Hey... it's KD that you can quickly cook in the microwave. So far it's a win. The tricky thing is to make sure you are careful with how you cook them.
When you peel off the top, be careful in taking out the pack of sauce powder. There is white powder mixed in with the noodles, which is meant to combine with the water to give you the 'milk' needed. Sometimes the powder will collect on top of the sauce package, so don't inadvertantly spill it. Next, do *not* fill the cup to the ledge that is 1/2" below the top. Make sure you are in a well-sit area, and look on the SIDE of the cup. There is a line about halfway up the up that shows you how much water to put in. BE ACCURATE. If you fill past the line, you may end up with water overflowing the cup.
The cook time of 3.5 minutes is fine for 1000W, but with my 1100W a cook time of 3 minutes was sufficient. You don't want to overcook them, since it might boil off too much water and not leave you enough liquid for a nice sauce. When you cook the first time, watch the bubbles. If it seems like they are diminishing quickly, you're probably done. Worst case scenario is if you find yourself with too much liquid in the sauce, just let it stand, it will solidify a bit as it cools. I experimented, and found that I could do TWO cups at once if I doubled the time to 6 minutes. Again, this is in an 1100W oven. Don't just blindly set the timer. Make sure to check your power and adjust accordingly.
Recipe tip? If you are stuck at home, try ordering some Uncle Ben's Bistro Express Creamy Cheddar Rice here on Amazon. Cook your KD first, then cook the rice (which only takes 90 seconds at most). Combine the two, and you have a cheesy rice/noodle 'casserole' dish that is quick and adds some calories.
Bottom line... If you follow the directions you would be hard pressed to tell the difference between this KD and the KD made from a box. While it's obviously more expensive this way, you pay for the convenience. However, I actually like the smaller portions since it stops me from eating a whole box. :D
