No Great for Thick Branches at all !! 1/2" Max Blades are poor!

No Great for Thick Branches at all !! 1/2" Max Blades are poor!
Update after a year. Used maybe 5 times. Intermittent electrical problem. Wouldn't start again after letting go of the switch. However, warranty handling is horrible.Initially I was told in an email after confirmation of warranty etc. New one would be shipped. then nothing for weeks. Followed up and the dept handling it said I had to ship this unit back first, I had no box or return shipping label. That took two weeks by email. LOL I got it back after month and once confirmed received nothing. No shipping tracking or product for a full month now. Without a unit for 2 months. When I contacted the main office again and confirmed my claims and receipt of defective item. I was told to wait, another week or so which is over two weeks now. My bushes is dire need of trimming now and this entire process is extremely bad. What good is their warranty if you cannot get any resolution in Canada from them. Emails had not been acknowledge before I phone them. This is not a companies product you'd want to buy from. IMOI used this yesterday the first time as I had a lot of high limb on hedges I could never reach on the side and top. I wasn't going to risk attempting on a step ladder. Too many people have fallen and seriously injured so its not worth it!!!The power and cutting is great as long as you're not going after branches more than .5 or 1/2" as it will not cut. Despite the gap is wide enough the blades cutters are not sharpened, only beveled to cut and on a " V " angle outwards. These are two factors keep the bigger branches from getting in. The blade cutters are hitting the bark deflecting the branch back out because of the angle is pointing outwards.(see photo) No sharp inward edges to really cut with either and need to get a branch well in the jaw to be cut through. You can struggle on some big ones changing the angle etc and my eventually cut one or two after many minutes wearing yourself out holding the pole up high. Its a good upper body work out.The cutter needs a different design IMO. No sharp edges ground on this either unlike an old Sear trimmer I have. The cutting blade moving must not keep the branch from get in from being cut.I give 2 Stars since at lower levels it does make quick work of normal branches with the motors power. Would I buy it again. No, I'd look for a better blade for this application. Might return this even as I am disappointed.UPDATE:The cheaper model is a better cutter and handle branches specified but not this. Limit is about 1/2". I have intermittent electrical issue with it. Warranty yes but the process is convoluted. I was going to get a replacement sent first as the swap was. But now they say, NO, send the exiting one back first!!! It impossible to box a long item like this with any packaging one can find. 10lbs would be very costly for home owners we don't get special prices business's do. Anyway a month go buy and I am finding this out now. A big box store may have handled it. Amazon cannot either as its just beyond 1 year.I'd have second thought getting something like this again. Two reps at Sun Joe with one saying they're pre ship and the other saying NO you ship to use first. LOL Am I happy. Nope !!!

Works great reaching tall hedges. It is top heavy but that's what you need to expect when you put a trimmer at the end of a tall pole, just take breaks. I still gave a 5 star, this tool made trimming a very tall hedge a breeze, no ladder needed now plus I got an amazing warehouse deal on it. If you want it to remain sharp and not rust oil the blades after each use, just good maintenance.

I really wanted to give this a 5* rating as it is easy to put together, does a fantastic job at cutting through decent sized branches, and is at a terrific price. There is one downside to it and that’s the amount of weight at the cutting end which results in tired arms after a while of use. I had hoped to leave it with my parents after trimming their garden but there is no way they would manage the weight. Overall it is still a fantastic trimmer!

I bought this as I require more reach than my existing trimmer for about 10% of the stuff needing trimming. It cuts like butter when new and is easy enough to transform to and from pole mode. The issue is that the entire machine with heavy motor at the end of a long pole is very awkward to use for any extended length of time. The other issue is the un-ergonomic safety mechanism that requires both hands to engage both handle triggers (when not using in pole mode). This means that you can not reach nearly as far as basic trimmers (which only have safety switch mechanism on one end), requiring the use of the pole mode much more often. For this reason I need to keep my old trimmer for 90% of use, and use this one only in the pole mode. Otherwise I'd have to use pole mode about 50% of the time and it is actually too long in the shortest pole mode to comfortably reach that mid-length area which i can easily reach with my old (non pole) trimmer.

This worked so good on my cedar hedges and box hedge. I was super impressed and this will shave so much time off of my yard work. The strap that came with it kept coming undone so I just tied it up and that solved that issue. I'm a 63 year female and I chose this trimmer as it was lighter weight. I found it a little heavy when I had it on the extension pole and I don't think I would have the strength if the pole were fully extended. Without the pole it was totally fine.

I was able to shape some very large trees (ficus) and bushes with this trimmer. I’d estimate that it was able to cut branches of about 1”. I’m 83 years old and not all that strong. Sometimes it was a struggle for me, particularly when using it with the extension pole. I knew it would be and don’t fault the product. I don’t think there is a much lighter product available that is as efficient as this device. A lot of care was taken in producing this safe and sturdy. There are several shutoff switches to stop it if one looses control. The pole attachment is solid and secure. There is a cover for the trimmer when it isn’t in use and a strap attached to the pole to make it easier to use when extended.
