While I’ve never owned a gavel I was quite surprised at how light this was. It gave an okay sound and was more hollow than the video showed however it’s certainly good for a costume or a kids toy, if you can handle THAT happening all day. I would recommend just don’t intend on expecting the “real thing”. Thanks for your time, hope this was of help.

I picked this up to give as a gift to a young lawyer just being called to the bar. The quality is decent for the price and it's ideal for personalizing, as you can get the little metal plaque on the gavel engraved. It seems to actually be made of wood and is very smooth and polished, making it look professional and tasteful for office decor.

I bought this gavel for when I chair my club's meetings. Looks just like the gavel my club has and I love that it comes with the sound block. The metal strip allows for an engraving, if desired.

Honestly kinda disappointed with the turnout. The handle is basically hollow plastic and can actually screw out of the hammer head. The golden bit is a piece of cheap painted foil wrapped loosely around the head and came a bit discoloured in places.

As for the sounding board, if it's wood then it's extremely lightweight wood, and doesn't come with any sort of padding on the base. Hitting it with the hammer produces a rather high-pitched, plasticy sound rather than the quality tone you get with heavy wood-on-wood. And if you hit it hard enough, the handle comes unscrewed a bit so I literally had to superglue it to the hammer.

As a decoration or aesthetic prop, I think it'll fool most people from a distance; but as a useful gavel for any sort of purpose, it falls patently short. If you're looking for something to hit, my advice would be to look elsewhere. Case dismissed.

I am really impressed. At the time I grabbed htis it was $19 and I thought it would likely be junky. This was not the case, it is solid wood, has a comfortable handle and a solid base. It make the perfect sound on impact. Great set.
