It arrived before noon the next day. Carton was in good condition and unopened. Easy to hook up with HDMI cable (or the composite (YELLOW, RED, WHITE) cables) - both worked fine for me) to my TV. So far I have tried playing about 10 different DVDs on it. All worked fine. Picture quality was excellent (HD) for DVDs that output HD. I see reviews complaining about video quality. Keep in mind the quality you get also depends on the quality of the DVD you put into it! Some (older) DVDs are not recorded in HD... So it's not fair to blame the DVD player. On the other hand, be realistic, this player costs under $50 (Canadian dollars). It's a low end budget device. Do not expect it work like a Rolls Royce! That being said I am very happy with it. It exceeds my expectations. Any of the store bought DVDs with High Definition (HD) movies on them play beautifully using the HDMI output to my 70" LCD TV. The remote works great, BUT it has so many damn buttons even for a technical person like me it is a bit challenging sometimes, but once you figure out what you need to push it works fine. I have tried playing some videos from a USB stick. This is a bit tricky as it appears to only like certain types of files, using certain types of CODECs. So far I have only been able to play videos from the USB stick that are AVI files using the DIVx video CODEC and audio using MP3 encoding. I haven't tried much more so far that work. I also have not yet tried burning these same AVI file videos onto a DVD to see if I can also play them that way. It also plays MP3 audio files from the USB stick... But I don't know why I would want to listen to my MP3s on a TV set... I suspect I could hook this up to my stereo if desperate and use it as an MP3 player too if needed.
I initially bought this for family member who is in a care home and is waiting for a cable TV hook up. SO the quick delivery was fantastic, and, so far after 3 days of heavy on and off use it's still working great.
In closing, for under $50 I feel I got great value for my money (I do not expect it to perform or last as long as a $250 or more DVD player) and am so far very happy with my purchase. I'll update this review if anything changes or I have any updates.
