Creativity comes full circle. A bigger mount. What a bright idea.
Z 50 is designed around Nikon’s revolutionary Z mount, the widest lens mount of any comparable camera system. A wider mount means more light, and more light means more of everything good—sharpness, contrast, focusing speed, low light performance and image quality.

I found the camera to perform above average in low light, producing high quality images. The autofocus has been on point so far and I haven't missed any shots because of it. Battery life seems to be ideal but not great, I was getting around 325 shots before it died.
The only negatives I found with this camera relate to its video capabilities. It has a 30 minute record limit and does not have a fully articulating screen. If these two factors don't matter to you, the Nikon Z 50 is a great entry level mirrorless camera that will most likely satisfy your needs.

Suggest getting a spare battery.
Beware... Update on Amazon return policy.
Wait for a month and get told wait 2 days. Customer service is not helpful.
My review on Nikon z50 remains 5 star. Amazon customer service not up to par.
I did return it for personal reasons and because I found that it had trouble charging at times (probably my unit only) and I believe I saw a scratch on the lens (probably my unit only).
The lens is pretty sharp for a kit lens and small in size, which I liked, but the body is still large and thus not for portability. It's still not a very lightweight camera. That's what they're advertising so I had to mention that. I prefer the RX100 series. Similar image quality (a bit weaker but good enough), bigger aperture, much longer zoom, and fits in pockets.
With that said, the image quality was great but I wasn't a fan of the noise reduction algorithm. Older Nikon had a very natural noise reduction post-processing but not this one. It felt more synthetic unless you're at 800 ISO and less. I shoot only in JPEG as I have no time to edit RAW images. I felt that it applied too much noise reduction even in the low setting. But, results were great even past ISO 3200. Colours were great. Lots of settings to customize.
I didn't like the screen tilting downward and wish it was upward or to the side.
Autofocus was very fast but occasionally, especially after booting the camera, it would not focus for a few seconds and then finally it would. Missed shots. It had an issue there, it seems.
For some reason, the viewfinder would hurt my eyes, since it's an OLED monitor, but I don't have that issue with my Sony RX100 VI.
I'm also wondering why the battery is so huge compared to the RX100 camera when both have a similar capacity. In fact, the Sony has a larger capacity at 1240mAh but is much smaller. Both last pretty much the same.
Here's something almost no one reviews, when you want to pull out the battery, the battery slides out quickly in the Nikon, so watch out and make sure to slowly pull it out or it will fall to the ground. The Sony has a little area that catches the battery before it fully comes out, helpful.
Now, if Nikon comes out with a pocketable 1 inch sensor camera that can compete with the RX100, I would definitely consider that.
My only grumble is that of this posting, the Z50’s RAW format is still incompatible with Apple Photos, and Nikon’s native software doesn’t work in Catalina. Otherwise the picture quality is amazing.
