**** UPDATE ****Holy Stone was kind enough to reach out to me and replace my defective unit with one in perfect conditions, took me sometime to test because we had a couple of rainy days, and I was worried that it wouldn't resist water or a splash from the puddles. The new unit works great, although is not as stable as the Ryze Trello from DJI, this little guys is very fast and stable after taking off and swinging a little bit.PROS:- Very responsive- Easy to use- Initial setup is very easy to follow- Very detailed manual- Small frame makes it easy to fly anywhere- Great photo and video definition for the price pointCONS:- Camera gets choppy, specially on video mode- If you are using you phone, you need to disable mobile data for the real time video feed on the app to work=================================================================================Took it for a spin, after taking off, tilted to the left.Powered it off, and on, synched, calibrated, and again it went to the left on its own. On and off again, calibrated again, took off without touching the remote, still unstable and flying on its own, contacted Holy Stone support, and they asked me to make a video of the problem. It was a fun toy flight but not worth making videos to tech support, and proving that the cheap drone that they sold me, behaves like a cheap drone.I rather return it a buy something that will at least stay in one place while lifting off as it should, or from a brand that trusts me when I report an issue with the product.

This drone is impressive in every way from the way it folds into a compact unit to the way it flies is outstanding. It is a very stable platform and easy to fly. I've flown it both indoors and outdoors. You'll see from the video included in my review that the video is unsteady. That is because there was a wind and the gyro was fighting the wind and compensating to keep the drone stable. Other drones without the gyro would require a more experienced pilot to control it. My other drones require a lot of manual control input to combat the wind to control the drone but the HS 161 does it all for you automatically. This will help eliminate the frustrations for a new pilot and enable him/her to enjoy the experience without crashing. The flight time is approximately 10 minutes or so. I've ordered additional batteries so I can increase my flight time with the simple changing of batteries. I also downloaded the app (HS Easy Fly) to my phone and have used it to have an immediate point of view of the flight on the phone's display. I've also used the app on my phone to control the drone's flight. It's very convenient because you can take the drone with you in it's folded compact configuration and use your phone to control all the functionality without having to carry along the radio. The radio also has a foldaway holder for your phone when you use the phone as the display with the radio. The radio is easy to use and very intuitive. The included instruction booklet is easy to understand, well illustrated and details how to use all of the controls including the pairing of the radio to the drone and the calibration of the gyro. The “headless” mode is a nice feature as well as the “push to land button”. The radio will give an audible beep to warn that the the power on the drone is low and that it will automatically land within a minute of receiving the warning. I like that. It will also beep if the radio battery is low. The radio has a rechargeable battery which in my opinion is a good feature. All in all, this drone is a quality unit and is a lot of fun to fly for both experienced pilots and new pilots. I highly recommend this product.

 *New Update*
So I have received the replacement, and all I will say is that they had gone well above and beyond what I had expected in terms of making up for a bad experience. So for the customer service alone, I am giving them another star! Wish I could do 5 stars but because the experience I had with the drone , it would be dishonest and not a fair review.
And as for the new drone so far, only tested it out inside, it's been raining 2 days straight since I got it, so I can't leave a fair review on it yet. Will update on this one last time after a good test flight with more information!

*Update*
Without contacting them, the company contacted me and was very helpful in trying to make things right and making sure I get a fair experience with their drones! They offered me a replacement and should be getting it soon. I will update again once it arrives and I take it out for a flight! But overall the customer service is awesome, and it legitimately seems like they care about their customers. You don't see that much these days. So good on them! Keep it up!

Alright, so first off this is coming from someone with basic skills of flying drones. I've had a handful of cheap ones and a couple more up there in price, just to get used to.

So with that said, I still fly them into things once in awhile lol. This one held up fairly well for a bit, but a downfall of it, and a rather big one in my opinion, is that when it goes out of control, it shoots straight up into the air then the motors just cut out and it free falls down.

Much like the video I uploaded.

However because that was the reason for the first crash, which was the second time flying it outside, it kind of ruined the rest of my tries flying it. It would start up, and hover like it's supposed to, but once you try to gain any altitude the little bugger just goes, "I'M FREE" and shoots off for the stars. Then the motor cuts and plop.

I haven't tried to reach out about a replacement or anything, because honestly I've wasted money on much worse things. Lol so I have no comment on the customer service.

Overall though, it was fun while it lasted, easy to fly around and control, had a great many little rips around my basement before I took it outside. App connected easily enough and the camera was good for the price. I would recommend it if it's on sale and just want something to mess around with. It's not the greatest, (this is based solely off the assumption that mine was somehow defective, or became defective after it lost control) but I have flown drones that are so much worse for more $$ so it's always hit or miss unless you spend more than $300 for something a little better built and not built to be pushed out in bulk.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great beginners drone.

It's easy to set up. Fun right out of the box. I used to fly drones a few years ago and easily got back to grips with it's flight characteristics. It has a nice camera. Great still photos. Stability could be a bit better but it's a good drone. Ultra lightweight. Not that noisy and good value for a quality drone.

5.0 out of 5 stars A unique drone....I like it!!

One of the best things to like about this drone is that it is a Holy Stone. As usual, great design, durable and priced right. And Holy Stone customer service was timely and very helpful. They deserve their own 5 stars.

This is a very light drone and is easily moved by the wind. However, the optical flow does a good job of keeping things under control. When there is little or no wind, I found the drone extremely easy to control and very stable. It will move slowly enough that camera close ups are smooth and very easy to position when there is little wind. This drone is solid in windless conditions. When compensating for a breeze, it does require a little more control movement than a lot of other drones to get the desired drone movement. As far as I'm concerned, this is a GOOD thing. It makes creeping in for a close up on a windless evening a very easy task. I found the optical flow to be as good as GPS in many situations. I've flown it 50 feet down the driveway at 3 feet elevation and never had to touch the throttle stick. When the optical flow is off, this drone requires significantly more attention. It is very light and the higher it goes the more wind currents there are to affect it. The HS161 is very flyable, but you must monitor closely and respond quickly when the optical flow is off. The optical flow default is ON. It must be on the ground to turn it OFF or back ON. Optical flow will limit altitude to about 10m.

So..not really a sport flyer, but fun and a good platform for developing camera skills. And the camera is the best I've seen in a drone of this size and price. Could an absolute beginner be successful with this drone? Yes. Just leave the optical flow on and practice in still air. It's very, very stable. And I'm surprised at the durability. I clipped a pine about 20 feet up and the drone fell through the branches to the ground. One of the motor arms had folded back into it's housing. I pulled it out again, set the drone down on the level, re-calibrated and flew again with incident.

So what could be better? It fits in my pocket when folded. I can use it as a hand held camera and see the real time image on my phone. When I did this, the drone was synced to the controller and the camera was transmitting to the phone. I don't know if you can get this configuration without the controller. During your darkest hour, the drone can actually be used as a bright flashlight.

In summary, I REALLY like this drone! It's little, light and slow. I don't care. The appeal of precise control in close spaces is huge for me. And on calm evenings, the HS161 delivers to the max. I've got four other drones but this little guy is quickly becoming my favorite.

5.0 out of 5 stars HS430 Drone - great little learner drone

A great little learner drone less than A$100 from Holy Stone.. easy to fly and easy to follow operating instructions a little bit on the light side so in a good breeze its difficult to hold its position but that was to be expected being its so light, excellent support from Holy Stone, they have a help line on WhatsApp, I'm looking to upgrade to a more substantial' drone once I'm confident of my flying capabilities when I do it'll be a HS drone

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Mini Drone

I am a new Drone user so this is from someone that has never controlled one before and also I am old, over 70 years so I was not sure which drone was best for me. I wanted one that was simple to learn,fpv-wifi, live video, ability for photos and a solid build as I was sure that I would crash many times. After looking at 100 or so ad's I decided that Holy Stone HS 430 would be a good choice, price, build, and company reputation as they make high end drones down to mini ones.
When the drone arrived it was shipped in a bag, no box, so I was a bit concerned of damage. No worry as the drone was in a plastic like container and protected inside the bag. Opening package I was a little surprised at the size (its a mini drone) but the drone is made with very high end armored type plastic and comes with all the listed parts. I read the complete instructions, charged the battery's' lined up the drone and off it went. I crashed 3 or 4 times in a row but the drone didn't have any damage. The battery kept a charge for my first outing 1/2 hour and maybe 10 total min. of fly time. The controls were perfect, No damage at all to the body or blades.
Picture on my phone was very sharp, and the app was easy to download and use. For the price and the way this thing is constructed I would say its a super deal for a learner drone and one that would be fun for a seasoned operator to play with.
Being new, I was pleased at the lift off and really surprised at the speed this thing has. The control's work good, the operator not so good, but I am looking forward to getting better at flying.

In summary this is a good deal, a strong body, great instructions, motors seem to be really good, Live video is really clear and sharp. I have no bad things to say about this drone. Looking for a mini drone you wont go wrong with this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy to fly and setup, robust, OK video

A few years ago I built a 250 class racing drone and scared myself to death. It was too fast for a beginner. I also got a little Hubsan and that was fun but I got bored of it...
Fast forward a few years and now these little guys have altitude hold, foldable wings, 1080p cameras and FPV to your phone. All in a little convenient package.

It took me a while to choose as there is so much competition. It was this or the HS165 and this one had better youtube reviews.

The altitude hold is a game changer. It means that when you move it forwards, sideways, backwards etc it will maintain its height without you having to give it more or less throttle. This makes it incredibly easy to fly.

The controller feels OK but it's hard to make smooth adjustments. It's a bit on-off.

The written instructions are good quality and it's really easy to setup.

My Android phone (Moto G7) pairs straight away and allows a FPV from the drone. It takes some getting used to. In my demo flight video here I actually crashed into a giant birds of paradise :-)
I poked it out of the tree and it landed on the grass. A prop and guard came off, but they went straight back on and it was flying again straight away.

If you want to video or take pictures you need to use speed-1 only. If you go faster its hard to make smooth adjustments and the video looks jerky.

It's not a 5 star, mainly for the battery:
- The battery lasts 10mins and replacement ones are $30. It's a little 3.7V 1000mAh which the battery on its own would be maybe $5. Adding plastics is adding $25 which seems a bit greedy (but they all do it)
- You can only recharge it using the USB cable, which is painfully slow. I have a hobby RC charger that would charge it 10x faster, but I can't connect it.

On a couple of occasions its also just spontaneously fell out of the air. Both times I was near a large metal clothes airer, so I think that interferes with the signal if you're too close. Don't go near the power lines!

A great value, good starter drone.
