let them in and out. The easiest way we figured out was running the fence up the side of the house and above the backdoor so she didn't get shocked using the back door.
She already knew we didn't want her jumping the fence prior to installing this, and so we put the collar on her on the just the basic 'training' setting and she seemed to get it, but still willing to try to jump. So in frustration and impatience, I turned the collar up to the lowest shock setting and she VERY quickly figured out that she couldn't go within a foot or so of the fence. We haven't had any issues since.
We also had to extend the fence with some extra cord to include our new greenhouse that she broke into and dug up all the plants. That was pretty easy to do also, we just had to go buy some new grease caps and twist about 15 feet of cord together, but she's able to cross back and forth over the twisted part while staying away.
All in all, this is a wonderful product especially when she can see the physical fence and know that's the barrier and I wish we'd gotten it much sooner.

Update: it’s been 4 years and it still works amazingly!! I have added other sections of wire over the years to block off new landscaping to keep the dogs from marking it or digging etc. It is still going great no problems at all. We love it! (In the second picture our black giant schnauzer wants to get our cat that’s lounging in the rose bushes but he knows he will get shocked so he doesn’t go any further.
Original Review:
Here is my situation ... I was using the petsafe WIRELESS fence system for almost 2 years with my two dogs (mini schnauzer and giant schnauzer) and it was working for them wonderfully. However, I began to realize it would be better if I could control more specific areas they were allowed to go in (that system just does a circle). For example, they were messing up my mulch in my flower bed and pooping right in my driveway where we park our cars (always nice when people would come over and have to dodge giant piles of doo) So I called petsafe and they assured me the shock levels would be the same as the wireless so I should not need a "stubborn dog" system. I was able to run approximately 850' of wire (I bought another 500' spool additional to the one that comes with this set) in a matter of a few hours really. I'm a 33 year old woman and I had my 12 year old son help. After laying it all out in our desired pattern, he used the shovel to just lift up small sections of the sod and I was on my hands and knees tucking it under. We did 200' one evening and the knocked the rest out in a couple hours the next afternoon. It was pretty easy depending on the type of soil. I would recommend mowing before installing (I did not and wished I would have). My dogs have picked up on their new boundaries very quickly and I'm very pleased so far. My friend warned me to make sure I get it all buried right away because breaks in the rope can happen very easily if just left out (kids trip over it, car, tractor, mower runs it over etc). With this system I was actually able to give my dogs more area to roam and section off areas I didn't want them in so it's a win-win situation. Plus this system (even with my extra spool and extra collar) was cheaper than the wireless one. Wish I would have done this in the first place.
