This frame comes in very nice packaging which is important in this case if you’re looking to get one of these as a present. For us, it will be in the living room area.
First thing that I was wondering if this is something requiring charging or is on permanent power supply. Of course, it’s on the power supply therefore you get a standard small plug to provide power. It’s same specs as for phone, 5V, 2 amps but the jack is 2.5 mm instead of USB.
Frame itself looks nice, modern with black edges. Glass is protected with nylon which when removed reveals a glossy display like with any tablet.
Booting up throws a weird message “never disconnect power when Frameo is running”, well honestly that made me wonder, what does that mean if there is an outage. I’m not putting this on UPS, LOL :-)
Anyways, after basic configuration and connecting it on WiFi - yeah, I added it to my isolated WiFi that can’t access my regular LAN, sorry, I have trust issues with all these IoT devices.
Quickly after the firmware update, the frame was ready, so I installed the Frameo app to my phone and tried a few photos.
Picture quality is really amazing. It’s also bright, I mean in all honesty, this is kinda’ tablet with a cheap CPU and very lightweight OS to run these basic operations with pictures, therefore display quality is prime priority here and I’m happy with what I’m seeing.
What is really surprising is the ability to share code of your frame with family members or friends and they can push pictures to your frame wherever they are, if they install a mobile app. This is totally amazing!
I’m so sorry that my grammy is not around anymore, this would be such a beautiful present for her and this ability to send pictures adds another layer of being connected with your loved ones.
Interface on the frame itself is USB and I was a bit disappointed to see it's an old microUSB these days but on a positive note, not sure if you need it at all. In addition to microUSB, there is also a microSD card slot which is very useful as you’ll likely want to extend memory when you fill built-in 32 gigs.
Actually this is one of the downsides that I found, you can’t delete photos from a phone app. To do that you need to use frame software, there is option “manage photos” where you can do clean up. I wish if you can do this from phone as it would be easier (and it wouldn't leave fingerprints on display)
What I liked?
* Picture quality, rich colors and good dynamics
* Brightens
* Ability to send pictures from phone
* Scheduled time-off / night mode
What I didn’t like?
* No light sensor, so picture will be bright in dim conditions (although you can adjust brightness manually)
* Using old microUSB
* No ability to manage photos from the phone app. (think about case you give it to your elderly family members, would they know how to clean up)
Conclusion: this is a very nice and amazing frame with very good picture quality. For price 69$ at a time of writing this is good value for money
