It's a good value, but its not for me.
3 Stars
It's a good value, but its not for me.
This is one of the cheapest flashes you can buy on Amazon, being cheap its not necessarily bad. There is no display, there is no zoom, there is not TTL adjustments so it's fully manual. But having that said, it is ridiculously easy to operate with only a simple display showing the flash intensity. The flash is also packed with good features if you are setting up a studio such as Slave Trigger which is very helpful when you want to have studio photography with multiple flash units. It also can rotate fully backwards and at many different angles. There is a small diffuser built into the top of the unit which you can also pull down.Included with the package is a stand and carrying case for the flash. So why wasn't it for me? Well as soon as I received the flash, I popped a set of batteries (not the freshest batteries but definitely batteries that worked) and the flash turned on but could not output any light. After struggling a bit with I changed to a set of fully charged batteries and it worked fine so then I put the flash into my studio and started the photo shoot. Halfway through the photo shoot, I noticed that the flash stopped working most of the time, I would say for every 5 shots I tried to take (1-2 per second), it would flash once at 1/4s intensity. The recharge time of the flash went down to about 12 seconds. Comparing this performance to the Yongnuo YN560, I am able to get continuous flashes from the same set of batteries, and when the charge runs out, the recharge time is about 2 seconds. My conclusion to this, is that if the battery is anything other than fully topped up, expect poor performance from this flash. If you're just using this flash casually and not in a studio setting, it should do the trick.

I'm really happy with this flash. Sure I would have liked to spend an extra 400 dollars for the same result but this way I'm happier. There are a few things this flash doesn't do but at least for me that's more than OK, at least for now. I would not pay an extra 50 dollars for having a zoom function. And same goes for having E-TTL. I see some people really give a lot of credit to that E-TTL but I can't say I concur. Especially if you are a novice, what exactly are you going to learn using an automatic mode?! I mean, why did you buy a SLR camera? To learn how to take pictures in manual mode, right. Then why use the flash light in automatic mode? Don't you want to learn about lighting as well? That's how I see things. After all, is not that much trouble figuring out how to use it. Being artistic, that's a different story , but I really don't see how E-TTL would make you an artist. Manual mode puts you in control. I don't think shooting in automatic mode gives you much satisfaction, same goes with the lighting. If you don't know how, you learn. But don't tell me that E-TTL is better to begin with. It's better if you never want to learn and point-and-shoot is your style. Otherwise, a flash like this one is ideal. Inexpensive and very versatile. There is plenty of control on it, yet remains extremely simple. At this price you can actually explore the possibilities you get when using multiple flash lights. I want to see you doing that, especially as a novice, with a flash that costs a few hundred dollars. I know there are a lot of people that are clueless but full of money, still trying to figure that one out, but for the still logical world this flash is by far a better alternative for a novice than a more complex and probably much more expensive unit.
I will not list the features here as some reviewers do, please read the description of the product for that. They included an excerpt from the instructions included with the flash, the useful part, so you'll know what you get.
Overall I'm very happy with this one. The only problem is you still have alternatives out there. They might also be good, but this one surely is.

Good for beginners as it is not expensive and not too heavy. Be sure to set the shutter speed to lower than 1/400 otherwise the photo will have half dark area.

The Neewer TT560 is an excellent little workhorse of a light source for straightforward manual-only applications. I measured its light output with a meter and found that at full power it is only about two thirds of a stop less bright than my very powerful full-featured (and expensive!) Pentax AF540FGZ flashes.

Advantages of the TT560 include: super simple to setup and operate; solid feel and construction; comes with a self-standing foot and soft draw-string bag. Because it has no LCD display and therefore no complex modes, you can configure it easily when installed inside a softbox, pretty-much by feel alone.

Disadvantages: has no zoom; flash sync no faster than 125th second; you cannot disable its sleep mode. No zoom is not an issue used inside softboxes and umbrellas. Sleep mode is set quite long so I haven't been bothered by that. Flash sync is a minor issue since I usually work at 1/160th second, but 1/125th of a second is fine for most studio work.

I have been using the two TT560's I bought for rim-lighting and fill in portraits and model shots, and I have found they are reliable and pretty consistent. I have used them both with radio triggers and as simple slaves, triggered off the main light. But I have also used them singly or as a pair for complete lighting setups on their own, inside Westcott Apollo softboxes and umbrella octa softboxes.

I'd recommend these flashes to anyone needing a few inexpensive manual flashes for off-camera work, especially to supplement your main light(s).

This is the first time I ordered a flash online. I received it last Tuesday, meaning I've had it for five days now. I was pretty skeptical at first because it was so cheap, used to Canon products that start at 100$ CAD, but when I received it I was pretty impressed. It's very bulky, a lot more than I thought it would be, meaning that it doesn't fit in my smaller camera bag I carry everywhere with me. But it will fit no problem in my bigger one, so it's fine.

It has manual controls, which I really like because my Canon 320EX doesn't, and it also has a test button, which my Canon 320EX also doesn't have. I tested it during a small photoshoot for a friend's project, along with flash triggers I also ordered on Amazon, and everything worked perfectly. The only times the flashes wouldn't, well, flash, was when we forgot to turn a switch on. No misfire, and the flash is a lot more powerful than I thought it would be. In my tiny apartment with white walls, it bounced perfectly and produced a beautiful light. I also tested it in a quick self-portrait shooting, and it worked well there too, both as a slave and on camera (I work with a T3i, or 600D in Europe).

Professionals would probably think this flash is very cheap and, as such, they wouldn't like it, but I personally really enjoy working with it and learning to control the light with more precision, thanks to the manual controls.

Edit after 7 months: I'm still very happy with this flash. It keeps working perfectly and it doesn't misfire. Now that I'm in photo school, however, I do start considering a bigger, more complicated flash, but I will still definitely keep this one! It taught me the basics of manual flash - despite the fact that it didn't have any indication of which LED meant which fraction of the output level - and it is a lot simpler to use than more 'pro' flashes (I've used one of the pro Canon flashes today and I've had a hard time making it work like I wanted it to). Definitely recommended if you're still a beginner and just want something to be able to do some off-cam flash at times (maybe as a complement to another flash you've already got).

I loved the irony of getting this device through a "flash sale". Groan. So it was good value for money as I had wanted one for a while. I use flash guns for the photography of scale models so I didn't need through-the-lens metering. Instead this flash has a power-level function. I have not tried this yet but it is all I need. With digital cameras and still-life subjects you can just take various shots and choose the ones that come out best. It comes with a neat little table-top mount especially for users like me who won't mount the gun on top of a camera. Handy. As for the functions the flash has these took some experimentation to figure out what they meant. It has a manual mode for triggering via the hot shoe. I tried this on my Olympus E-450 and it worked just fine. The other two modes ("S1" and "S2") are somewhat more cryptic due to the agonisingly tortuous English language used in the instructions. These two are slave functions triggered by the flash output of a primary gun. So you don't need any wiring nor need to worry about hot shoe compatibility. (The S2 functionality works with a red-eye-prevention flash where it only gets triggered by the second flash not the first.) One curious feature of the phone is the built-in white reflector. In mine the reflector is on the outside of the built-in diffuser which means it cannot be used to bounce the flash. It seems pointless which made me think that the gun had not been assembled correctly. Bizarre.

Ansonsten Top 👍🏼
