Day 1 (March 13) - Used the product for the first time, only a teaspoon and lathered it in, left it for about 5 minutes and then washed it out. After an hour, when my hair started drying, there was some dandruff in the middle of the scalp. But, there was a HUGE noticeable difference on the sides, and the flaking had reduced quite a lot!
Day 2 (March 16) - Was advised to only use it twice a week, so I waited a couple days and in these days, the flaking started to come back because it's been a few days since I had used this shampoo again. After using the same process as Day 1, the flaking had been reduced once again, and my head was not getting itchy after a day or two either, and it didn't leave me head dry right after the shower either!
March 19 - Used my other shampoo, instead of this one. Added conditioner after, and the flaking was still quite low, I thought it would resurface when I switched back, glad it didn't!
Day 3 (March 21) - Started to use less of the shampoo at this time and was making a huge difference, as my scalp was clearing up and there was no sign of flaking or dandruff, which was already a miracle.
Day 4 (March 25) - After this use is when I did not see a single spec of dandruff on my head and even after a couple days, my head is still clear. There is no itching or dryness of the scalp, which I am so thankful for.
I would highly recommend this shampoo for people looking to combat their dry scalp, flaking, and dandruff. Like I said previously, I have been struggling with dandruff for over 10 years and have tried quite a few shampoos (natural or company-owned ones) and nothing has worked as remarkably as this one. Whoever came up with the formula for this, I would like to give you a hug because you have eased one of my major insecurities.
EDIT (May 16th, 2023): Still going strong using the same bottle I purchased in March (sometimes once a week, sometimes twice a week) and haven't seen a spec of dandruff since. My head used to get itchy on the second day before I started using this shampoo and haven't had to scratch my head vigorously for a few months now. Will definitely be buying again when it runs out!!
Week 1: unlike coal tar which I find softens the scale, this hardens it. My scalp felt tight and dry which was okay for the first wash but the second one was less pleasant. All the hardened scale started to flake off so I actually worked to brush my scalp and remove it but that was just making it raw and sore so I stopped and left it alone. I just had to shake out all the flakes often. My scalp felt very sore.
Week 2: this was the worst week. I lost a bunch more hair than usual and the flaking was really bad. I started using my hairline on my forehead as my way of monitoring progress. After all the flaking at my temple in week 1, I figured it would start to slow down but it did not. I still had a lot of build up almost like it was coming back faster between each wash. At one point at work I brushed my hair between meetings and realized my scalp was bleeding.
Week 3: better. I felt like most of the worst parts of my scalp had healed and the hairfall seemed done with. However I still had build up on my scalp and a kind of constant soreness. And a lot of flakes. My temple, which again, I felt should have been done flaking, was still going strong. Mind you, my scalp never flakes. I have a lot of build up / scale but it tends to be oily not flaky. Not so now.
Week 4; that’s this week and honestly, I just have a really dry and sore scalp with lots of flaking after each wash. I don’t see it getting better. The same spot on my temple is STILL flaking. So is the rest of my head, but that’s my test case and it was far from the “worst” spot on my scalp prior to treatment. I’m just really surprised that every single day the same spot continues to have new flakes.
Verdict: it’s not for me. I really gave this a proper go because I wanted a more permanent solution to my scalp issues. I don’t think this is doing what I need it to do. I have way more dandruff while using it than I ever did without it. Coal tar fully clears it up for me for three weeks with a single use so I’ll go back to that. It’s possible that I don’t have the same issue as others (I was only diagnosed with “scalp dermatitis” which they told me means they don’t know what’s up). So maybe this fungus approach just wasn’t the right one for me.
