The only issue I find with this SSD Drive is that the USB cable it came with is very short, only 7.5 inches long. So the Drive hangs, unless you are only using it with a laptop and have a flat surface for both. Also it is not easy to find a USB cable that is compatible with the Drive. Regular Type C phone cables will not work. This is why I gave it a 4 Star, otherwise it would have been a 5 Star all the way.

I had the 500GB last model, 2010. Damn big change now with this item, SSD is much faster, stable, no problem. Im having this for 3 weeks, and I moved all my old data for the last 25 years with one click. I can mention few concept for you can have a idea about what Im talking: easy, reliable, stable, fast, small, thin, fit in everywhere, easy to manage in mac and windows.

I wanted a small backup drive for my MacBook Pro. This was an excellent option and I'm really happy with it. I like that you can password protect the contents, and the SD drive is really quick. It also doesn't require a separate power source, which is nice. It does get hot while the backup is running, so don't leave it on a bed or something, but that's generally good advice with computing devices anytime.

UPDATE Dec 2021: WD has responded and successfully registered the drive for me for warranty. Updated rating.

Pros: The drive is very compact and lightweight comes with a short cable as well as a USB-C to USB-A adapter as others have mentioned. As long as your computer also has matching USB 3.1 or 3.2 or thunderbolt port transferring is very fast. The drive does get hot but not scalding, and I assume that's the heat sink dissipating the heat through the drive surface. One side of the drive is metal the other side is plastic.

Cons: As majority of the negative points mentioned in many reviews, there is inability to register this product for the warranty. I checked the local electronics big box store selling the same WD SSD drive, and the S/N also cannot be registered on WD's website when I had a staff test. Unknown why WD indicates 5 year warranty (one reason why I purchased this) when it cannot be done. I have reached out to WD CS and they offered to manually register the product, but it has been weeks and I have not heard back or received any confirmation despite follow-ups. This is unexpected for a company like WD. The software suite that came preloaded on the drive (WD Discovery) also did not properly install, and I had to download the version off the WD website and reinstall everything. Not exactly turnkey ready to run.

I say "so far so good" because it's still early days, and the true test of this drive's reliability is yet to come. If anything changes, I will update this review.

I purchased this drive as a replacement for a Crucial X10 Pro 4TB Portable SSD, which initially seemed like an excellent choice given its competitive price for 4TB of storage. Unfortunately, the Crucial X10 failed after just one day of light use, which was extremely disappointing.

In contrast, this drive has proven to be reliable thus far. It looks great, has an ideal size, and I've experienced zero issues connecting and using it. The packaging was excellent, and the drive appears to be of high quality and well-constructed.

However, there are a couple of minor downsides. The included connecting cable is too short, measuring just 5 or 6 inches. I will need to purchase a longer cable, which adds to the overall cost. Additionally, this per TB this drive was priced higher than the Crucial X10. Despite this, I believe that paying a premium for reliability is worthwhile, especially for a device intended to safeguard 2TB of valuable data.

Overall, I would fully recommend this drive based on my experience so far.

I used this to transfer files between my windows PC and a TV.

About 1/10 times the connection to windows would work fine, and I can copy files normally.

The rest of the times this drive just has some sort of issue:
- makes windows explorer hang and crash
- appear to work ok, but hang and crash windows after 5 minutes of use
- copy at 20MB/s even though it's plugged into the same port as when it would copy at 100MB/s
- not be recognized by windows at all
