5.0 out of 5 stars Best Value In Lighting
Reviewed in the United States on May 22, 2024
Style: RGBVerified Purchase
This has to be one of the best values in lighting I have ever come across. The price per performance blows me away, not including everything that is included(I was not expecting the batteries to come with it). I have owed my own production company for over 10 years and have owned and used many lights in this time. Yhis may be my favorite for its output and portability. Get this light, you will not be dissapointed!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars So much control!

Style: RGBVine Customer Review of Free Product( What's this? )
I should start this with the important fact that this is really the first LED based studio light that I've used—color me (RGB, whatever) impressed! I grew up with 3200 K photoflood lamps, with matching films, and have used various halogen and flash studio systems over the years. I've been fascinated by how far LED technology has come—professionally part of my forte was approving and matching very high end color development for major brands—and about 10 or so years ago, I was able to have the first good (to my eyes) color booth. I set our standard at 5000K, which Pantone also adapted several years ago. If a client really specified 6500 K, we could work with that, too. Our expensive, remote controlled color booths sat, unused.

In any case—this little lamp is just amazing to me. It's the smallest wattage I would consider though—and that's when at 100% with AC power. But, the control you have, and I assume that this is the case for most of this generation of LED studio lights, is incredible. As is the color rendition and evenness of the field (when viewed against a wall using the supplied bullet reflector).

The lack of heat, and again, this would hold true for all of these newer style lights, is revolutionary. The main reason I switched to studio flashes was the heat was too great for what I was typically using the lights for. And note that while I said this was the lowest wattage light I'd consider, it does pump out a decent amount of light.

I've had various Neewer products over the years; a few lens adapters, some step-down rings, maybe a sliding rail. While they all worked, some did not feel like fully finished products to me—while this lamp kit totally does. It's all very slick—the way the batteries attach, the handle, etc. My one complaint about the kit, overall, is with the carrying case—mainly, the foam insert is an inch too small in both directions for the fabric case—it's fully functional, and is not a bad design, just the loosened of the foam is off-putting. There is a friction hole in the handle that allows the skinnier (more modern standard) umbrella poles to fit through.

Modes—you can use this to output pretty much any color you could imagine. (no more Lee and Rocco filters! Yet another wonder.) The Modes with a cycle action (video, not my thing) might all be useful. With the App you can fine tune many of them, even setting upper and lower limits on some. Oddly, to me, they have an FX that is "candlelight" and it's shame that they didn't give you wider control over the color range—I really wanted to see how close I could get to crackling fire, but I'd need to use some gels to get orange enough.

Everything feels solid, and tightly assembled. The control interface is simple enough, and the App allows you to group and control other lights (most likely all need to be Neewer?). It's just incredible to me, how easy this level of integration has become.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good BiColor light

Easy to setup led light, that has the ability to use standard bowens mount via an adapter. I can't seem to get the NPF battery plate to work correctly. Gives me an error or doesn't allow the same level of brightness. It works fine plugged into an outlet though. I like the app to control it, and the different effects are useful in some situations.

5.0 out of 5 stars A reliable, high-quality video light that offers flexibility in both studio and field settings
Reviewed in the United States on May 14, 2024
Style: Bi-ColorVine Customer Review of Free Product( What's this? )
Upon unboxing the NEEWER MS60B 65W COB LED Video Light, my first impression was notably positive. The product’s packaging was compact and efficiently designed, giving off a professional vibe without leaning too heavily into a luxury aesthetic. It felt designed for practicality, aiming to protect the unit without unnecessary frills.

The MS60B boasts a robust feature set for a video light. With a 65W output delivering up to 40000lux at 1 meter, the light intensity is impressive. The color temperature is adjustable from 2700K to 6500K, which is quite versatile for various shooting conditions. Additionally, it features PWM dimming technology allowing precise control over brightness from barely visible to extremely bright, a range that can be crucial in creative environments.

User-friendliness is a strong point for this light. The inclusion of both physical knobs and buttons for onsite adjustments and the option for app-based control via NEEWER’s Infinity technology enhances its accessibility. The app allows for control of multiple lights and firmware updates, which is a boon for managing more complex setups.

Performance-wise, the MS60B meets and occasionally exceeds expectations for its price range. The high CRI of 97+ and TLCI of 98+ ensure that the colors in your footage are vibrant and true to life, a critical factor for professional video and photo work. The silent cooling fan is a thoughtful addition, preserving the longevity of the light while maintaining a noise-free environment—ideal for video shoots.

When compared to other video lights in the market, the MS60B stands out for its compactness and the sheer utility of its features like the Bowens mount compatibility, which allows for various modifiers to be attached, increasing its versatility.

Considering the price and performance, the NEEWER MS60B offers substantial value for money. It is sturdy, versatile, and capable of high performance, making it a solid choice for professionals and serious hobbyists alike.

On the downside, while the battery performance is adequate, the operational time of up to 2 hours might require additional battery packs or frequent charging for longer shoots, which could be a limitation for some users.

Overall, I would recommend the NEEWER MS60B to anyone in need of a reliable, high-quality video light that offers flexibility in both studio and field settings. Its range of features and excellent performance make it particularly well-suited for professionals and enthusiasts who require precise lighting control in their visual projects.

5.0 out of 5 stars Professional Quality and Performance in an All Inclusive Kit at a Value Price

Style: Bi-ColorVine Customer Review of Free Product( What's this? )
First off, let me say kudos to Neewer; finally, a manufacturer has provided a complete light kit. Not only does the kit included everything you need to light a subject, notwithstanding light stands, modifiers and the like, but every aspect of its design and execution is well thought out. And as far as I’m concerned, not only is it a kit complete, it’s a value at under $200.

What I mean by complete is that the MS60B kit includes two power sources, batteries and an A/C adapter, a very robust light stand adapter that can hold an umbrella, a very efficient reflector, a Bowens adapter allowing the use of standard Bowens light modifiers, two TP-970 batteries rated at 7800 mAh each, charging cables, a small diffuser that slips over the reflector, and a cover for the COB (Chip on Board) LED, all of which fits into a protective nylon case. I have continued to be frustrated that other manufacturers don’t even include a light stand adapter with their lights, an accessory I’ve always thought should be standard.

The MS60B light itself is a slick, all metal little unit with intuitive controls and a quiet, built-in fan. There is the on/off button, two knobs that also act as buttons, and a multi-button for switching into “Infinity” mode, for connecting to the Neewer app, the 2.4G mode, that is used to select a channel and include or exclude the light in/from a group. Various long/short and combinations of pushes also allow the user to lock the buttons and check the internal temperature of the light.

From the light itself, CCT and brightness can be controlled along with a choice of 12 special effects (FX). Brightness can be adjusted in unusually precise increments of 1% from 0% - 100%, and CCT in increments of 100k from 2700 - 6500k. Each of the cinematic FX choices can be adjusted in frequency, for example how frequent do you want the lightening to flash, and so on.

Neewer states that the light has a CRI (Color Rendering Index) of 97, which is considered a phenomenal rating and assures that colors are recorded accurately. As an example, this light would be an excellent choice for reproducing artwork, or for portraiture where skin tones are important. And the same holds true of the very high TLCI (Television Lighting Consistency Index) rating of 98. TLCI is a standardization (so is CRI) created in the EU; a standard adopted by television and film studios throughout the world. So, if you’re shooting productions for Netflix or NBC using LED lighting, the MS60B would match the color standards required in those industries and integrate seamlessly into a lighting set. In other words, Neewer implies that the MS60B light is in accordance with the highest production standards for accurate color rendition.

Neewer also supports an app from which the light can be controlled; interestingly, it has a low rating in the app store, 2 out of five stars, but I’ve found it to connect and work flawlessly. Besides allowing all of the same controls and settings as the physical light, it also offers a couple of additional, and in my opinion, powerful features. First, it has a “Picker” tool that is used to match the lights CCT output to that of the selected object. For example, you’re in the shade, that typically contains a lot of blue, shooting a human subject using the MS60B as a fill or catch light. Use the apps Picker to match the MS60B’s Kelvin temperature to that of the light reflected from the subject. Then use a custom color balance setting in camera to match the overall lighting to the sensor. It’s a powerful tool and one that can save considerable time in post-production.

The app also provides settings to match the MS60Bs CCT output to industry standard color conversion filters (Lee over light gel filters for example); CTO to convert Daylight (Dysprosium) to tungsten and CTB to convert tungsten to daylight, each adjustable to 1/8 strength, as are the available filters. The app also has a “Light Sources” tab that allows the user to select and match ten pre-set lighting situations, for example Modelling Lights, HMI6000 lights, Sunlight, etc. Another useful feature when the need to match the MS60Bs color temperature to other on-set industry lighting.

Neewer continues to impress with both the quality of their products and with their commitment to the photo/video industry. This light, the MS60B, is top of the line in its category of features and power, and for the completeness of the included kit, a real value.
