Modern phones are great and all, but it seems like with every new feature they add, they end up taking something away. In this case, the headphone jack... and I miss having the simplicity of a headphone jack.

Thankfully, niche gadgets such as this offer a quick solution to a somewhat annoying problem. These dongles are plug & play with no setup required, and having two in the pack means that both my wife and I can get the benefits they provide.

The dongle-style works just fine, but I think I would simply prefer an adapter that is a straight USB-C to AUX connection, rather than adding bulk to the design with the inclusion of the extra port. But obviously I knew what I was getting into when I ordered, and at least the device is still very compact all things considered.

We have an upcoming flight in the next few weeks, so I'm looking forward to putting this gadget through its paces with some prolonged listening while in the air. But so far everything seems to perform as expected, and that's all I can really ask.

These adapters allow you to use 3.5mm earphones with phones that only have a USB-C connector while allowing charging. Both audio and charging work with our Samsung S21 Ultra (but slow charging), while the charging pass-through works inconsistently on my Samsung S23 Ultra. Output sound quality seems to be more tin-like than our USB-C to 3.5mm adapters.

I mostly use Bluetooth earphones but have two pairs of noise-isolating earphones that I use on airplanes, allowing me to connect directly to the plane’s entertainment centre. A recent flight with Air Canada Rouge (no on-board entertainment) made me realize that I should carry an adapter on flights so I can watch (and hear) media on my phone.

Note that the adapters can be used as a 3.5mm jack only, a USB-C power throughput only, or for both 3.5mm and charging. When unplugging either port, my phone’s audio “pause” and need to reconnect.

Although I appreciate being able to charge and listen, I prefer the better sound and more consistent performance from my USB-C to 3.5mm adapters.

Generally this product works well. However, depending on your power source you can get a terrible electrical hum on your audio. For example, when plugged into a USB A outlet on a power bar run by an inverter on a vehicle.

However, when using a QC 3.0 USB A 12v power source, sound is clean and works well.

Regardless of power source, however, charging while this device is in use is extremely slow. After 3 hrs my battery only when up 3% on my pixel 7. Without the device my phone easily would have been fully charged in that amount of time.

Those items works as it should. You can use your headphone and also charge your phone. It's easy and it works. It's great for kids too. As many wireless earbuds are to big for them, you can simply use kids headphones now!

The ones I received are a very ugly blue, not white; they work great though. I would definitely prefer something shorter, but I suppose they added the extra cord length to allow for flexibility. I needed something for audio tours because I don't want to bring $300 ear buds on a ferry. I combined this adapter with a pair of cheap lightweight headphones, and the sound quality makes the grade for my purposes.
