A solid dislike but a decent buy at under $150

A solid dislike but a decent buy at under $150
If you can live ENTIRELY in a Chrome browser window while online, you can survive but not thrive with this crippled Chromebook. Firefox, et al. are too crippled in droid (limited plug ins). But being able to connect to the internet while mobile may be challenging for you. (My phone plan comes with several thousand Wi-Fi hot spots and I've always known where else I can connect to save data. I can tether to my phone, but why bother - just use the phone.)It has a full size SD card slot, but the card will stick out a good 1/2"+ so you can't get a cheap memory upgrade, esp. if you are used to sticking a well-made micro SD card in your phone or tablet. And you will break the card the first time you throw the 100e into your bag if you forget to unplug it.Offline apps are hit-and-miss and I enjoy them more on my phone than on the Lenovo 100e 2nd gen. If you use MS Office, you'll have to pony up for the paid version as at 11" screen size you exceed their free license. After experiencing droid phone life for several years now, I thought I could live in the droid universe. But this thing is a dismal failure and is sub par to my droid phones with a BT keyboard. There is some to like but lots to not like.Spell check in android is disabled at the factory on the 100e, a lesson taken from Samsung no doubt. Why even choose a language in settings?! So you can't enable keyboard features like Grammarly or Language Tool Proof Reader let alone the built-in android spell checker. Again - if chrome plugins are all you need and you are happy with the online Google experience, this might be survivable. You can survive but not thrive. And if you're used to the keyboard features on your phone, this experience can be frustrating. LastPass, etc will only work in the browser window even if you install it from the playstore as you can't enable it (or Grammarly.)The keyboard and track pad sit in the middle of low end computer experience. I can touch type on the thing, but the key resistance is rather high even for a cheapish model. And the layout will drive you a bit mad. I was able to remap the search key as a Caps Lock (yippee), but there is no [del] key. (The power key sits there.) (a dislike!) The top row can be configured as function keys if that's your style. At least the rest of the keyboard does follow conventional layout and has normal sized keys. (Like) I can't hit top speed, but the keyboard is at least better than at least two of my pricier BT units. I always use an external mouse but the track pad is pretty decent and better than some, esp the low end Acers.Saving the worst for last is the display. Seriously. I knew it was a TFT display going in and anyone using a laptop from 20 or so years ago will feel right at home. I thought the rather dismal 1366x768 on a 11" inch display would be okay, and it mostly is but the lack of any kind of modern brightness and contrast experience puts the thing into eye strain territory.Because you will mostly be cranking screen brightness to max, you'll be hard-pressed to get the stated battery life. As it USB C equipped and powered, your external battery will power it and you can use your existing charge cable in your car. or steal power from where ever you may without needing the PS - which comes with long enough cord and cable. (like)So even as a stand-alone Chrome browser, it fails to deliver. You'll be watching videos and looking at images on your phone instead. Oh, and at 11" it exceeds the limit for free MS Office apps. Not recommended. If you really dislike MS Windows or the Apple Tax (why are you even here then?), get a Chromecast on a cheap monitor for your phone and an external keyboard if you work from one desk. You can hang a USB-B dongle on your phone and use any USB or wireless keyboard if you can't find a BT unit to your liking.I still schlep the 100e around because I need to justify my purchase and do once in a while take it out for email and blueprint reading or to look busy at Starbucks. At least it's lightish and REALLY is rugged. (like)The list price is around $350CDN and you should seriously look elsewhere at that price point. I was able to purchase the 100e 2nd gen for under $150 and at that price it is worth considering but you might look at tablets plus a keyboard if durability and all in one are not an issue. As the 100e is not touch-screen, there is no need to make it into a convertible. It is rugged as all get out and for me that was worth a buy but certainly not as your primary computer. Of course, if you're phoneless and happy living in the Chromeverse, it's a bargain at that price and that's the market for the 100e.

I’ve always enjoyed my Lenovo laptops. This is my second one. I bought this one for my son at school. The bumpers are really nice it will help it last longer. It is a chrome book so a little different than windows but great since the schools here use google. It’s durable and packs a punch. I got it on sale so I really got bang for the buck.

My son loves it and it has the ports he needs for school. Easy to connect with your google account. These little conputers run great for years my other one is 7 years old and still solid for office style work.

My father's Chromebook (Acer C720 ) was starting to experience some issues, so I was looking for replacing it with something similar, and didn't want to shell out 300$ or more, since he mostly use it for casual web browsing, and don't need alot of processing resources.

Since, it was around black friday, I've decided to check various retailers, and saw this one on Amazon, so I couldn't resist and ordered it, even though the price seemed too good to be true!

Now, we've just received the device and had an hour to setup and use it, and wow, I'm really impressed by it. It's definitely faster than the Acer C720 it replaced, and everything seems great for the price.

Even though its a TN panel, the screen looks good, has plenty of brightness and the matte finish helps with glare.

The only thing I would consider a downside, so far, are the speakers which are located under the laptop, but otherwise I'm really pleased with it.

Fast delivery, product is great, currently using it to stream to TV using HDMI cable, interface is a little bit different from those on Windows based computers. It's very similar to Chrome browser as in the same settings with more features added such as language, display and such to make up for the rest of the difference from Windows but in its own way. All in all, product looks and feels great and the price is competitive too!

I use my Lenovo 100E Laptop for working from home. I love it . I didn’t check the size of the screen when I ordered it because the screen looked large in the picture. I already set it up so didn’t bother to exchange it. I like how the battery stay changed for a long time. This is really a great purchase for me. I thought it was touch screen. We tried to bend the screen back to use the note book but it doesn’t work. Are these features not added?

I purchased this as an extra device for my kids to play Roblox and be able to use for online schooling such as google classroom and zoom meetings. The device works good for anything online in chrome, but don't bother for using apps. It runs slow and can't keep up and crashes constantly. Honestly you get what you pay for. Not horrible, but not great. If you are buying for online programs you'll be fine. If buying for app use, don't bother.

5.0 out of 5 stars More for Less. Great value for a tough box.

For the price, this is an excellent Chromebook. After opening the box, I've done my fair share of research.

1. Solid build at an undefeatable price. Not many things you can do now for 110 bucks. A full tank gas for my SUV costs more than that.
2. USB type C port, SD card slot, and USB 3.0
3. 4 gigs of RAM is good though the 16gb memory is not enough, just insert $3 32gb micros sd card, it is much better than spend $100 more for a 64gb disk. With 20 bucks, we can make it 144GB. Why buy more expensive one. Besides, you have google cloud free for you.
5. Nice feel to the keyboard and track pad.
6. ARM processor that is optimized for the Google play store apps and runs much better than the Intel celerons you see in most low-end Chromebooks.
7. Great for travel. I wanted something I could put in my carry-on, perfect in size and 10 hours movie time on the flight. That is incredible.

You get a lot for the low price, it is hard to believe. I think the fair price for this one would be 150 at least. You can't really find those options within that price range. The only thing I wish it had was a touch screeon display. 1366x768 still looks sharp on an 11.6 in screen but it would be super cool if it is a touch screen. I would highly recommend this Chromebook.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect birthday gift
Reviewed in the United States on February 5, 2020
Size: 11.6"Verified Purchase
Bought this for my 7 year old child for her birthday. She wanted a laptop like her bigger brother and sister so I tried ordering 3 others on Amazon. One showed up damaged, no fault of Amazon and one was cancelled by the seller and the last one I cancelled because it was supposed to be here on Monday and it was still processing Monday morning so in a panic I looked for one day delivery Chromebooks, and this was the first and only one I looked at before I knew it was perfect for my daughter. It's drop proof meaning you can drop it up to 29 inches and it should be ok, and it's spill proof meaning the key bored is sealed up from the brains of the computer in case you accidentally spill a small amount of liquid on it. My oldest daughter has the same exact Chromebook given to her by the school, something we didn't know until last night. The Chromebook came less than 24 hours after ordering and was wrapped up like fort Knox.
It was easy to set up and charge before being given to the birthday girl.
The best part of this Chromebook is the battery last around 10 hours and this is something my daughter tested to the max. It is a little slower than expected but worth every penny.

I have been using chromebooks for over 5 years and have enjoyed the experience. I bought this Lenovo 100e because two of my previous chromebooks have reached end of life. Google will no longer update the chrome operating system just as Google will not update android phones after 3 years of use. The updates for chromebooks are better. Most will receive updates for approximately 6 years from the time the model was introduced, not the date that the customer acquired it. The Lenovo 100e second generation was introduced in 2019 and should receive updates to the operating system until 2025 unless Google changes the update policy. The Lenovo 100e is a sturdy machine built to military specifications for the education market. The cover does not show fingerprints. The screen is not IPS, but is clear when not viewed from a sharp angle. There are a limited number of ports. There is only one USB port and one type C port which is used for charging. I would recommend that Lenovo add another USB port and another type C port to the right side of the computer in future iterations of the Lenovo 100e. And I would implore Google to continue to expand the operating system updates for its operating systems. Googles record is deplorable compared to Apple, Microsoft and various Linux distributions. I recommend the Lenovo 100e second generation because it is a good basic machine and ideal for the education market.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great little Chromebook-well made and durable. Best Black Friday deal this year
Reviewed in the United States on November 27, 2019

This is a great little Chromebook! It was made by Lenovo for K-12 education so has features like a spill proof keyboard and rubberized edges to protect against drops. Its not very heavy and the size at 11.6" is perfect for travel. The screen is pretty good--typical for a Chromebook but not ultra high def IPS quality like on an expensive laptop. Since its a Chromebook and not a full fledged laptop it can only have programs that install to the Chrome browser itself. Hard drive space is minimal so you can't download large files unless you store them on an external USB drive or portable drive. If you looking at this laptop, but aren't familiar with Chromebooks, it helps to try them out and do a little research first to see if they will work for what you need. I just needed an inexpensive computer for travel so I wouldn't have to bring my expensive Dell laptop. Its perfect for that. I've only had it a short time but so far its working great for web surfing, watching YouTube and some word processing via Google Docs. Sometimes thats all you need.
