I wanted to "love" this unit - instead, I only "like" it.

The design is astounding! What a design - the guys (and gals) that created this, are so far beyond my abilities! They really did a remarkable job. So where did it let me down?

The unit is made completely from plastic. Now, I admit I don't know all the types of nylon/plastic/polymers and black magic that goes into that stuff, but the plastic used seems a bit "light-weight". It seems like it could be a bit "brittle".

The design for holding the unit into a vent is very clever. A metal arm with a hook on the end, slides in between the vanes and then latches onto the vane as you tighten a knob. Next, you simply push the phone holding part over a small ball joint that's on the part holding on to the vane, and your done! It really is very simple! You can position your phone to almost any angle, and then tighten up another knob and you're done.

My problem is the plastic. I have a 2012 Chevy truck and the air vents are - I assume - about as solid as any other. But let's face it, the vanes are not made out of metal! At this starting point, the base has movement. Plastic vane onto a plastic base unit.

The unit does stick out a fair way, due to the various parts that need to be tighten and adjusted. And at the end, is this unique cradle that holds the phone. Arms with arms! It's beautiful to watch how it works, but at each different joint, there seems to be a little more play involved.

For me, the unit is just able to support my old Apple 6 with a very small, silicone skin for a case. I am no longer driving off-road, but I wonder if the common jarring and banging around, would cause the unit to move the phone out of position.

If the entire unit was made of aluminum, I believe it would be vastly stronger. But then the cost would be more - probably a lot more!

And although I looked everywhere on that thin steel arm that grips the vent vane, I could not find a single stamp stating that the US Government had tested and endorsed that arm as "Military Grade". Can anyone let me know what are specific characteristics of "Military Grade" steel over "regular" steel? I wonder where the manufacturer sourced US Military Grade Steel from. I wonder if any can purchase some of this metal? Or could this possibly be some kind of advertising gimmick? I wonder...

It is a very good looking phone holder. I have never seen one that is so unique! It is amazing when you place your phone into the cradle and the arms lock around it! I would be totally sold, if I had a little more confidence in its ability to hold a phone firmly, without any flex or give.

Miracase Gravity-Style Phone Holder for Car Vent Review.

Note that some reviews showcase the classic style phone holder and are mixed in with the gravity style phone holder reviews.

The design is what drew me to this phone holder. There is no mention of what this phone holder is made of
other than the silicone pads on the phone clamps and military-grade double steel/metal air vent clips. Usually, there's a mil-spec rating that follows. I assumed that the construction was of a lightweight metal, hoping that I may have stumbled across a deal at this price point!

Upon receiving this gadget, it was immediately evident that this phone holder was not made of metal due to its lightweightedness. At the same time, it is rather ingenious how this holder works! The phone holder is made of plastic throughout except for the metal vent clips and a few small screws.

My '13 Ford Fusion has thin vent blades/vanes. Much of the weight is focused on the metal vent clips. Holding the phone holder from the metal clips by hand, it feels lightweight. Dropping my phone into the holder substantially amplifies the amount of weight felt at the metal clips. The padded portion after the clips helps to counteract the weight across the vent vane area.

The concern is the amount of weight exerted on a single vent vane and whether this will cause damage in the long term. The phone holder was only tested for fitment and not road-tested.

The problem is that the vents in this vehicle are sloped downward, which limits installation options. There is also a sliding tab positioned in the centre of the vent that controls the direction of airflow. The vent vanes had to be positioned in a straightforward orientation to allow the metal clips to “catch” the rear of the vent vane. There is a small plastic lip protruding from the padded portion just below the metal clips to keep it aligned with the vent vane.

With the holder installed, I could not get a good viewing angle of my phone. The vent vane could not support the weight of the holder with my phone (iPhone 15 Pro). The result is the phone slopes downward and angle adjustments made through the ball and socket assembly could not compensate for this.

On the plus side, there’s enough space between the phone holder and vent that should prevent your phone from getting baked from your vehicle's heat output during winter months. In summer, vehicle air conditioning will likely keep your phone cool because of the phone holder’s passthrough air design.

The problem I encountered may not affect your vehicle. I like the design of this phone holder. I do not have a 3D printer, so there’s no way I could fabricate this device. This product earns four stars out of five.

I am sure we have all at some point bought the stumpy magnetic supports that slot into the cars air vent.
Fine and dandy for temporary use but if you take the phone off it and on it all day the teeth do not grip as well as they use to.
And if you are lucky it comes off with the phone but more often than not it falls off and distracts you as you drive.
This holder has a design I have not seen before. It simply slides into the air vent and grips one of the vent rails and you screw it down until it is secure and that is that.
It is a standard magnet that is strong enough to support most phones. I can imagine that using two would certainly support a larger phone or even a tablet.

It is best secured to a fixed vent rather than a moveable one as it will sway back and forth while driving when the phone is attached. Or do as I did and stop the movement of the vent with ducktape.
As you can see it does protrude more than the regular magnetic mount so bear that in mind when you are positioning it.
It comes with round metal plates that either stick to the back of your device or to its case. If using the latter I suggest attaching the disc to the outside of the case as this gives a better hold on the magnet.
It is a strong holder so be careful not to over tighten the clamp and break your vent grills.
Having tried many dashboard mounts over the years this is bar far the best I have used and at £11.99 it is a very good price.

I would say that out of all the air vent phone holders that I’ve seen or owned. This one is probably the best.
It fits very easily and is very sturdy . The magnet pads hold your phone securely and doesn’t wobble about. It’s also very easy to position your phone exactly where you want it.
