  • Q1: Why is it prohibited to format on a computer?

Its memory format only supports FAT32

Once it is formatted as exFAT/NTFS/APFS memory format on your computer, the system will be incompatible and cause problems such as the inability to record, work, or be recognized by the computer, even "Disk Errors" on the screen

Solution: Enter the menu on the audio recorder - system setting and select format

  • Q2: Can I only play recorded audio on the computer?

No, it has speakers so you can play it on the device or through headphones/computer. However, playback via headphones or a computer yields better audio quality than via local speakers. (Note that headphones are not included in the package)

  • Q3: What causes the recording to pause?

1. If headphones, computers, or other devices are connected during recording, it will interrupt the recording

2. In voice-activated recording mode, pause recording when sound is too low

  • Q4: Are there any notes for the voice activation function?

Note 1: The voice activation function is turned off by default. Refer to the manual to turn it on: go to [menu]-[recording settings[-[AVR mode], [voice operation switch]-[ON]. ([Voice operation level] default: 1, please do not change this value)

Note 2: After turning on the voice activation, you need to turn on the voice recorder, and it will record in voice activation mode

Note 3: Voice activation may miss subtle sounds, so it is not recommended for important occasions

  • Q5: Can't find the recording or music files in the audio recorder?

When the recording and music are in different folders, short-press the "MENU" button to switch between the music and recording folder at any time

  • Q6: Why does it show only around 59GB of memory on the computer?

Because the algorithm is different, the computer is according to 1024MB = 1GB, while memory manufacturers are producing memory according to 1000MB = 1GB

  • Q7: Unable to connect to my computer?

1. Before connecting the digital voice recorder to the computer, please turn it off. When connecting to the computer, please place it smoothly and do not press any buttons

2. Change the port and computer. MAC users: please change to a type-C adapter.

3. The computer lacks drivers and cannot recognize any devices. Please Google: download a computer drivers

  • Q8: How to get clear recordings?

1. Turn off the voice activation function when not needed.

2. Place it steadily to avoid friction with other objects such as hands or clothing.

3. Stay away from noise sources such as air conditioning, typing, scratching, friction, or slight noise generated by running computers

Suggestion: Record in a quiet environment, at least 30cm away from the recording source

This is a really useful little recorder.

It comes pre-set to record to record 512kbps WAV files, which will give you 288 hours of recording time on the 64GB version. That audio quality seems like serious overkill for a small recorder, and you’d be making much bigger audio files than necessary. The little built-in mics are never gong to capture that level of resolution.

To keep files small and maximize recording time, I have set mine to 128kbps MP3. That give 93 _days_ of record time, which should be enough for just about anything.

The audio quality is very clear from the built-in microphones. You can also record an external audio source using the headphone jack as an input (note that it requires line level audio, not the low level most mics output. You would need to run your mic through a small mixer than can convert to line level.)

As with any small recording device, the mics pick up lots of handling noise. You’re going to want to place the recorder on a table, or mount it in some way that reduces noise from handling it.

It has a clear LCD screen that automatically turns off to save battery. The little red record LED conveniently stays on all the time you are recording.

It has become very common these days to have buttons on devices perform multiple functions, and this unit is no exception. For basic recording and playback the buttons make sense and are useful. To go into the settings menus, the multi-purpose buttons are very confusing. For example, I am only able to scroll through the menu options starting at the bottom and going up from the last to the first. It is frustrating, but since you will probably only change the settings very infrequently it is not a big deal.

This is a great little recorder for students, researchers, and anyone who wants a convenient way to record audio. For example I always record all of my telephone calls with service providers, sellers, and tech support - it is amazing how often those recordings come in handy!

I had initially bought an equivalently priced Sony because I have trusted that name since my youth. I was extremely disappointed when I got the recorder as there was not even a backlight for the information window making it impossible to use unless in perfect light. Also it required aaa batteries which added to the weight. The Howabo by comparison uses rechargable battery, has a lit screen, is more compact and fits in your pocket and you don't notice it's there. I write, and I use this to record ideas when I'm not on a computer or don't have ready access to paper. I gave it only 4 stars on noise cancellation and sound quality as none of these little recorders can be used without picking up extraneous noise...not really the fault of this particular recorder, just the way it is. In its favour also is that it lets you choose the recording quality and can even record wav files. If you could lay it down or stand it up somehow you may be able to do broadcast quality recording, but that's not really what this machine is for. Over-all this is a worthy product!
