Battery doesn't charge
We just bought the device a week ago and opened it yesterday. We charged the battery as directed by the instruction manual. It simply does not hold a charge and turns off several seconds after we turn it on. The device only works when plugged in.On Monday, we received help from customer service (Ashley), who did a fantastic job replacing our defective pump. Disappointing to get a defective product but we appreciate the help received. Thank you, Ashley.

As an exclusive pumper, I rely heavily on this product. Since my daughter would not latch from birth, I became an exclusive pumper. After seven months of continual use, I found that the suction power was not the same as before. I called customer service and I spoke to a representative named Julie. She troubleshoot the issue with me And even gave me plenty of tips on how to maintain the longevity of this product. I’m super happy with the continued assistance from this company. I have built an incredible freezer stash because of this awesome product. Highly recommend. Very sleek.

Update:
Finally this case with medela is finished!!!!

It has been a pain in the butt. The customer service lies!!! And if you have a pump that is not working and still under warranty you will have to chase them. The good thing is You will get eventually get it.

So after the 3 days I got a replacement pump, the maxi swing. The maxi swing is great. The only thing is at about 2.5 30 min pumping sessions I have to charge it. It's round so It won't fit in some pockets of my pants. It doesn't give you time or battery status, so you need to be aware of it on the app.

Back to the update,
In the beginning of May I called medela about an update for the freestyle. And they told me they were out of stock and should be getting them on May 20, but that it was not a guarantee. So I gave them over a month ( as I saw online that the medela website had them out of stock. So I thought there was a chance that that is what they ment by out of stock.) I then called them on June 27. The lady said that them sending me the replacement had nothing to do with what they had in stock online. She placed me on hold and then said they were going to send it to me. Finally June 29!!!! I got the pump ( no cups). The pump is not for the hands-free one. It's all yellow and looks like the one that comes with the freestyle flex.

So to sum this up, disappointed. I am glad I got something and eventually got my money's worth. But it's sad that you have to chase them down. Which is very sneaky, because I wonder how many people just give up and get taken advantage of. Its a waste of money and time. At this rate I would say buy either a cheaper medela pump or get from a different brand. The customer service is friendly but they are not given the right information or they are not honest with their customers.

------

I saw reviews from people who said it was not reliable if your are just pumpin to feed your baby. But I went ahead and bought it.

It was amazing while it worked. Suction was not aggressive and cups are not super bulky. Which are a plus

Unfortunately...
Be aware of charging times. This pump worked for about 3 to 4 sessions (30 min) I exclusively pump and if you leave this pump to charge over 2 hours it will stop working ( that is what the representative at medela told me) I bought this on April 2 and on the 18th at 1:30am it would not turn on. I contacted medela and they were friendly and helpful. The lady said that me leaving it to charge 3-4 hours could be the result of it dying as the max is 2 hours
They advised me they would expedite me a replacement, and I should get an email with tracking. 3 days later I didn't get anything. I called them to confirm and the lady said they were out of stock and one was not sent. She then offered to send me a medela swing maxi for the mean time. She advised that once they get back in stock they will send me this one. But at this point I am not even sure if I will get this one again.

But so far if you are relying on this pump for exclusive pumping be aware that if you run into issues with it you should have another pump that you can fall back on. As medela will not reach out to let you know they don't have any in-stock to replace for you.

So at this point I give this a 1 star. I paid $500 and have no medela pump. The price, for something that can not be left to charge longer then 2 hours ( no over night charging). And Customer service can not send you a replacement and will not let you know if it is out of stock.

I will update this review with final results

I did combo BF and pumping with my LO and this one has been quite handy! I have used this in the car while driving and also while doing chores.

Super easy to clean and sanitize since it’s only 3 pieces. While the machine is small it is still heavy and doesn’t fit into pockets very well so it is a bit annoying at times because I don’t know where to tuck it. A few times it just tucked in my waistband of the pants just to stay on since it only comes with a string (a clip would be useful).

Another downside is that the spout is at the top and not closed up, so if you lean too far down milk will spill! Happened to me a few times when I wasn’t paying attention. Otherwise I like the pump, the suction is strong similar to their bigger machines (I also have a sonata pump at home).

Overall great product but I hope in the future they can eventually make one that is wireless with no tubing!

As a breastfeeding mom who has been using this pump daily for just over 6 months I am telling you do not buy this pump. Reasons being: 2 months into using the pump the battery completely died on me. I called medela and they were helpful to send me a replacement battery. Although this was still a major inconvenience because it’s important to pump to keep your supply up especially during the early months of postpartum. This left me 2 days without a working pump. The replacement battery is now having issues where when the pump is turned for a few minutes I can’t use the touchscreen at all. I can’t increase/decrease/pause or use the letdown button. I’ve also been having issues with no suction and it takes me multiple tries to get it working. I am going to be contacting them again for a new pump since I’m still under the 1 year warranty however I don’t see this pump lasting much longer after the warranty is up and I can no longer get replacements. Even when the pump is working I find it takes 30 minutes to empty me. Lastly, even though it’s ‘hands free’ it’s not actually hands free you have to put the battery around your wrist or in a pocket. It’s bulky and annoying.

This pump is one of the, if not the most expensive pump sold and it’s a complete head ache. Very disappointed. I wish I never chose this pump.

The only good thing about this pump is that it’s easy to clean with minimal parts but that doesn’t matter to me at all I would rather have a consistently working pump!

Been using this pump for 9 months as an EP now and absolutely love it. You get the powerful suction of a normal pump but with collection cups. I pump for 30 minutes each session. I put the motor in a belt bag and swing it to my back as the display can be a bit touchy. Cups are easy to clean and put back together. I ended up getting an extra set of cups to make it even easier. I can get 4 or 5 pumping sessions out of a full charge on the battery—which I think is good for a portable motor. Charges fully in 2 hours. Medela does recommend not leaving it plugged in after it completes a full charge. I don’t think they mean you have to pull it off the second it does, but just overnight. Has never been a problem for me with my pumping schedule. Medela’s customer support has been amazing for me too. My pump started making a weird noise around month 7 and called them. After a few questions it was determined that my pump should be replaced. Just had to send my proof of purchase invoice. Got a new one the next day.

5.0 out of 5 stars Should have started with this pump!!

Ok first of all let me start by saying I love this pump! Yes should have not listened to my husband and bought it a long time ago - I got the In-Style Medela via insurance as it was the only one that had the least copay.- let me do a comparison:
1) Free Style offers freedom to move! Small and compact! and I love love the In bra cups which give you freedom of movement without dropping the bottle (hate the bottle design, I’m pretty sure a man designed that system because they thought it’s ok for a woman to look like a milking cow!!). I was tethered to one place with the In Style as it was bulky and the battery charger would easily split off if you move around (even if you had contained everything in a carryon bag)! With this Free Style pump, you can move around as much as you like and it won’t shut off cz guess what, the rechargeable battery is in the pump!! Not sure why they couldn’t also do that in the In Style given how bulky it is.
2) Free Style is so easy to use with clear buttons and an LCD screen! Click the on button and voila the screen lights up and you press on play. Even in the middle of the night I know exactly what up press and where I am in the pump
Cycle. With the In Style I used to get confused what to press to switch from expression to let down and often restarted with the off/on button which is frustrating as it means the pump should stop at 30min and I would be restarting the pump cycle every so often.
3) the Free style is quieter than the In Style - feels like I don’t even hear it when I am walking around. The In Style has an industrial sound like a small excavator which is annoying!!
4) love that half way though the Free Style gives you a small celebratory beep at 15 min, lifts my spirits that I’m half way done (it stops at 30 min)
5) the suction is amazing with the Free Style, I was able to get an extra 20% compared to the In Style.
6) the I’m Style had a short tube that has a triangular shape fitting into the pump…does not split if you live around given it’s stable as opposed to the long and unstable tubes for the in Style that kept on getting stuck everywhere (on kitchen cabinet handles, corners of tables) and would rather split off and I would lose suction of pull my bottles and I would lose milk
And and a mini break down
7) the Free Style should replace the In Style or have the product manager of I’m Style get inspired by the design and upgrade the In Style - does not make sense to have a pump without a screen or lights or rechargeable batteries contained in the pump

As an exclusive pumping mom of 2, I have used a few different pumps in my time and this is my favorite! My youngest is almost 8 months old and this has been my primary pump. It’s so convenient as I’m getting ready in the mornings and to carry to work, even cooking supper and doing chores around the house. My supply has not been compromised (in fact, it helped to increase), but I did take the time to make sure I had the correct size flange. It makes all the difference!
For months now, I have used this pump for 90% of my pump sessions and I am just now getting to the point where it is not wanting to charge, so I am looking to buy another. I would recommend this pump to all my mama friends!

I bought this pump for going back to work with my second child. With my first child, I exclusively pumped for 12 months using the Medela Max Flow and Swing Maxi pumps, and after that experience I decided to go with a hands-free pump with my second (who exclusively breast feeds except for while I'm at work a couple of days per week). I had a great experience with my Medela pumps for my first daughter, so after reading reviews of all of the popular hands free options, I ultimately decided to go with Medela for two reasons: my comfort level with the brand, and the simplicity of the collection cups being only three pieces.

I started using the pump at the end of February, and I use it two to three times during the day while I'm working, twice per week (so about 5-6 uses per week). It has been perfect for me. The suction is great and honestly I haven't notice much of a difference between my hands free pump compared to my Swing Maxi pump. It's super easy to take apart and clean while at work, and although the actual pump isn't super small, it does fit well enough in a large jacket pocket. The only complaint that I have so far is that the pump has a very sensitive touch screen, so sometimes while it's in my pocket, occasionally buttons accidentally get pressed and the settings will change or it will turn off.

Here's where this pump really sets itself apart from others. One of the breast shields started to crack (after only about 2 months of use) but was still functional. I called Medela's customer support and spoke with a woman who was very helpful. Not only did she replace the cracked breast shield with no questions asked, she also shipped me replacement O rings and membranes as a courtesy. She also offered to send everything "next day air" to get the new breast shield to me asap. 5/5 stars for customer service!
