The Otterbox Defender has soft grippable sides and a soft slide resistant back, rather than the hard plastic. It does have a hard plastic frame inside to give the phone 'drop' protection. This is the third Defender cover like this that I have purchased, and I have been very happy with them. The easy, clip into, clip on holster is also durable and easy to use if you choose to use it. The frame stands proud of the front glass and the camera lenses, even with glass protectors on them, so that you can lay your phone down on a flat surface without it laying on the glass. The cover also does not interfere any in any way with the glass screen protectors.
