This tube has a well balanced, colorful tone with strongly defined lows, mids and smooth highs. It allows for more clean head-room than higher gain 12AX7s. In overdrive, it is smooth and strong with well defined lows and mids. When pushed into overdrive it offers clean distortion with well balanced lows and mids. The JJ 12AX7 is well suited for all types of music and playing styles. It is also highly recommended for studio pre-amps and hi-fi gear

I like my solid state class A amplifiers, used with active crossovers to power some large planar/dynamic hybrid open baffle speakers. They are not as full coloured as my 300B, 6CA7, OR EL84 amps, but are much more satisfying for deep bass.
A tube preamp seems to make the harmonics and structure of music, voice, and atmosphere more complete, yet still lacked much of the "bloom" of a tube power amp.
Switching in these JJ Tubes was intentioned to lower the gain on my preamp, and increase its useable volume pot range.
Surprise! These inexpensive babies restore all the bloom I've been missing, with an only barely noticeable treble exaggeration, easily compensated for by backing off the treble amplifiers volume about 2db.
Don't be put off by the low price of these. I prefer them in a preamp over several at hand NOS RCA, Sylvania, GE, and Mullards tubes. They also better my Shuguang and Psvane Treasure and Hifi series, in terms of balance, and a soundstage I can walk into.
These are excellent so far, and I hope they erase my past experiences with JJ/Tesla unreliability issues. Hopefully JJ will be way way more reliable.
If so, they will be a tremendous value, and I will try out their 12AU7 tube to complete my preamplifier's tube compliment.

These are not well described - you need to buy the mg model of JJ's 12ax7 to get the real medium gain preamp tube.
The S model is a good preamp tube - but with normal to high gain. You can refer to site like Tubestore or TubeDepot to verify this. Bought 2 of those because the description mentioned med gain tubes......it could be misleading.
