I recently invested into a larger telephoto lens, and needed a monopod to stabilize it while I am shooting. I chose this one because it was pretty cheap, was the smallest collapsed size I saw, and looked decent.
I am pretty happy! It is fairly stable, and collapses small enough to fit inside my photography backpack.
The only think I don't like are the twister locks, I should have chosen a monopod with clip locks like my tripod - I now know I much prefer that type.

Monopods as Leg Extensions for Hi-Hats
I had a Half-ball Hi-hat tripod for low level macro, but had to carry it as well as a standard tripod. I wanted a combination of the two. The hi-hat had 3/8" threads on the feet for interchangeable feet, so I purchased three koolehaoda 6-Section Monopods because they are lightweight, inexpensive, and have reversible mounting screws that are 1/4" and 3/8" on opposite ends (no adapters to loose). I don't extend the bottom section as it is quite thin, and my camera is at 58". Fully extended the working height is 68", but there may be more vibration. They work very well as monopods too.
