The specs are great. Fast processor, best graphic card. I love the fact this is thin model, it makes it very portable.

Avoid buying this gaming laptop at all costs!!!!!
This gaming laptop is practically E-waste. This gaming laptop has run into multiple errors and can basically not run most games. For instance, if you want to play a basic game like Valorant. The computer will not run the game in full screen mode and will crash. This was just the first of my problems I continuously ran into crashes and errors for most games I've played. I trayed to look for fixes and to try to find a way to problem solve the issues with the computer, but to no avail. on paper this computer looks like a good candidate to buy, but do not be fooled.

"Wow, 8GB video card it is much slower than a 4GB video card. Based on my knowledge in technology, an i7 is terrible for gaming for sure. This laptop has only one fan, and it is overheating. A gaming laptop must have a good cooling system with dual fans and ventilations. This one doesn't have enough. If you upgrade to 64GB RAM and install a 2TB SSD, it will be much worse. If you don't, then you will be out of space soon. 500GB storage is not enough for gaming. I am not playing any games, but professional gamers know what I am talking about here for sure. However, I know what you will need to play games. A gaming computer must have enough RAM, 32GB or more, a 2TB SSD for sure, and a 4 or more video card. In one word, this is junk. Do not even think about having this for gaming. I tested it for Fortnite, and the frame rate drops so low. MSI's plastic design is too cheap, with not enough cooling system. BUT, it is nice-looking on the outside. Just a reminder, it doesn't matter how beautiful or nice the case looks; the question is what is inside the box and who designed it. An i5 or AMD is the best for gaming."

So its an RTX 4060 mobile graphics that didn't get great reviews on its desktop version but on mobile its a different story. The 4060 can handle DLSS 3 and also frame generation so playing games that support this like Diablo 4 or Forza Horizon 5 gets really decent framerates. I was pushing the second highest settings for both games mentioned and can get 144fps on this 144hz 1080p monitor.

Build is ok, I personally find it gets too hot to the touch, it can feel hot especially the top left hand corner.

SSD that comes with it is around 3500/2800 speeds in crystal mark but I will replace it with a higher storage and faster NVME like the WD SN850x NVME.

Cons: the RTX 4060 has a spec of being able to handle 140W GPU TDP - the more power you feed in the more performance you can get out of it.
In this case MSI has limited it to 45W only (Not to be confused with CPU TDP!).
Confirmed in HWInfo as MSI Canada does not display this spec - but I believe the US site does.
When compared to other laptops and manufacturers ie Acer Nitro 5 (4060) their GPU TDP limit can hit over 115W.
Alternatively you can look at the MSI Katana 15 B13VFK-604CA which is a GPU 105watts TDP instead of this super crippled 45watt GPU TDP.

So what this means is even though this is a RTX 4060, its max performance is crippled. Even a 3060 running at say 100W GPU TDP it should perform similarly or not better (if you ignore DLSS3/Frame gen etc)

So whats the silver lining? You can get a semi good performance out of this 4060 with lower power than an older 3060 with high power.

It's really up to how you use this laptop. Will you be running without AC power more for gaming? If so then this is for you. If you plan to plug this in for gaming then you should look at another laptop that has a larger GPU TDP rating.

My summary
If you are after the max a 4060 GPU can do, then this laptop is not for you. 2.5/5 stars.
If you are ok with running low power 4060 with the emphasis of portability and on battery with semi decent framerates then 3.5/5 stars.

Update March 2024:
I'd like to add some technical tips. As mentioned the RTX 4060 has a max TDP/GDP power of 140 watts.
So the power brick for this MSI Thin is a maximum of 120 watts. Since the CPU and other electronics draw a good amount of power, you quickly realize that there isn't much power going to the GPU.. as designed.

In comparison my Acer Nitro 5, mentioned that it has around 115 watts TDP to the 4060 GPU, has a power brick that can draw up to 280 watts whenever it is needed!
