Product description

Say goodbye to Wi-Fi dead zones. Convenient, discreet and easy to install, extended Wi-Fi coverage is just an outlet away with this essentials edition extender. Boost your Wi-Fi for mobile devices and connect a wired device such as Smart TVs or game consoles. Boost your existing network range & speed, delivering Wi-Fi up to 300Mbps. External antennas provide better Wi-Fi coverage and higher speed, while the convenient wall-plug design saves space. It works with any standard Wi-Fi router & is ideal for keeping your mobile devices connected as you move throughout your home. The extender works like a bridge between a WiFi router (or a WiFi access point) and a WiFi device outside the range of the WiFi router. The extender performs two main jobs:The extender connects to a working WiFi network. When the extender connects over WiFi to an existing network, it functions as a network client, similar to how a WiFi device connects to a network. The extender acts as an access point for WiFi devices. We recommend that you connect through the extender network only when the WiFi device is in a “dead zone” where connection from the existing network is poor or nonexistent. Data traffic routed through the extender is inherently slower than traffic routed directly from the network. System Requirements :802.11 b/g/n 2.4 GHz wireless router or gateway , Microsoft,Internet Explorer,5.0, Firefox 2.0 or Safari 1.4 or Google Chrome 11.0 browsers or higher

Good if it's necessary - Try moving router first.
This range extender does work. It does extend my network (under a different SSID). I'm a bit underwhelmed with the extra range and the speed of the N300 though. I use it mostly for extra coverage in my back yard, but no matter what set up I use or where I move the router or range extender the WiFi still seems to have spotty internet that drops off periodically. It's good for just browsing the web, but it can be frustrating to use for video streaming.I bought this with the intention of streaming videos to my chromecast onto a projector into my backyard, so the range extension and speed needed to be above and beyond the rest. It worked for 2 hours straight one night, but then, with no changes to the physical setup, the internet started dropping every 5 minutes and never recovered for the night. With the range extender being 14 horizontal feet and 6 vertical feet away from the extender, separated with a finished ceiling, standing 15 feet further away from them in the back yard, I am able to get 8.77 Mbits down and 3.88 Mbits up in the back yard, which is decent enough for streaming HD videos from youtube, generally.Overall a wise purchase. It's worked better than anything else I've used so far. I'm going to try to move things around a bit and see if they work better or if I can get slightly faster speeds.

Bought two. First one installed very easily. Second one - Chrome wouldn't attach to the range extender's web site. Weird. Eventually connected with internet explorer 11 which hooked immediately. Did the final configuration of the second device from IE11.
Both units give nice strong signals on the other side of a reinforced concrete wall from their respective routers. Personal devices in those rooms would hook and unhook, work and stall. Glad I got the extenders.

Very effective.

Pros:

1. Simple and rapid installation. Plug it in close to WiFi router for setup and power it up. Press the WPS button on the side. Go to your router and press the WPS on it. Wait for green lights and plug it in elsewhere within range.
2. Lights indicate signal strength.
3. Good range (Tested through walls at my house and gave me a good range of 30 feet.)
4. Compact
5. Has an Ethernet port.

Cons:

None yet. No bugs or quality issues detected.

I used it to extend my router to the basement and garage. Router is at one far end of the house. Placed this about half way and it has performed very well with Android boxes as well as security cameras. I use DHCP and have 4 Android boxes, 2 wifi cameras, 3 phones, 3 DVD players and a combination of laptops and pcs connected to my network. 25% of these use the extender. Had the Android streaming and was viewing my camera at the same time to see if it could handle the volume. It did.

I do not bother with the MAC filtering so I can't comment on how it works with that. I used to use it but with so many devices it became a nuisance to manage instead I rely on firewall and security software to protect my systems.

[update May 2022]

Since purchase, I've stopped using these. Often times I've noticed that while I was 'connected' with full signal I was unable to connect to the internet. The remedy to this was to check if I was connected to my router vs this extender, then disconnecting from the extender and instead directly to my router. Honestly, there is better tech available in the form of mesh equipment. Costs a bit more, but may be better suited as it provides a singular network.

In summary, if the equipment needs to be disconnected for my home network to operate properly, I need to reduce my star rating to be accurate with their usefulness.

--------

Overall, not completely impressed. It broadcasts signal well, but even though it's placed within optimal range of my router it seems to have trouble with video.

Also I seem to get random disconnects.

It works, could be better.

I'll probably end up moving it closer to my router, but that kind of defeats the purpose.

It's alright. It totally works and the setup is easy, but here's the thing with networking gear - because it can become THE reason for a lot of traffic-bottlenecking problems, I should have really invested into the dual-band version of this that supports 5Ghz signal. This 2.4Ghz version is totally fine, works well and is easy to setup, but since I had a dual-band R7000 running the show, I really should have gotten the dual-band version. And, frankly, if your router does 2.4G and 5G signal then you should not create any additional bottlenecks in your netowkr and get the dual-band version.

Some other notes:
1) DO NOT BUY THIS if you think you can use the Ethernet port and turn the extender into an Access Point. It WILL NOT work. The Ethernet port is a LAN port, not a WAN port and is only to connect other devices TO the extender, NOT to create an access point from an Ethernet jack. Not holding it against the unit - I should have done my homework, because *ultimately* the information about the capabilities of the Ethernet port IS out there, but I didn't find out about this limitation from Amazon's description of the product.
2) Testing the speed of the WiFi signal with the Netgear Genie app, I could only get 140Mbps when connected to the Extender, NOT 300 Mbps. Not sure why - I didn't end up owning this unit long enough to find out. Once I realized it was a huge mistake to buy the 2.4G-only model, I returned the unit.
3) I don't know how well this would work with Smart Connect (Netgear's clever way of managing 2.4G and 5G signals on the back end and only presenting a single SSID to the user). I would hope the Extender could talk to the router and "pass on" the Smart management.

I was looking for an easy way to boost my WiFi signal to my laptop. I was only getting about 66% signal strength on my internal adaptor and there were times that system throughput suffered as a result.

Setup was fairly straightforward if the instructions are followed carefully and my signal strength jumped to 100% after setting it up on my 802.11n network.

One thing to note is that the extender adds "_EXT" to the network name of the router, effectively creating 2 networks to choose from. I set these up as profiles in my adaptor software so that my laptop will connect to them in preferential order. Since the N300 (EX2700) only sits about 10' away in direct line of sight my signal strength is always 100% with zero dropouts.

This unit also features an Ethernet port on the bottom side and WPS setup button for those that use this feature. The Ethernet port has been of more use than I had initially thought it would be as it allowed me to connect to the internet to download some software for the internal wlan adaptor that I installed to replace my older unit. This is a handy way to get a wired connection from a wireless network.

Been using the extender for almost two weeks and it looks like the perfect purchase for my situation.

My main router cannot be relocated since it's a fibrenet connection. Before buying this, I used to get speeds of 10-15 Mbps over WiFi (against my internet plan of 150 Mbps which is achieved by getting devices very close to the router or simply connecting to the router via LAN cable) in the room where I work. Getting a good connection and not reaping its benefits would be a bummer. That's when I did my research and came to buying this product; set it up the moment I received it.

I was surprised to see the MRP on the label which stated Rs. 3500! But it's alright since I got mine for Rs. 1600 from SD Infotech.

Inside the box were a quick start guide and the extender itself, nicely packed. Looking at pictures on the listing, no clarity regarding this in customer reviews, and travel adapters being listed under "Frequently bought together", I thought I'll be needing an adapter to convert the plug to fit the Indian socket, but to my surprise, the extender sported the Indian style plug by default. The extender has four lights - two big and two small - which change colors to indicate changes. The big lights indicate the signal strengths between the extender and main router, and the extender and wireless devices connected to it by changing colors - green (excellent), amber (good), red (poor). It also has a LAN port on the bottom side.

Setting it up was easy and straightforward. The instructions to set it up are mentioned very clearly in the quick start guide. My router does not have a WPS button so I set it up using my laptop, which took about 3 minutes. Later, I set it up in the room where the signal was weak and the speeds were low, played with the position of the antennas, and voila! The speeds were up by a great margin - around 60 Mbps on WiFi and 95 Mbps via LAN. They're nowhere close to 150 Mbps but I believe this is the fastest it can get in this particular corner of the house.

Overall, I am satisfied with the extender since it does what it's supposed to in the best way possible. 3 mobile phones and 2 TVs remain connected wirelessly, and one laptop via LAN, all at the same time and there is no noticeable drop in performance.

It works quite well. When I purchased this product I had the fair share of doubts about its quality and speed output but it's been more than 3 months now and I haven't faced any problems after that except for just one which was the visibility of this device to my Sony Smart TV. It was working really well with every smartphone when I first installed it, however, TV's WiFi couldn't find this device's network at first. The main reason for buying this device was to stream content to my TV as main access point's signals were unable to reach it and I don't want to move my router every now and then to other nearer ethernet connection. Setup was hassle free so I got it running within minutes but it didn't work with my TV at first so I had to contact company's support team to solve this problem. They suggested to do a little tweak in router settings and then I got it running with my Sony 4K TV too. After that, I use it nearly every day and barely had any problems. I would say money well spent.

Completamente recomendable!

Gets The job done. I am using Apple Airport Express as primary router. I guess its getting old and I see a drop in the signal strength in my study/work room. I was looking for a range extender at an affordable price. I came across this device. Its fairly easy to setup (took me 10 minutes). Significantly improved the Wi-Fi signal strength. I am on ACT 100 mbps connection. However my apple router is only giving around 50mbps on an average. The range extender is getting me around 30mbps which is more than enough( I was getting 3-4 mbps earlier without the extender). Overall I am satisfied with the product. Gets the job done. (I could have ordered a higher version to support 5ghz as its only delivers 2.5ghz band. 2.5ghz is the most common and congested as we have probably 20-25 devices at home operating in this bandwidth). Bottom line - Huge Thumbs up!
