UPDATE: Due to packaging, I initially thoguht this product is only compatible with win10+, which was a problem for me because I have an older windows version.I contacted the company - they have a live service line, and they checked the item to make sure it is in fact compatible with my version after all. The response was quick and friendly so I am happy that this service is offered. However the website seemed to think there was an error with the registration process. I am waiting for a response from the company's help desk.My computer had to run "fix this drive" process in order for it to show up but seems to be working fine now.I suggest the Amazon page as well as packaging are labelled more clearly to avoid confusion.

I do like this for editing my videos on final cut with this, however, it is a bit laggier than the 1TB because this is a 2TB one. So i mainly use it for storage, which is good. However, I used to go through demons with this as sometimes I would accidentally disconnect it from my MacBook cause it would fall out. After all, i knocked it with my hand or something like that (completely my fault), but it's so annoying with the disk to retrieve the files after it gets knocked. Cause once it gets knocked off, the device starts acting like you inserted nothing, so i always have to play some games with it in disk utility for an hour to somehow retrieve the files. I mean I always retrieve the files, it's more just like how long did it take me.

backed up my lifes work on this drive as soon as i got it, unplugged it, plugged it back in literally once and it stopped working. having to send it back to the factory for data retrieval which will now take 6 weeks and its not even for sure they will be able to restore my data. horrible product and company. buy a samsung. lacie has gone downhill since first started. i will never buy another in my life

What I love with this product is that being fast and reliable is key for what I use the hard drives for. Being an independent filmmaker in the Pacific Northwest, I have to deal with outdoor locations facing all the different seasons in one day. With the LaCie rugged, I know that all the footage I am shooting will be protected if someone drops the hard drive off a table to a cement floor, or if someone drops a bottle of water on it. This is my fifth LaCie rugged hard drive I have purchased because I have several films on the go, and I keep each film on separate hard drives. But, with the speed and ease of setup on my MacBook Pro, I will never buy any other brand.
