1.0 out of 5 starsPoor Quality Build, Meh Quality Sound (Broken)
Reviewed in Canada on April 19, 2021
UPDATE: The unit stopped working. I turned it on today, and it just started making popping sounds instead of music, and nothing I did would make it work. My computer doesn't recognize it as an audio output, neither does my laptop. The unit is dead, and I haven't even owned it for a year.
I bought this because the onboard audio in my PC wasn't powerful enough for my headphones. The reviews looked good, the price was low... so, why not.
Right off the hop, package was a month late... Not a good first impression, but fine. Pandemic and all that.
I get the package, and the box wasn't even "Fosi" brand. It was some generic "hifi audio" box. Okay... Fine, Chinese companies do this all the time, rebrand products and sell as though it's their own. Not a big deal...
Build quality:
Oh... wow... it's bad. First, the knobs feel like they're going to cut me every time I turn them. The power switch integrated into the knob is difficult to turn on. The input switch feels flimsy, like it's going to break every time I use it. The rubber feet looked hastily pressed on, not lined up or anything. The whole thing moves and tilts when I plug my headphones in.
Audio quality:
The sound is... average. Some lack of clarity in the mids and highs, and a bit of distortion is turned up higher than 50%. But the worst part, and the reason this is a no-buy for me, is the balance... there is none. The right channel is SIGNIFICANTLY louder than the left, and even when digitally balanced on my pc, there is no way to get them the same.
This product, like another Fosi product I purchased at the same time, is an actual waste of money. If you buy this, or anything from Fosi, you'll wish you'd spent more money on something better. Do yourself a favour - save up for a better option.
