Kafka wants to clean up kaiju, but not literally! Will a sudden metamorphosis stand in the way of his dream?

With the highest kaiju-emergence rates in the world, Japan is no stranger to attack by deadly monsters. Enter the Japan Defense Force, a military organization tasked with the neutralization of kaiju. Kafka Hibino, a kaiju-corpse cleanup man, has always dreamed of joining the force. But when he gets another shot at achieving his childhood dream, he undergoes an unexpected transformation. How can he fight kaiju now that he’s become one himself?!

Kafka hopes to one day keep his pact with his childhood friend Mina to join the Japan Defense Force and fight by her side. But while she’s out neutralizing kaiju as Third Division captain, Kafka is stuck cleaning up the aftermath of her battles. When a sudden rule change makes Kafka eligible for the Defense Force, he decides to try out for the squad once more. There’s just one problem—he’s made the Defense Force’s neutralization list under the code name Kaiju No. 8.

Good artwork, good character introductions and great designs for the monsters. Love it so far.
Finally, a middle aged main character in a shounen.

Honestly this book seemed like an aot ripoff when I read the description, and it does have similar themes, it’s kind of like a cross between aot and bnha, it’s got the vibes. After reading the first volume I went ahead and pre ordered v2 and 3. It’s an interesting premise and has that classic shounen feeing, I sense this is going to become a very popular series

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than I expected...

I'm not typically into giant monsters, but "Kaiju No. 8" is different. It has a blend of comedy that isn't typically seen in these stories. That, along with the solid character development, has made it so much better than I expected it to be.

I am really enjoying this so far. If monster hunting, action, and comedy sound good to you, then I highly recommend "Kaiju No. 8". It's definitely worth reading.

Para quem busca leituras alternativas referente aos grandes monstros que habitam o mundo nipônico, vale a pena.
Interessante para uma diversificada em que o protagonista de torna um anti herói, transformando naquilo que lutou para combater
