There is an important detail to this router which nobody explained. When the battery is sitting in its battery compartment, as initially shipped with the device, there is a very thin plastic strip which protects and insulates the battery contacts. This is only noticeable when one has taken off the back cover in order actually to insert the SIM card, and only noticeable to observant people. That protective strip must be removed from the battery contacts, before the battery is first charged. If one fails to do that, the battery never charges, and then, when one tries to boot the router, likewise, the router gets absolutely no current from the battery.

Once I had solved that little problem, the battery as shipped to me, only took 10 minutes to come to full charge. But, this did not make the device usable yet.

Having performed some of the required setup, I had arranged for a settings page to be visible to my WiFi-connected device, but with no Internet access. The error displayed in the Web interface stated "Unknown: EIOTCLUB (Disconnected)". I know that the SIM card I tried this with was an EIOTCLUB SIM card, I had inserted it into the micro-SIM format connector carefully, and the router's Web interface was displaying the details of the SIM card correctly.

I live in a suburb of Montreal, in the Canadian province of Quebec.

When experiencing this error, the LTE signal bars are in red, indicating some fault.

The brand of SIM card I chose at random was an EIOTCLUB, and 3 major Canadian carriers are listed by them as partners, at least one of who delivers LTE coverage to the home address where I tried this. This caused me some confusion as to what was not being recognized, and where to fix the problem, if possible.

As it turns out, when using this router with the given SIM card, one may not simply leave the router in the "Default APN" mode. One must set up a non-default APN config, in the advanced part of the Web interface, using the keyword which is named on the card that carries the SIM as the APN, and allowing the router to choose a means of authentication between the two it supports, even though one is supplying neither a username nor a password.

When I did that and clicked to restart the router, with some delay, the internet up-link LED on the router turned green, and I was able to access the Internet through the mobile hot-spot. So this experiment is finally a success.
