I'm a Google Smart Home customer, and of all of the 50+ devices in my network, the Kasa products are the most reliable and simple to integrate.
I've even found it necessary to reset devices to factory due to router replacements, and the Kasa stuff is again the easiest to work with.
This may look like a simple smart switch, but it's a great dimmer with an excellent automated calibration upon installation. It's also really flexible for scheduling, including knowing exactly when sunrise and sunset occur. Very helpful for long term program applications!
I've personally compared this to couple of other brands: Sinopé, Leviton and Globe,
But the TP link are so far the best for me. Surprisingly, Leviton came last contender
Tp-Link hs200 and hs220
Pro
Great tactile feel when you press the switch
Good Price point, this won't ruin you
Wifi is very stable and very few/almost never any dropped connections (check your router if you do have connections issues with those!
The newest version is now slimmer
Cons:
WiFi only (if you install a ton of those, this may cause your router to not like you)
Globe light Switches and light dimmers
Pro:
WiFi connectivity good
Price.... that's it
Cons:
Bad tactile feel (feels like cheap plastic)
Wifi only
Dimmer is more difficult to set precisely
Depending on your lights, dimmer could be still on without you noticing
The slide switch at the bottom makes elderly people this this is an off switch for the light, when really it disconnect everything from the network too, making you automation useless 😒
Globe suite could use a ergonomic rework...
And the list goes on
Sinope Zigbee smart switch (3way)
Pro:
Best of the best ! (But...)
Great, great build quality, best way to add 3way switch without always needs of a 3rd wire conductor, (believe me, huge plus)
Good tactile feel
Extremely reliable
Zigbee!!!! Your router will love you (less strain on the Wifi signal)
Cons:
As all things Zigbee, high price
Leviton smart dimmer (Wifi version)
Pro:
Medium to Ok tactile feel (will feel like a normal, "dumb" dimmer switch)
... that's it
Cons:
Wifi signal drops everyday since new, no matter the network configuration and regardless of how good of a router you have, nor how far it is from it
The reset to default sequence can easily be confused with normal operation of other brands dimmers, which forces you to go back to the app every single time
Price point still way to high for a Wifi device, and can cost you up to 5 to 7 time more that a good TP link switch 👍
All in all, TP link come on top, can't wait to try their matter version

TL;DR – Simple to use and rock solid performance, use the app anywhere, better than any timer from the hardware store.
Look in the Apple and Google app stores for the “KASA” app. I’ve used both and they simply work without any tweaking. To use KASA you will need to create an account if you want to use the app remotely, no need if you only want to use it within your Wi-Fi range. You can do this right through the app.
If your already using Amazons Alexa you’ll be happy to know that this device can be controlled through Alexa.
A nice feature. When switched off there's a muted white LED that’s visible in the dark.
The switch has three buttons, the big main light switch and two smaller buttons located directly beneath. To turn on the switch manually, depress and release the big switch which looks just like a standard light switch. It also fits into a standard single switch electrical box, it will also work in a dual or triple switch box as a standard modern cover plate made for the wide rocker type switches will fit perfectly over the portion around the main switch.
I had looked at some of the non Wi-Fi options, the light switches that use a proprietary remote that's similar to what you would use with a TV but they all have limited range, maybe 30 meters if you’re lucky. The TP-Link system using the KASA app allows me to control these smart devices from around the house or when traveling through another province or country. Once you have connectivity to the internet it doesn't matter where you are, you can control these devices.
One aspect that really appeals to me is the ability to set up schedules for the devices to turn on and off. If you already use timers to turn on lights while your away you'll appreciate that the app allows you to do that plus configure (this part isn't techy) the lights to come on randomly between certain hours which really makes it appear that someone is in the home. You can set up several schedules if you like. Any burglar with at least three grey cells knows to watch a home for a few days to see if there is a repeated sequence when lights come on. Once they discover the routine its actually the green light they need, they now know no one is at home since very few people always turn on the lights in certain rooms at the same time every night. This ability to set random schedules is a big bonus and really makes it appear that someone is in the home.
There's one thing you should know here, this is not like the smart plugs when it comes to installation. Those you simply plug into the AC outlet and then plug in whatever it is you want to turn on remotely. This device completely replaces a wall switch which means you need to wire it correctly so I strongly suggest you hire an electrician or someone who has the skills to handle this if you aren’t qualified.
Once the switch is installed the setup and connectivity portion is easy, it’s all done through the app and by pressing the little button to the left side (Reset) beneath the main switch. Again, this part is non-technical, simply follow the steps outlined in the very easy to follow instruction sheet which walks you through the 3 minute process. After that it’s easier to set up schedules and other features than entering a friends contact info in your phone.
Comes with all the hardware needed to install in a standard electrical box including wire nuts Marretts).

I love their well-designed hardware - solid construction and sleek, modern, clean lines that fit well with our modern home. The devices were also highly reliable, working from the start and never failing in their steady, dependable operation.
And especially I love their mobile app, intuitive installation guide and ongoing feature enhancements, seamless integration with Alexa, etc. As the CEO of an IoT software company, I even asked my development teams to look at Kasa as an example of what we should do for our industrial line of products. In my view, the Kasa installation guides are a best practice which our company had to adopt as well!
Normally I'd stop there and say, "Great job Kasa!" and "Don't hesitate for a second if you're thinking of committing to Kasa for your own home!"
But recently I discovered another side of Kasa / TP-Link - and I just had to finally lean in and write this customer review. I've never had an issues with a Kasa device until installing this motion sensor switch. I was looking for a way to automatically turn off our bathroom fans to save on electricity costs. Motors suck up lots of electricity and our teenage boys don't think of turning things off, ever. :-) So I hoped that Kasa would ride to the rescue. But alas, I'll admit, I was disappointed. For some reason the fans wouldn't shut off using the motion sensing rules - which are easy to program by the way.
Finally, for the first time, I decided I had to contact Kasa / TP-Link customer service for support. And I didn't know what to expect. It's not like many tech firms excel in customer support. But that's when I saw a whole new side of the company... I am now not just a huge fan of their devices and software, but also of their friendly, effective and dedicated people!!!
Thanks so much to Betsy and Tyrone (hope it's okay to use your support names!) My emails were responded too quickly. Their suggestions for fixes were clear and actionable. And when it turned out that the normal fixes didn't work, Tyler came through by getting TP-Link's engineering team on the case... Another highlight of my experience I just have to share!
It turns out the devices needed a firmware update, but that hadn't yet been released for general availability. So, Tyrone was able to work with his engineers to provide a product firmware update to address our motion sensor problem - and it worked. He was always responsive, even proactive, following up to see if things had been corrected! He was very clear in his communications, and focused on getting this working with the full resources of TP-Link behind him.
That, my Amazon friends and fellow Kasa customers - or future customers - is just magic. It's one thing to buy products that always work ... And it's a whole new level to see a company so dedicated to customer satisfaction that they go the extra mile to fix a problem when inevitably, a problem does arise.
My commitment to Kasa / TP-Link went up several and eventually we'll have every switch and plug in home updated to Kasa so impressed I was by how they handled our firmware fix and update.
THANK YOU Tyrone and Betsy - YOU ROCK!!
Sam

The angle of motion sensing is not as wide as i had hoped - i was thinking it would be closer to 180, but it’s quite a bit narrower. When i’m to the side of the switch or even a bit closer to the middle, it doesn’t see me. Because of that, i’ve had to set it to turn off after a longer amount of time so it doesn’t turn off while i’m in the room but out of its angle (and hope that i’ll move into range before that time is up - it’s my kitchen, so chances are good).
Second slight disappointment is that the actual manual switch/button to turn it on or off feels a little kludgy - only the very bottom of the switch toggles, even though the entire lower portion of the switch is a single piece. The very middle of the switch does not depress at all. It’s not very intuitive, and the click action is a bit ‘mushy’ and inconsistent, not a solid satisfying click like the regular kasa rocker or a regular non-smart switch.
All in all though, it does what i need it to do well enough so far - saves me a bit of electricity when i forget to turn it off, turns on automatically when i’m walking towards it. Has relatively good flexibility options such as making it manual only, or setting it to motion sense only during certain times. Fit and finish is on par with the kasa switches i have (which is to say pretty good). One thing to note was that it had a harder time connecting to my network than all the other kasa switches i’ve setup - had to restart the switch a couple times to finally connect to it and then be able to join my network, hopefully just a fluke.
