Product description

The ES-2 is a Film Digitizing Adapter that lets you easily convert your film images to digital. Taking advantage of the high-pixel count of the D850's 45.7 MP, the Film Digitizing Adapter lets you convert both 35mm slides and negatives to digital files. Using a lens such as the AF-S Micro NIKKOR 60mm f/2.8G ED attached to the D850, the camera's digitizing function automatically reverses the colors and stores them as JPEG images. This once time-consuming process involving a film scanner can be done much more quickly. For negative strips, use the FH-4 Strip Film Holder with the ES-2 and for slides, use the FH-5 Slide Mount Holder with the ES-2.

Expensive over the 'look-alike' knockoff, but Nikon quality. Borrowed a 60mm Nikon lens and used it once on my old Nikon D800. Copied b&w 35mm, Colour negs and a colour slide. This winter I will start converting film and slides to make prints and post on the web. Good investment but soon phones will probably replace this product.

Like so many photographers my age, I have a lot of slides, some of which are great pictures from 45 years ago. I had my favouritews burned to CD by the Kodak lab. The results I get with the ES-2 Digitizer are better, even though the Kodak CD was burned years earlier.

The Adapter is actually only most effective in capturing the whole 35MM slide image with a 60MM macro for full frame sensors, or 40MM for a cropped sensor. This isn't clear in most of the promotional material

Good piece, easy to use, solid construction. I use it to convert K64 slides to RAW files. With an adapter ring I use this Nikon gear on my Olympus digital cameras.

Very happy with this purchase. Incredibly easy to use and results are great. Good value providing you already have the proper 60mm lens.

Be very careful buying this product. Note in the description it states "For Use with AF-S Micro 60mm f/2.8 Lens" These lenses cost $720+CA and are not the kind of lens found in every photographer's bag. It is a specialized lens. I have a fair number of lenses and none came close to working even when I tried to use a toilet roll to extend the distance of the slide to match my focal length. The images end up being too small. BUT add to that is another limitation that is far from obvious and that is the camera back you are using makes a difference to the result. If you have an older DX back you will get a smaller image than the FX back that this is really intended for. This reduces the resolution of you final result. The product description does not make that clear. In my experience the reviewers' comments are far too rosy given the challenges and huge additional cost of the special lens and camera back needed to use this product optimally. Probably more cost effective to use a scanner.

For a full frame digital camera like the D850: this is a quality digitizer with no place to go unless you can get your hands on a Nikon AF-S Micro NIKKOR 60mm 8G ED Lens. Ignore the ‘such as.’ It doesn’t work with any other lens for a full frame DSLR.

Works as intended. Not difficult to use, but needs to be kept clean of dust. I use a power blower, nothing too powerful, then brush the slide/negative before putting into unit. With adequate lighting and proper lens (I use Nikon 60mm Micro Nikkor) Nikon includes two adapters so pick the correct one for your lens. If you make a mistake you will notice right away as you may difficulty filling frame and focusing. Overall an excellent way to get your analog images converted to digital.
