Love, Utley: Love Letters Book One Kindle Edition

Hannah

Maddox Lovelace. The captivating football player I met in college.

The one I only knew for a week. A week that wasā€¦ life-changing.

Until my phone rang, and I had no choice but to go home.

I left Maddox a letter, putting my feelings on paper, giving him my number, hoping heā€™d call.

But he didnā€™t call.

He never called.

He got drafted into the professional league and lived like a king while I stayed home and struggled to stay afloat.

I may have followed his career, but now that heā€™s retired from football, Iā€™ve forced myself to stop thinking about him.

And itā€™s okay that I wonā€™t ever see him again. That week in college was fifteen years ago.

Iā€™m not in love with Maddox anymore.

I might even hate him.

Maddox

Hannah Utley. The name thatā€™s haunted me since my senior year of college.

The girl who caught my attention with her wide eyes and freckled nose.

Who spent one week twisting up my insides until she stole a piece of my heart the night we got locked inside the campus library.

The girl who disappeared without a word.

Itā€™s the name of the girl Iā€™ve been trying to forget for fifteen years.

And itā€™s the name looking up at me from the rĆ©sumĆ© in my hand.

Because Hannah Utley works for the company I just purchased.

And that makes her mine. Whether she likes it or not.

Like all her books, S.J. Tilly resides in the glorious state of Minnesota, where she was born and raised. To avoid the freezing cold winters, S.J. enjoys burying her head in books, whether to read them or write them or listen to them.

When sheā€™s not busy writing her contemporary smut, she can be found lounging with her husband and their herd of rescue boxers. And when the weather permits she loves putting her compost to use in the garden, pretending to know what sheā€™s doing. The neighbors may not like the flowery mayhem of her yard, but the bees sure do. And really, thatā€™s more important.

Loved this one!
Gosh, I just loved this one. Their story was so precious and I loved that they both had a little flame burning after so many dang years. SJ Tilly poured her heart and soul inot this one and I just adored their love story that came with a bit of heartache and angst at the beginning but blossomed into something amazing.Hannah and Maddox had a week together in college and then circumstances pulled them apart and they didn't meet again until 15 years later when he was to become her boss...and forbidden to date! Their love story was sweet, and absolute perfection. The side characters were all fabulous, especially Chelsea!Narration: Zachary Webber and Andi Arndt did an amazing job in this narration. I have always been a fan of Zachary and Andi individually, but together...they are absolute fire.

ā€œThatā€™s right, Little Bunny, you can run, but Iā€™m going to chase.ā€

Listen, if S.J writes it itā€™s a guarantee that I will devour it and these characters will live rent free for the next while. Maddox and Hannah have such a special story and I couldnā€™t wait to see how it played out.

ā€œYouā€™ve been mine since that night in the library.ā€

These two shared an unforgettable week in university before Hannah disappears without a trace leaving Maddox with a lot of questions. 15 years later, he is surprised to find her working at the business he just bought. Once she is in his sets again, he is on a mission to make her his because after all the time, he still craves her like his next breathe.

ā€œMad Dog Maddox was impressive in his twenties, but in his thirties, heā€™s a force.ā€

I loved watching them reconnect and see that their chemistry has just gotten hotter during the years they were apart. Hannah has spent years taking on her family responsibilities and it was great to see someone who is solely focused on supporting her and making her happy.

ā€œI am your boyfriend. And Iā€™m the last one youā€™ll ever have.ā€

Their journey has their challenges but itā€™s broken up with spice and top tier banter.
As always, Iā€™m so intrigued by this new addition to the Tilly world and I canā€™t wait for this series to continue.

We have Hannah, our curvy heroine who starts out in college with the whole world in front of her, and connects with a hunky boy that she can't wait to see again.

We also have Maddox, said hunky boy who attends the same college and is also enamoured with Hannah.

Hannah has to unexpectedly leave college to care for her suddenly ill mother and the family business, as well as become guardian for a young cousin suddenly orphaned. In the fray, she misses out on the connection with McHottie, and they don't see each other for years. Did I mention Maddox is now a retired football player? HOT.

The majority of the book takes place after they meet again and sparks (and tempers) fly!

First of all: I loved this book and the love these characters have for each other, and I think it's a great new series starter.

Don't even read the rest of this review, just go get it and read it, then come back and tell me I was right. SJT continues to be one of my absolute faves and she can do no wrong. She could write a user manual for a toaster and I'd be all over it.

Readers who love angst will really enjoy this book. There is lots of āœØpiningāœØ and some miscommunication. If you're a peep who likes to h u r t just a little bit with your romance, you'll want to check this one out.

The second half was much more my speed, as I'm not a big angst girlie, and contained a lot of making up for missed time. I loved the third act conflict and thought it was handled *chefs kiss*. I feel so satisfied! Love it when bad characters get what is coming to them!

Absolutely loved the HEA and I can't wait to see the second book after watching the setup for it in this one. It's gonna be great!

What you get:

PINING
More pining
Second chance romance
Forbidden romance (boinking the boss)
Single mom, kind of (guardian)
Retired pro footballer with knees that crack like a glow stick (I'm not an ex athlete so what's my excuse?)
Try-hard coworker that can't take a hint

Watch out for:

Miscommunication
Pining
On page car accident
Unwanted advances

Cannot express this enough. This woman is an amazing author. I will read literally anything she writes and I know Iā€™ll enjoy it. She has created a universe where love blossoms and you just adore all the characters. Tilly always features bigger curvaceous heroines and itā€™s amazing. The male leads fall hard and are forever in love. Hannah and Maddoxā€™s story was everything I needed. There was sweetness, angst, happiness, spice and just overall feel good feelings. Iā€™m so excited for the next book. I cannot wait!

Absolutely obsessed with this book. SJ knocked it out of the park with these characters. I felt all the feels and cried which is my fave. I just love these two so much. I canā€™t wait to see what she does with the rest of the series. I know it will be great. I canā€™t wait for all my besties to read this!!!

With being an avid S.J. fan for years, and with reading all her back list, I think I can say this one is not her best book.
Sure, it felt good seeing names as Sissy, Stoleman, and the nod to Hans (he would definitely burn down Essie's house), but I had a hard time imagining that, as hurt as she was, she wouldn't have attempted to contact him, even to tell him he was a jerk... šŸ¤·šŸ½ā€ā™€ļø
I am very respectful of women's individualities and choices, but I felt this couple deserved a huge family of their own. No, I don't think every book needs a marriage proposal and a cut to a hospital delivery scene. But I don't know, Maddox and Hannah had all the paternal and maternal figures vibes already going on for them!
I don't want to be mean, but mon petite lapin doesn't exist in French. Lapin is the male, lapine is the female. My quƩbƩcoise ears were hurt with this one. Sorry.
Am I going to read the next one? You can count on it. šŸ˜‰

If it is written by Tilly, I will buy it and read it.

The quality of her stories, her characters, and the development of their stories are always top tier.
The depth, the feelings, the growth!

I will never stop loving all of Tilly's characters. I can't wait for the next book on the series!

Hannah and Maddox had a connection years ago but had to part ways due to a situation out of Hannah's control. I found it hard to connect with this story. It wasn't my favorite but I didn't hate it either.
If you like a bit of miscommunication, low drama, not too many steamy scenes, then this story of a retired football star and the girl that got away is for you.

I love her writing so much. She always draws me in and I love her MMCs. Maddox was no exception! I also love that though Maddox would do anything for Hannah, she is capable of handling things her self. Great start to her new series

I will start by saying I adore every SJ Tilly book I've read. I have my ultimate favorites and Love, Utley is now one of them.

Once I started reading, I basically couldn't stop. There are parts of this book that may rip your heart out and make you ache for Hannah and Maddox, but let me just say that ultimately my heart was smiling the whole book because what a love!

Resilient, loving, and beautiful Hannah. I just loved her and her inner thoughts. Such a gem and the love for her family was amazing. She sacrificed a good deal but always persevered while never feeling anything was an actual burden. I loved the closeness and the banter she had with them. Just a beautiful character. She was so much more than just her love for Maddox even though that is a big part of her too.

Maddox, was just.... everything. The hard to hear soft but then he was also a teddy bear. I swooned pretty darn hard for him and love that he went for what he wanted: Hannah. This man? He committed with open arms and an open heart.

Gosh they're just perfect for each other!

I also LOVED the side characters. Mama Ruth? Such a hoot and I loved the small but such sweet interactions with Maddox. I'd love a book about Chelsea when she's all grown up, hahaha.

This book has some angst, lots of love, laughs, and a ton of heart. A book worth re reading for sure. šŸ’•

This girl canā€™t write books fast enough for my obsessive reading. I have loved everyone of her books & have sped read them within days & this book was no diff. Her writing makes them epic, although the premise of the stories isnā€™t always realistic in an everyday type of way, the character developments & story telling make them resonate. The pace & details are always spot on. But what I really love about her books is the dialogue, I canā€™t pinpoint exactly what it is but it is just chefs kiss. Highly recommend reading this book & all her others (I love how theyā€™re the series are loosely intertwined). Canā€™t wait for next in this series!

Well, hello there! My first dive into S.J. Tillyā€™s world turned out to be a total banger! This was everything I didnā€™t know I needed, and I had an absolute blast reading it. Itā€™s a quick, light-hearted, adorable yet sexy read that swept me off my feet!

"Love, Utley" is a contemporary romance that captures the nuanced emotions and complexities of love with a time lag through the lives of Maddox Lovelace, a retired football player, and Hannah Utley, his new employee but an old acquaintance. They shared one unforgettable week at college and one extraordinary night together before life pulled them apart. Years later, Hannah is living her best life with her mom and niece, until an interview at a company reunites her with Maddox. When they meet again, all those pent-up emotions start bursting out, and we finally understand why these two couldnā€™t forget each other.

Thereā€™s confusion, anger, hurt, doubt, and so much more to work through, but I adored this book because it never felt frustrating despite all the angst and heartache. There was enough drama to tug at your heartstrings, but it wasnā€™t overdone. It struck the perfect balanceā€”emotional when it needed to be, funny at just the right moments, and delightfully swoon-worthy throughout.

The plot is relatively straightforward, but this book shines as a character-driven story that never feels shallow.

Now, letā€™s talk about Maddox Lovelace. Heā€™s definitely earned a spot on my list of all-time favorite book boyfriends! How he was initially described, and his dedication to his career at college felt like a strong contrast with his tender moments and vulnerability, especially when he started to let Hannah into his life. Thus, for a split second, I was blindsided! But Maddox was and is just a decent, well-raised, lovable guy, and his devotion to Hannah is absolutely swoon-worthy!

And then thereā€™s my girl Hannah. Sheā€™s vibrant, strong-willed, and resilient, perfectly matching Maddoxā€™s intensity. Sheā€™s had to navigate lifeā€™s obstacles on her own, and sheā€™s so full of love that you canā€™t help but want to be her friendā€”even if itā€™s just to give her a shoulder to lean on (though with Maddox around, sheā€™s in good hands! šŸ˜®ā€šŸ’Ø).

I also loved Smidge, Ruth, and Waller! They added such charm and warmth to the story.

Another standout aspect was the portrayal of the work environment and how women are perceived compared to men. The book highlights the disproportionate treatment women face and how stereotypes and gender roles still affect how we perceive and treat the same actions differently! This was a great aspect, and it was handled very nicely!

In short, "Love, Utley" is an irresistibly adorable read thatā€™s emotional, funny, and full of heart. If youā€™re looking for a contemporary romance that hits all the right notes, this oneā€™s a must-read!

*I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. Receiving the ARC didn't affect my opinion of the book.

It wounds me all the time they lost but I canā€™t even with how Maddox was full on in as soon as he realized she was there. Beautiful, low-angst story that Iā€™ll definitely read again.

Writing was funny, snappy and perfect.

* Second chance
* The one that got away
* Football player and curvy goddess
