This thing is absolutely amazing. Coming from a 1080p MSI curved VA panel I can no longer see the ghosting. Overclockable to 160/180 Hz but HDR and 10 bit depth will NOT work, this should be a disclaimer on the store page and is false marketing. It's also worth noting that if you use Nvidia share for recording stuff (which I do most of the time) will not work with 10-bit depth, sometimes it works but makes your videos too bright and glitchy)

The peak brightness is very high, at least for me. HDR gaming is a blast as well. Tested: Cold War, Death Stranding, Vanguard, RDR 2 (this game is just too gorgeous), Cyberpunk, AC: Origins and Valhalla. I spent hours calibrating Horizon Zero Dawn and Odyssey but they either look completely washed out or too bright, very unpleasant to look at. Not sure if it's the monitor or the HDR implementation with the game itself but I had no problems with the other games and the default HDR settings/values made them look better.

No portrait mode. Height adjustment is great. G-Sync works as intended, for anyone who plays on android emulators, G-Sync module can effectively reduce the stutter (Bluestacks)

There is noticeable IPS glow and dark scenes are not really dark and there maybe a faint glow, as expected from IPS displays.

Setting up:
If you get this monitor, make sure to set Response Time in OSD to Normal instead of Fast/Fastest which has overshoot. Local Dimming to Normal/Aggressive, Off if the constant switching bothers you. Install Ultrawidify extension for your browser to view YouTube videos (and some other sites) without black borders. Download and apply the color profile calibrated for this monitor from rtings.com.

EDIT: After a day of testing I found 2 stuck pixels in the corner of the screen, both of them green only when viewing black/grey screen but it's not that apparent and is very minute unless closely inspected, otherwise looks like a speck of dust. Managed to fix it with jscreenfix but at this price point I expect excellent quality control.

If G-Sync or HDR is not for you, go for 34GN850-B and save yourself some money.

May be it's the refresh rate, but I don't seem to get screen fatigued anymore since switching to this monitor. Also, its aspect ratio has dramatically improved my productivity.

I've not used it for gaming yet, so I can't comment on that now.

The LG 34GP950G-B is a fantastic ultrawide gaming monitor that caters to both gaming enthusiasts and creative professionals. Let’s dive into the details:

Pros:
1. Outstanding Response Time: Whether you’re gaming at the maximum refresh rate or even at 60Hz, this monitor delivers impressive responsiveness.
2. Low Input Lag: Say goodbye to input lag frustrations. The LG 34GP950G-B ensures a snappy gaming experience.
3. Native G-SYNC Support: NVIDIA users will appreciate the seamless variable refresh rate technology.
4. Large, High-Resolution Ultrawide Screen: Immerse yourself in games with the expansive 34-inch display.
5. Wide Viewing Angles: Perfect for co-op gaming or sharing your screen.

Cons:
1. Bad Local Dimming: The local dimming feature falls short of expectations.
2. Sub-Par Contrast: Dark scenes might lack depth due to the inherent limitations of IPS panels.

Verdict:
The LG 34GP950G-B strikes a balance between gaming performance and image quality. While it doesn’t stand out dramatically from the competition, it’s a solid choice for those seeking a smooth and responsive gaming experience. Plus, its accurate colors and superb gradient handling make it a winner for media creation and office tasks as well.

4.0 out of 5 stars Early review after one day with this monitor
Reviewed in the United States on December 17, 2023

After unboxing and setting up this monitor, I am happy with it so far. However, there are a few things I would like to address.

The first is that it has an external power brick. I hate external power bricks. I am always paranoid about having something generating heat laying around. Usually it's due to reducing heat inside the monitor and keeping the unit thinner. That doesn't seem to be the case here. This is the thickest 34 inch ultrawide I've ever owned and it's the only one with an external brick. This is why I took off a star but it's a pure preference thing. To each their own.

I picked up this monitor on sale at $699 USD. For that price, I feel it is a somewhat acceptable price. I would never pay the full price of $1,200 for this.

Second, the color accuracy is quite good. I was actually surprised how good the picture quality looks on this monitor. I always buy 1440p monitors though I tend to cap my spending at around $400. I'm glad I spent the extra for this.

Finally, as far as the HDR is concerned, I've seen a lot of reviews here and on other sites complaining about HDR quality. This display is not HDR10 or HDR 10+. It is HDR 600. There is a difference. You cannot expect the same quality out products with difference certifications. I however, find that HDR on this unit to be fairly acceptable. Obviously the colors become more washed out but that is partially due to SDR oversaturating the colors in the first place. One thing that makes HDR on pretty much any monitor better, is downloading Windows HDR Calibration tool from the store and running it. It will make a bit of difference on any monitor that is higher than HDR 400. It isn't a god send and it isn't the medicine to cure all ills, but it's definitely better.

If I have any issues in the future, I'll be sure to update this review.

2 month update: This monitor still is performing great. However, even though it is visually good, I have a KTC monitor that I purchased for $250 on sale that has far better colors than this does. Don’t get me wrong. This is a very good monitor and don’t regret my purchase. I just find that the blacks aren’t as deep and yellows and sunlight aren’t as vibrant as they are on my other monitor. Sunlight in photos and backgrounds appear more whitewashed. I really wouldn’t have noticed it had I not compared them side by side though. Unfortunately what is seen cannot be unseen. Oh and they are both nano IPS panels.

Still a great monitor and my primary.

1.0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY THIS MONITOR. MAC USERS BEWARE!
Reviewed in the United States on July 18, 2023

PROS:

1. DCI P3 98%.
2. IPS Nano Panel - IPS Nano is the latest technology. Better than IPS. Super rich colors.
3. Super Gaming options.
4. 600 HDR
5. 56 Local Dimming Zones. Decent Black Levels.
6. Dedicated Sync Ultimate Module for Nvidia gamers
7. Build is Okay.
8. RGB lighting option in rear good, if it works!

CONS - This will blow your mind:

1. No Factory Calibration. Out of the box Severe Green Tint.
2. No USB-C Connectivity.
3. Only 2 Ports - Comes with 1 HDMI Input and 1 Display Port. Monitors that are one third the price of this monitor come with multiple connectivity ports. Are you kidding LG?
4. NO HDMI 2.1 - Comes with single HDMI 2.0.
5. HDMI port only supports 8-bit color. If you need 10-bit color, you will need to use the Display Port.
6. Buggy LG Onscreen Controls application for MACOS. Sometimes hangs and consumes too much CPU. Also, LG Onscreen controls for Mac version does not have any Monitor settings options you can change. The same software for Windows has ton of extra options (like brightness and contrast changing, firmware update etc). The only thing you can do with this Mac version of software is Screen Area Split customizations.
7. Monitor Firmware cannot be updated. There is no option to update the firmware. The firmware version is not even listed in the settings menu. So, you do not know which firmware it is running.
8. No Swivel support in Stand - Stand support only Height and Tilt Adjustments
9. Limited MacOS compatibility - Text DPI cannot be customized in MACOS Ventura.
10. RGB Lighting Cannot be customized for MAC-OS Users - LG Ultrawide Control Center app is needed for customizing the RGB Colors. Unfortunately, LG makes this app only for Windows OS.
11. Severe Color Banding in HDR - Selecting any refresh rate above 60HZ when HDR is ON gives very bad Color Banding.
12. No Dual Controller Support.
13. This monitor does not support Custom ICC profiles in GAMER Mode. So your custom color calibrated profiles will not be recognized in Gamer Mode.
14. If you choose SRGB mode, most of the color adjustment settings (GAMMA, COLOR TEMP, RGB, Six Color) will be automatically disabled. Only two options you can change in SRGB mode is Brightness/ Contrast and Local dimming.

Some other issues with my Purchase:

I bought this New 34-inch 34GP950G-B monitor ships and sold by Amazon.

There are two issues with Monitor.

1. I was sent a Used item. There are scratches and hand marks all over the monitor.
2. The monitor is defective since the RGB button on the monitor does nothing and the RGB lighting does not work on the back of the monitor.

Problem with Replacing the monitor:
There is no option to Replace the item. I see only a Return option. I want a replacement and not a Return. I do not want to return and place a new order since I have purchased it using my Amazon Store card and it does not have enough credit left over to place a new order and I cannot wait until the return is complete for refund to appear on the Amazon Store card because the Promotion Deal will go away by then.

So, I called Amazon Customer support and asked for a replacement. Even the agent did not have the option to issue a replacement and transferred to a separate team. The lady on that team kept me on hold and disappeared and I had to finally drop after waiting for almost 1hr. I called second time on a different day and was transferred again to this team which never picked up the call.

Poor support from Amazon. I am stuck with the defective used monitor.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Ultrawide Gaming and Productivity Monitor
Reviewed in the United States on July 8, 2023

After a long search for the ideal monitor that caters to both productivity and gaming needs, I finally found my match with the LG 34GP950 Ultrawide Gaming Monitor. Upgrading from a 27-inch 16:9 display, this monitor has exceeded my expectations and resolved my struggle perfectly.
Firstly, the size of this monitor is a game-changer. With a height comparable to my previous 27-inch monitors, it offers a perfect balance between screen real estate and comfort. I found that larger 32-inch monitors were too tall for my liking, so this 34-inch ultrawide was a pleasant discovery.
Despite initial concerns about the curved aspect, it turned out to be a non-issue. The curvature is subtle and adds to the overall immersive experience without causing any distortion or discomfort. Whether for work, school, or programming, the screen real estate is a dream, allowing me to fit a lot of content comfortably.
Gaming on this monitor has been a joy. Paired with my Founders Edition 3080ti, I have encountered no issues, and the full 180Hz refresh rate with overdrive brings out the best in fast-paced games. The picture quality is excellent, and movies feel incredibly immersive.
While the new Alienware OLED monitor may be a top competitor, the significant price difference of $500 cannot be ignored. In terms of 34-inch ultrawide gaming monitors, there is simply no competition for the LG 34GP950.
The monitor's backlighting is amazing, and I love the customization options available. It's VESA compatible, allowing for easy mounting, and surprisingly lightweight for its size.
Lastly, LG's customer service has been great, offering prompt and helpful assistance whenever needed.
TL;DR
The LG 34GP950 Ultrawide Gaming Monitor is the perfect blend of productivity and gaming capabilities. With its exceptional display, immersive experience, customizable backlighting, VESA compatibility, and great customer service, it stands out as a top choice. If you're in the market for a reliable and feature-rich 34-inch ultrawide monitor, look no further.

3.0 out of 5 stars Thin Blue Vertical Line on Brand New Monitor
Reviewed in the United States on January 7, 2024

Things I love: Brand new gaming monitors.

Things I don't love: Brand new gaming monitors that have defective screens out of the box.

I wanted to upgrade my monitor and my partner had owned a previous iteration of this monitor. They strongly recommended it, so I placed the order for it. Set up was super easy and the movable monitor stand clicked into place very easily. I booted this baby up and immediately saw there was a thin blue line on the left side of the screen. I did some Googling and answered ranged from "bad display cable" to "bad monitor." I swapped out the provided display port cable with the provided HDMI cable. I even tried checking on both my mac and pc to see if it was a graphics card issue. None of that. I debated whether I could live with it, but just couldn't choke it for a monitor that cost hundreds of dollars.

For what it's worth, barring the blue line issue, the color looks great the screen is super responsive.

I've initiated the return process and will update this review once I receive the replacement monitor.

UPDATE 1/23/2024:

Alright my friends. I got a replacement monitor. It was pretty straightforward to get it returned to the company (which is actually Beach Co or something)? They were pleasant to work with and got my refund issued in about a week.

Packaging:

I admittedly was a little weirded out because when the second package showed up, I immediately noticed some differences between packaging in this first box and packaging in the previous box. Whereas the provided cables had been stored in a separate carboard box previously and were black and red fabric cables, these cable were kind of just tossed in a bag and were black rubber cables. Both this monitor and the previous monitor were allegedly new, so that was a little suss, but at this point I cared more whether the monitor worked or not.

The new monitor has not shown any lines, so that's exciting.

Performance:

I have hooked this monitor up to both my 2017 Razer 15 personal laptop and my 2023 Macbook Pro work laptop. For both laptops, I used a CalDigit TS3+ dock to connect the laptop to the monitor.

The monitor works great with the PC laptop. Colors are beautiful and it's been a delight playing various games on steam.

As for the Macbook... things are a little weird. I pretty frequently switch around windows on my work laptop, so I was surprised to stumble across a ghosting/burn in issue when using the monitor with my mac book. It seems to be particularly bad with darker colors (as a dark mode person, this is unfortunate) and when windows are in full screen mode. I had Slack pulled up for maybe 5 minutes and, when I switched to a different screen, I noticed the lower left hand corner of the Slack window had burned in. Switching to a window with a white window doesn't show it, but the second I switch back to another window with a dark background, the ghost is there. After turning the monitor off for the day yesterday and coming back in this morning, the ghost is gone, but I have some major anxiety about leaving ANY window on too long when using my mac.

Also, even though this product page and the analogous product page on the LG website SAYS there is a speaker on this monitor, there is absolutely NOT a speaker, so don't drive yourself crazy trying to get that to work like I did.

TL;DR After issues with the first monitor, the new one works great with my PC laptop. It's a little janky when paired with a MacBook Pro, but maybe some screen optimization could be done? DOES NOT HAVE A BUILT IN SPEAKER LIKE PRODUCT PAGE SAYS.
