Pretty Solid 29" Monitor, but..

Pretty Solid 29" Monitor, but..
Pros:- Cheap.- 75hz, which actually makes a much bigger difference than I thought it would. My eyes love it.- Essentially exact same size as a 24 inch monitor + the extra side room. This could be a con for some, but I like it.- 1080p still looks great at this size, but I wouldn't go any larger.- Flat, (I hate curved monitors) non glossy, and has VESA compatibility. All things I needed.- Has lots of customization, and an easy to use joystick button- Built in speakers, but let's be honest, nobody cares about those.- Starts up quick. 3 seconds.- Very few applications/games do NOT support 21:9 anymore.Cons:- The Black point/viewing angle can be pretty bad if you aren't pretty much directly facing it, even though it is IPS. I was almost tempted to return it for this reason alone, but after mounting it the best I could, it hasnt been as big of an issue that I had feared.- For whatever reason it didn't recognize my Display port to HDMI cable (Which I was previously using) and caused me quite I bit of frustration when I was setting it up. I had to just use a regular HDMI to HDMI.- Has an HDR mode that gets activated in some games because they go fullscreen, which I'm sure can be configured, but I've been brutally flashbanged multiple times by the brightness suddenly being cranked higher than the lumen output of our sun. Not pleasant.I'm a very picky person when it comes to tech purchases, but in spite of some of the cons, I still think its a pretty solid monitor for the price, and I will be keeping it.

I needed a second monitor to work on my graduate research from home, and ultrawide was the go-to for productivity with two more side-to-side windows within the same screen. This one was* affordable and served me well.

My pros and cons after 1.5 years using it:
- WORK: perfect aspect ratio for multi-window workflows; *as a second monitor* the screen size and resolution is enough for two side-to-side applications and still have enough real-estate on each to be productive, but probably too cramped to do so as a main monitor (I would totally go two regular 1080p or one 1440p ultrawide for an effective main monitor side-to-side workflow); this is also the PERFECT size and resolution for a vertical coding monitor (with a 3rd party vesa mount).
- PHOTOGRAPHY: Good colour accuracy but poor brightness (as an amateur photographer I doublecheck my edits on my phone, and while this monitor nails the colour accuracy out-of-the-box, you can't really edit on it since even at brightest setting the picture still looks like @20% brightness on the iPhone).
- GAMING: Good ultrawide 1080p 60Hz** performance for the cost, just not bright enough if your room receives direct sunlight.
- Good build quality.
* It was (past tense) affordable, because between APR 2021 and OCT 2022 the price went up by a whopping 48%. At the price it is now, just bite the bullet and go for a 34-inch 144Hz ultrawide 1440p panel at just 2x the price of this one (on sale and not IPS, but still)
** 60Hz because it DOES NOT support 75Hz at its native resolution. I searched around because the only refresh rate available in Windows is 60Hz, and apparently you can only reach 75Hz if you downscale the resolution... yeah... eyeroll.

Hope this helps.

I've had this monitor for a couple of months now and am very happy with it. You definitely notice the extra real estate in all your applications. It's a step up from a regular 1080p monitor. I use it mainly for gaming and the refresh rate as well as the resolution and response time are excellent. I play mainly strategy/rst and some fps games. The monitor works well in all these games. The only issue I had was with the HDMI output. The monitor didn't work well with the included HDMI cable on my Radeon RX580 graphics card. I had to buy a display port cable which immediately cleared things up. So keep that in mind. I highly recommend this monitor and shipping with amazon was no problem.

This monitor is really good for the price, and I would absolutely recommend this to anyone who is entering the ultrawide market, or needs a cheap ultrawide monitor.

Things I like about this monitor: The colours are amazing for this price, and the IPS technology really helps with the viewing angles. No matter where you look at it, the colours are clearly visible and vivid. The build quality is good, and it was actually able to stay intact when my desk holding the monitor collapsed. The unusual aspect ratio of 21:9 was much better than the standard 16:9, and was much appreciated when I occasionally watched a 21:9 video, or when playing games that supported this aspect ratio, as it offers a larger field of view, which can be an advantage to some players. The bezels are pretty small in my opinion, which made a fairly immersive experience.

Things I don’t like about this monitor: The first thing that I didn’t like about this monitor was actually the first thing I noticed when I unboxed it, which was the vertical height. The vertical height is a bit too small for my liking, especially when compared to other 25” monitors on the market. I wasn’t able to find the vertical height anywhere on the internet, so I’ll tell you the measurements now. It is 11” including the top and bottom bezels, or about 9” not including the bezels. I actually use this monitor with another normal 16:9 21.9” monitor, and even though my second monitor is smaller, it has a larger vertical height. However, after about a week, I got used to it. Another thing that I didn’t like about this monitor is that the bezels are at the same level as the display itself, so if you put this monitor face down on a rough surface (for whatever reason), it could get scratched. I also feel that the plastic on the back of the monitor can be easily scratched, so keep it away from rough surfaces. Unfortunately I used this monitor with a separate monitor arm, so I don’t know how well the included stand is. However, my second monitor that I purchased a year earlier used the same stand as this monitor, and it held up well. However, it is made of a shiny plastic, and scratches are clearly visible in certain light.

One thing I noticed while looking at other reviews is that some people claim that this monitor runs at 60hz max, or are simply to lazy to do research. To be clear, out of the box, it runs at 60hz. The monitor is able to be overclocked to 75hz, which I did through the Nvidia control panel. If you are unsure how to overclock a monitor, a simple google search on how to do so is all you need. The 75hz is really appreciated, and it’s too bad that some people don’t realize that monitor overclocking is a thing.

Overall, for the price, this monitor was surprisingly exactly what I expected. The build quality is acceptable, and the display is absolutely amazing for the price. Colours are represented well, and most of all, the aspect ratio makes media noticeably more immersive than 16:9. This was a great purchase, and I am satisfied with my experience. If you can put up with the small flaws this monitor has, I’m sure you will feel the same.

I found this here on Amazon Canada for $299. Two days before it was $275. If you find it with some sort of discount, get this monitor! An absolute steal for its quality! Love the picture quality and even the sound quality is pretty decent for built-in speakers which I didn't even know it had! 29" inches size is a pretty good sweet spot for someone who's looking for an ultra-wide but also owns a small desk like myself. Very happy with it and kinda glad I didn't go for a 34" inches cause it would've been too much.

I rated this a 3-star for gaming cause I haven't been able to test it yet as I don't game on my computer.

This monitor is ideal for trying out the basic wide-screen format, also has some really nice built-in settings for use with specific content. The 'reader mode' is basically perfect for dealing with office content and the 'photo mode' is decent for beginning photographic work.

Great construction, picture and stand. This large 21:9 monitor is perfect for watching movies, but for office some may prefer a smaller 4K screen for about the same price. 34" is quite wide so you don't see everything at a glance and resolution is on the low side for this size, unless of course you install it far enough (and skip your glasses). That said it is sometimes quite useful to have 2 or 3 docs opened side by side. I use it as a second screen for my mac book pro and overall satisfied. When resolution really matters I move the window to the mac's retina display. Can't tell about gaming, not my thing, but for games supporting this aspect ratio it must be a blast!

5.0 out of 5 stars first one I got was faulty, but they paid for shipping and repairs

LG monitor.. the first one I got was faulty. Half of the screen didn't light up properly and I was very disappointed. Thankfully LG paid for shipping for me to send it to an electronics repair vendor and took care of everything. It took me an extra 2 weeks I believe to get it shipped out, repaired, and then sent back but once I had it I was very satisfied.
It's very nice for gaming since I paid about $185 for it around Black Friday (I don't know if I would pay $250 for it nowadays, could pay a little more and get something better), but for under $200 it is very good.
2560x1080 is a resolution that most games support these days, if a game doesn't support it there's a 9/10 chance that there's a fan made patch to get it working in 21:9. Otherwise it will just run in 16:9 with black bars.
The only major pain with ultrawide is trying to stream or record game footage, especially if you are constantly switching between games that run in 21:9 or 16:9. It's pretty inconvenient and I blame this on the game developers who haven't all adopted or accepted 21:9 Ultrawide in gaming. Dead by Daylight developers are notoriously bad, they used to support it but actively took it out of their game because they thought it was an "unfair advantage", which is just stupid. The Ultrawide aspect ratio barely gives you any extra real estate to help in a game, it is just way more immersive and enjoyable.
This monitor itself has HDR10 but the HDR implementation is so low and bad that it might as well not be there. Windows 10 also has HORRIBLE HDR support so getting it to run properly in games without the monitor flickering on and off constantly is kind of not worth the trouble. The only game I've gotten running and looking beautiful with HDR on this monitor is Monster Hunter: World. Sadly, I don't play that game much anymore and it isn't a huge difference (like my friend who has this monitor and convinced me to buy it thinks there is) but it's basically a novelty at this point. Maybe one day HDR will catch on because I'm sure it looks amazing having 10-bit color instead of 8-bit colors but until HDR monitors that are worthwhile are cheap, we are stuck in limbo right now.
This monitor has up to 75fps which is nice, I couldn't overclock it at all though sadly. It has G-sync/freesync support up to 75fps, or at least the G-sync display is on screen even when I play at 75fps. I don't really notice much of a different with freesync turned on, but I guess it's nice that it's there. I run my games with Nvidia Fast Sync and RivaTuner turned on to cap the framerate at 75fps for no screen tearing.
Also this monitor is an IPS display so that is nice, the IPS glow isn't bad at all. I usually run f.lux to lower the blue light levels at night anyway so it doesn't really matter to me.
So yeah, overall a nice monitor for the price. If I've learned anything it's that I will definitely be buying an LG monitor next time if they offer an Ultrawide at 100fps with IPS and freesync at like 1080p or 1440p that was around 32 inches instead of 29 inches? I would be very happy.
This monitor is basically just a normal 23inch monitor but they can get away calling it a 29 inch monitor because it's ultrawide. It's the same size as a normal 16:9 23inch monitor and it feels small, but you get used to it after a while. I want a 32 inch ultrawide or 34 inch with 1080p, or 1440p and up to 100 or 120 fps that's IPS with 5ms response time. If I had that monitor, I would be happy but right now something like that I think costs at least $500-600. LG brand is good, they treated me like a valued customer, even for a cheaper monitor, I will be sticking with them I think.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unbeatable for that price, but make sure it is what you need
Reviewed in the United States on November 1, 2019

This is a great little monitor when used for the right purpose. I would list its shortcomings here so you can make a decision for yourself if this monitor is right for you.
First, the good:
1. Picture and colors are beautiful and bright
2. It is an ultra-wide monitor, so can fit in places where height is an issue (like under a shelf)
3. No heavy power brick, just an oversized outlet plug (I love power bricks, said no-one ever)
4. Quite a few settings for this price range, including game mode (low latency) brightness, contrast etc.
There is absolutely nothing bad about this monitor (therefore my 5-star ratings) but some things you should be aware of before buying:
1. 25" Ultra-wide is not very large, it has the height of a 22" 16:9 monitor, so if 22" sounds small to you, you might need to look at a larger screen.
2. This monitor has NO SPEAKERS. I was a bit surprised by that. Granted for good game sound you will not want to use monitor speakers, but it is nice to have for auxiliary sounds, especially if your main output is a headset.
You can connect a stereo speaker or a headset to the back of the monitor, but for good sound quality you probably don't want to do that.
3. Some assembly required, not a big deal but need to be careful not to damage the monitor while doing that. After the stand is hooked angle can be controlled about 10 deg up or down, no control for monitor height.
4. Monitor has decent amount of menus and they are all controlled with one flimsy button which is also used as on/off button. This means a lot of clicking and pushing on one small button, hopefully it holds.
5. The only inputs are 2 HDMI slots and power. That's it. If you need a monitor that will switch between multiple sources you should probably look at something with a bit more control.
6. Ultra-wide mode on game console (such as PS4). It will work! however image will be stretched as the PS4 does not support u-wide mode. You can choose between stretch mode or original mode (letterbox)
Overall I recommend it for use in smaller rooms for small PC or a console. Rule of thumb- if your gaming rig is worth more than $1000, you probably want to honor it with a larger, better monitor.
