This was my first camera purchase and really I've been on such a journey with it in the last 3 months already. At first there was a million settings and menus and I thought I'd never figure it out but I watched a YouTube video in which a pro went through the entire camera. It's actually pretty intuitive to use and I love that you can customise buttons on the camera and in menus to quickly access your most used settings. One mistake I made when buying was to just get the camera body and not any of the bundles with different lens or accessories. When I did want to get them and had to buy then individually, they were far more expensive. For example, the FTZ adapter (which is optional and you may not want/need) would have been about $100 in the bundle but on its own is an eye watering $329.The battery life of the camera is so-so and I would recommend getting at least one spare. The z50 is super light which is good for transporting it and for actually holding it while taking pictures

The Nikon Z 50 is an amazing mirrorless camera that will serve aspiring photographers/videographers well. I love handling this camera around, the ergonomics are excellent and I've never felt like the camera was going to slip out of my hands. The camera is light weight and won't fatigue you to use over time.

I found the camera to perform above average in low light, producing high quality images. The autofocus has been on point so far and I haven't missed any shots because of it. Battery life seems to be ideal but not great, I was getting around 325 shots before it died.

The only negatives I found with this camera relate to its video capabilities. It has a 30 minute record limit and does not have a fully articulating screen. If these two factors don't matter to you, the Nikon Z 50 is a great entry level mirrorless camera that will most likely satisfy your needs.

Compared Nikon z50 with Canon R10. Look at reviews for Canon r10 and you will see why I recommend Nikon z50. Better build quality, low light performance, and overall handling and performance. Also price difference. I use a camera for hobby photos. Also kit lenses are good quality and priced right.
Suggest getting a spare battery.

I have used a Nikon F mount DSLR for 3 years now, with no complaints. Although the online reviews of the Z50 have been mixed, I decided to try it because it will accept F mount lenses with the FTZ adapter. I have been really impressed with the quietness (essentially silent) and picture quality one gets out of the Z50 with its standard kit zoom lens. The ISO sensitivity and quality even at high ISO settings mean that the relatively small aperture on the standard lens is not a problem, pictures are sharp and contrasty - and the camera plus kit lens combination is amazingly small and light. A near perfect travel camera. Plus, F mount lenses work perfectly on it via the FTZ adapter.

First off, I must say that I did like the camera, my daughter as well, and found it somewhat intuitive with a solid build quality. Buttons were great, dials as well apart from the front one, which was too difficult to rotate (didn't like using that one).

I did return it for personal reasons and because I found that it had trouble charging at times (probably my unit only) and I believe I saw a scratch on the lens (probably my unit only).

The lens is pretty sharp for a kit lens and small in size, which I liked, but the body is still large and thus not for portability. It's still not a very lightweight camera. That's what they're advertising so I had to mention that. I prefer the RX100 series. Similar image quality (a bit weaker but good enough), bigger aperture, much longer zoom, and fits in pockets.

With that said, the image quality was great but I wasn't a fan of the noise reduction algorithm. Older Nikon had a very natural noise reduction post-processing but not this one. It felt more synthetic unless you're at 800 ISO and less. I shoot only in JPEG as I have no time to edit RAW images. I felt that it applied too much noise reduction even in the low setting. But, results were great even past ISO 3200. Colours were great. Lots of settings to customize.

I didn't like the screen tilting downward and wish it was upward or to the side.

Autofocus was very fast but occasionally, especially after booting the camera, it would not focus for a few seconds and then finally it would. Missed shots. It had an issue there, it seems.

For some reason, the viewfinder would hurt my eyes, since it's an OLED monitor, but I don't have that issue with my Sony RX100 VI.

I'm also wondering why the battery is so huge compared to the RX100 camera when both have a similar capacity. In fact, the Sony has a larger capacity at 1240mAh but is much smaller. Both last pretty much the same.
Here's something almost no one reviews, when you want to pull out the battery, the battery slides out quickly in the Nikon, so watch out and make sure to slowly pull it out or it will fall to the ground. The Sony has a little area that catches the battery before it fully comes out, helpful.

Now, if Nikon comes out with a pocketable 1 inch sensor camera that can compete with the RX100, I would definitely consider that.

I love this camera so much! The only bad thing is that it is not versatile and compatible with A LOT! However, if you are ok with investing in so adapters and some other equipment, it's the best! It can connect to other lenses with connectors and it has many amazing functions! Overall, now that I have all the supplies I need, this camera is madly powerful and overall amazing 😌👌🏼

I’ve been an avid Nikon user for many years and was hesitant about mirrorless. This camera is great to make that transition and not break the bank. It’s a bit smaller then my other DSLRs but the light weight and smaller size make it more portable and pocketable. The picture quality is on Par or better then my other cameras, especially in low light, it shines. Auto focus is fast and quiet with the kit lens which is actually pretty good. Love the eye detection feature, focuses in quite low light consistently. I would recommend it and happy with purchase.

Absolutely a stellar! Trying to create a mirrorless camera when the market is flooded with Sony, Olympus and Panasonic is a daring and bold move. But Nikon truly came through with a camera that’s as good, if not better than the leading competition. Sure there’s a few key features I’d wish it had, like stabilization and 3D tracking, but for less than $1100 you certainly can’t find a better and fully featured mirrorless camera for the money than this!
My only grumble is that of this posting, the Z50’s RAW format is still incompatible with Apple Photos, and Nikon’s native software doesn’t work in Catalina. Otherwise the picture quality is amazing.
