Decent!

Decent!
I’m not exactly an expert, but upgrading from a 23" 1080p Samsung monitor to this one has been a noticeable improvement! However, I was a bit disappointed by the absence of an anti-reflective coating. It reflects daylight and the light from my small desk lamp almost twice as much as my previous monitor, which was only $130. Aside from that, I’m quite pleased with my purchase. I would recommend buying it on sale, though, as LG monitors tend to be somewhat overpriced. The stand is robust, which is great, but it’s also inconveniently heavy. What I mean is, there’s heavy, and then there’s heavy—the monitor is difficult to move because there isn’t a safe place to grip it during relocation. But ultimately, that’s a plus because once it’s positioned, it stays put and won’t tip over.

Gorgeous picture quality while still retaining snappy response times. For a primarly MMORPG player, there is no better monitor in this price category. 1440p gives you a large overview of the scenery/battle area, while the IPS keeps that scenery looking gorgeous instead of washed out. Meanwhile the response times are still good enough for most FPS gamers, and the 144 HZ refresh rate is also good enough for most gamers as well (hugely noticeable difference from 60fps). My only caveat is, now that I've gone from 60-144 HZ, I'm thinking if I one day change monitor in future, I think 240 HZ might very well be worth it. However, I enjoy my picture quality too much to switch to an TN panel just yet. Regarding choosing a 1440p monitor over a 1080p monitor, keep in mind that older graphics cards may struggle to give high FPS on a beefy 1440p monitor. However, the latest generation models (2060-2080, or 1070-1080 NVIDIA cards) should have no problems running 100+ fps on most games in high or ultra high graphics for this monitor.

The stand is quite nice to use. Super adjustable. Looks decent. Does what it needs to do lol.

You've probably been asking yourself for days, TN or IPS panel? And probably you just can't make up your mind. And after doing a lot of my own research, I finally crystalized my thinking on it, and perhaps what I concluded can help you too.

Your choice will depend on the type of gaming you prefer. If you are a *primarily* FPS-gamer, I'd stay with mid to upper-range TN panels for now. Sure, the colors will be a little more washed out, but those super-low response times and input lag combined with 240HZ (or better) will be what you want. However, if you play a mix of FPS and adventure/mmorpg/other games, and/or you want to watch videos/pictures/etc and have them look amazing, this particular IPS panel is fantastic. The colors are undeniably better than TN panel with the performance coming startlingly close to that of a TN panel---perhaps close enough that only a professional FPS player might be able to tell the difference. And finally, if you don't play FPS at all, then this monitor is also suitable, though perhaps even more than what you need. (As a non-gamer, you might consider VGA for the most true-to-life color representations, though the response times/input lag make them not really that suitable for gaming).

Hope that helps.

Do recommend this monitor, though not to those on a budget. But I consider it worth the money I spent. If you are on the fence, try shopping for it around Black Friday/Cyber Monday and see if you can snap up a deal!

Picture shows new monitor in middle, 27''. On right is an old, 18.1'' alienware laptop screen for comparison. On left is meshify S2 computer case.

BEFORE BUYING: Make sure you get a graphic card for displayport 1.4 and a wire for displayport 1.4 if you try use the hdmi or use the cheap wire they give you is a waste of fps, It come well packed but the screen was very dirty like somebody tried to wash it very very bad but after i clean up it was perfect (not a big deal) For gaming is perfect but you have to adjust it, If you work on photography is not a screen for this because there a anti-flare on screen it make a small texture of grain film on the white, Color are pretty good amazing, IF YOU BUY THIS FOR GAMING 1440p (2k) at 144 fps KEEP IN MIND YOUR GRAPHIC CARD HAVE TO BE ABLE TO HANDLE THIS, a 3060 can handle it but not in ultra to AAA recent game, here setting:

Game mode: gamer 1
Game adjust: Adaptice-sync on, black stabilizier 55, response time:fast,
Picture adjust: brightness:80 (if over years it dimm you can raise it later), contrast: 70, sharpness 70, Gama: mode 2, Color temp custom, r/g/b 50 50 50, six color all 50, dfc: off,
Input list: Display port, aspect ratio: full wide, auto input switch:on
General: Smart energy saving: off, Display version 1.4 (i have 1.4 wire + gpu card), osd lock: off,
In window setting display make *change the size of text* to 125%

For movie: 10/10
For gaming: 10/10
For photoshop/editing: 3/10 (anti-flare grain + color too good)
View angle: very good

The text and little image are very very sharp it value the price very well, (299$ CAD)

EDIT 3 month later: I love it a lot, i want buy a 2nd one its sooo good. It also pretty good watching movie/streamer in dark place we can see stuff in the dark other monitor cant see without ruin setting. i fall in love with this monitor.

I've had the 27GL850 for about a month and it has been largely excellent, a massive improvement over my previous old Dell pack-in monitor. The panel is gorgeous, with excellent colour accuracy and viewing angles, and the build quality is top notch. After testing, my model came with no dead pixels and minimal IPS glow (although IPS glow varies panel to panel, so I may have just got lucky).

Performance-wise, this thing is the ultimate all-rounder for the price. While it is advertised as having a 1ms response time speed, this is only with the "Faster" overdrive mode turned on, which causes a lot of inverse ghosting. Keeping it in the "Fast" setting completely eliminates ghosting but reduces the response speed to around 4ms. This is still excellent, much faster than my gaming skills can take advantage of. Typically with an IPS panel like this one, you're sacrificing some reaction time performance you'd get with a typical TN panel that most gamers end up selecting. But the LG's 4ms response time is still pretty much unheard of for an IPS panel, and more than fast enough to keep up with its 144hz refresh rate. A hardcore gamer could go with an ultra-fast 1080p 240hz TN panel in this price bracket with a 1ms response time, but you'd be sacrificing a lot of colour accuracy and overall picture quality in order to do so, and the difference between 4ms and 1ms is pretty much imperceptible to 99% of people out there. It wouldn't be worth it.

It comes with plenty of handy features. The clickable joystick located on the bottom of the panel is MUCH easier to operate for navigating through the monitor's options menus then your typical buttons are. The menus themselves are easy to navigate, with several pre-set screen profiles to pick from, as well as two fully customizable profiles you can save. It has a black stabilizer feature that improves visibility in darker games as well as a customizable crosshair overlay for gamers with a slightly less than pure con . It is both FreeSync and G-Sync compatible (nice), has two HDMI ports, a DisplayPort 1.4 input, headphone jack, and dual USB 3.0 ports.

The stand is very solid. It's nice and heavy, the height adjustment is buttery smooth, and the screen can pivot 90° into portrait mode.

If I had to nitpick, there are two drawbacks to this panel. The first is that screen brightness is only 350 nits, and the contrast levels are 1000:1, which isn't going to touch a VA panel monitor. No VA monitor comes close to reaching this LG's performance however.

In conclusion, this is the best all-around monitor in it's price range by a pretty significant margin. It's well built, it has a gorgeous display, and runs as smooth as a good TN panel without sacrificing performance as a result.

The only competition really out there close to it in price is the Aurus AD27QD, which while brighter, doesn't have quite as good colours and a slower response time while currently being priced higher.

5.0 out of 5 stars Accurate color, plenty of input slots. Display port version needs to be set to1.2
Reviewed in the United States on February 23, 2023
Style: 27" QHD Nano IPS 1ms with 144HzPattern Name: MonitorVerified Purchase
You do need display port to fully take advantage of the capabilities of this monitor, however it comes with both a mid quality hdmi and display port cable so its ready to go out the box. A display port, 2 hdmi, and a dvi port are the slots available here, so plenty of room for other devices. It auto detects devices very well that are on too so no manual switching either. Very bright and clear colors at any brightness, I experience almost zero glare from a bright window behind me at full brightness. Even direct sunlight the glare is not too bad.

I experienced colors very slightly being off and slight ghosting out the box on initial set up using display port, however setting display port version to 1.2 instead of 1.4 fixed this issue. Another reviewer reported this issue also, not sure what is really changing here. Possibly the cord provided but not sure, this monitor cant use any of the features that DP version 1.4 has, so 1.2 is plenty adaquate. To set this its located deep in the settings somewhere, good luck.

The many settings are moderately confusing to navigate as some settings are only available on some modes with pleny of sub menus, however game modes allow the most settings and you can make it perfect as you see fit. The response time is very impressive, I turned it down to low response to 100% eliminate any ghosting or visual artifacts and it is still very fast. Blows my 8 year old LCD "gaming monitor" out the water in every metric. The software G sync works great with my RTX 2080 super, however the frame rate is 5-15 fps lower than it would be with conventional V sync. So if you are pushing the limits of your graphics card you may experience some studdering or delay. Above 75 fps the monitor was smooth and fast. If you cannot maintain 75+ fps at 1440p then I would not intend on using G sync or lower the graphics settings, as it is software G sync and does have some processing to do so the higher the average framerate the better. Doing full rgb colors reduced the max from 144hz to 120hz, but makes it look that much better. If I get into a game that my 2080 decimates I may change this back. I sucessfully overclocked to 165 hz without issues (set custom resolution in Nvidia control panel with a higher hz), however I dont see the need as its so smooth already at 144hz there is little difference going higher. My experience is it doesnt really look smoother than 144hz until you get into the 200s, which unfortunately this monitor cannot do. If you have a great graphics card that cant quite do 4K, get this monitor you wont regret it. Easily the best in this price range.

5.0 out of 5 stars The money is worth it for a LG monitor!
Reviewed in the United States on March 7, 2021
Style: 27" QHD IPS 1ms with 144HzPattern Name: MonitorVerified Purchase
The media could not be loaded.
This was worth every penny. I researched so many monitors. I wanted a 27in and a 144ghz. I looked at the PC part brands like MSI and gigabyte who often had dead pixel problems. I looked at ASUS and Acer and cheaper brands like AOC or Viotek. I also did research on LG screens and figured if phone companies and tv companies also use LG screens for their products than an LG monitor has to be a solid choice.

I also needed something with multiple ports as I work from home and game and have to have multiple computers plugged into one monitor. I also REALLY liked the stand that this comes with. The bottom of the feet are grippy so it won’t slide around easily or scratch up your desk. The height adjustment on this thing beats out every other competition. Not only is it so easy to move it up and down it can also be turned vertically! My boyfriend bought the same monitor after me and the weird clip on handle in the back doesn’t fit properly but it’s not even needed to be used. You just very slightly squeeze is and it’ll lower. Otherwise going up you just lift the screen like magic. So easy a baby could do it and it’s also a fun brag factor when your friends come over!

We have a 3070 GPU so we wanted a monitor that would go hand in hand with it. So far it’s been wonderful. You can really change the settings on it just through the monitor but you can even further tweak everything through the NVIDIA g-sync which is FANTASTIC!

!!!!!BE AWARE!!!!! I do however want to !!WARN!! Everyone about one thing: we downloaded the LG driver for the monitor (which basically does the same thing the actual monitor button does but we were curious....) but we turned on HDR through that and it basically crashed our computers. Everytime I opened a game in full screen it would completely freeze my PC and I would have to restart it. I uninstalled the program and it still was crashing. (My bf uninstalled his and it worked fine after) I was freaking out. I went into the monitor button settings and just reset settings to factory and it fixed everything. So I’m not exactly sure what the issue is with that drive but I would NOT download it! I since have turned HDR on again through the monitor button settings and it’s fine so it was something with that driver.

A 1440p and 144ghz monitor looks amazing we had fun watching YouTube videos to see the detail and colors of it. However the Home Screen was so tiny everything from the menu bar to the programs on the desktop were super tiny. Down to the font size on browsers so I adjusted my settings to make everything 110% zoom which makes my monitor look “normal” again. Otherwise those are the only settings I’ve really had to change on this monitor. I know other non ISP monitors you have to change color shading and everything to make it look good which is why I went with an IPS monitor. Also leave it on fast mode dont move it to faster ever unless you like shadowing.

So far I have zero complaints. No dead pixels. Amazing build quality. Monitor feels solid and light. Easy to adjust height and vertical. Base is ingenuity. The size is perfect. It’s not curved. The settings in the monitor buttons are perfect and plenty. G-sync is fantastic. HDR looks amazing freesync works great.

I also want to mention in game mode there’s a reader option which makes working from home even better. Not sure what the effect does specifically but it makes words softer on the eyes if your reading or working from home which I LOVE!

Although the stand it comes with is amazing: what gamer doesn’t get a VIVO mount? This stand slides off really easy in order to mount it I was surprised again LG out did themselves on this monitor! Buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars The money is worth it for a LG monitor!
