Firstly let me comment on the physical product itself, and the company behind it. Great design. Great quality. Committed brand, with a good track record I think you can trust. Easy to physically install if you are comfortable with connecting wires, and can turn off a circuit breaker. You MUST have white "neutral" wires, which typically any electrical system done since the 1980's will have. Instructions are straight forward. You might discover some of your existing switches are not wired in typical ways. If this is the case and you don't fully understand it, get an electrician. I think most people will be okay.
BUT … from an all around software setup perspective, this is by far the most aggravating installation experience I ever had - until it wasn't. This is the FIRST Matter protocol device I have installed in my Apple Home. I DO have the required Matter/Thread routers that are needed. In this case of an Apple Home, several Apple TVs and HomePods. If you use Google Home, or Alexa, or other you MUST also have in your home a “Matter Hub” capable product from Google or Alexa respectively.
I spent almost a full time week, googling, trying various things, getting frustrated, and I would rate myself a 9/10 on expertise in this area. Until I learned the best trick. You HAVE to FULLY commit if you want to move to the Matter, protocol and I think you SHOULD. Even if you do at first get it working without this drastic step, I think you are just pushing hidden problems into the future. Start FRESH.
All those smart home rules, profiles, pairings, etc you have built over the years - you should DELETE THEM ALL, and FACTORY RESET ALL your smart home devices. Delete your ENTIRE home profile. Start over completely. Drastic yes. But just like it is much easier to build a quality new home from scratch, rather than patchy renovations to an existing home, the same applies to a smart home when moving to a very different technology, in this case “Matter”.
If you want to get into the Matter ecosystem, and I think any serious smart home enthusiast SHOULD, you have to understand that you are much more on your own right now than by sticking with a current proprietary ecosystem. The attempt to make Matter work with many different platforms, means the ability for product manufacturers, and Ecosystems - like Apple, Google, or Alexa support, to assist you is very limited, even when they want to.
One MORE step. Do the same with your router. FACTORY RESET. It also plays a core essential role in the reliability of your smart home. If you have a cheap router you should really consider something higher end.
When I took the deep dive, and started from scratch, I was able to set up all my Matter devices with ease. Another suggestion - just because matter claims to be able to support multiple home ecosystems out of the box, DON’T do that. You are asking for trouble, Pick 1 like HomeKit as I did, or Google Home, or Alexa, or SmartThings, or other platforms, and do EVERYTHING on that ONE platform. Also install the manufacturer specific apps for direct control of your devices, outside of any ecosystem. Reduce complexity, don’t embrace it. Yes, Matter is still quite frustrating, but most of the issues should be solvable through updated ecosystem software and product firmware. I still believe it will become THE standard, likely the ONLY standard in the future. So unless you need features not yet supported by Matter, I think Matter devices are worth the initial pain, to future proof your investment.
Hope that helps !
The installation process was straightforward, and the switch seamlessly integrated with my existing home network. The Wi-Fi connectivity is robust, ensuring reliable performance without any lag or disconnection issues.
One of the standout features of this switch is its compatibility with the Matter smart home standard. This ensures that the switch can work with a wide range of smart devices, making it a versatile addition to any smart home ecosystem.
The Kasa app is user-friendly and allows for easy control and customization of the light switch. Whether it’s setting schedules, adjusting brightness, or even controlling the switch remotely, the app handles it all with ease.
In terms of design, the switch sports a sleek and modern look that blends well with different interior styles. The build quality is excellent, promising durability and longevity.
In conclusion, the Kasa Matter Smart Wi-Fi Light Switch by TP-Link is a fantastic investment for those looking to upgrade their home automation. It offers great functionality, ease of use, and compatibility, all of which contribute to a superior user experience. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to make their home smarter!
Setting up the smart switch was a breeze in terms of the physical installation. The clear instructions provided made it easy to connect the wires correctly, and the switch itself is of excellent quality. However, when it came to configuring the switch through the companion app on my old phone, I encountered some difficulties. It seemed that my phone's compatibility was a bit of an issue, causing setup problems within the app. I was getting a bit frustrated until I decided to give it a try on my friend's newer smartphone, and the difference was remarkable.
On the new phone, the setup process was a walk in the park. The app was responsive, and I was able to establish a connection between the smart switch and my home network effortlessly. Once the initial configuration was complete, I was pleasantly surprised by how seamlessly it integrated with Alexa. Now, I can easily control the connected devices with voice commands, and the switch automatically connects after you set it up in the app.
The overall build quality of the smart switch is top-notch. It feels durable and reliable, giving me confidence that it will last for a long time without any issues. I haven't experienced any problems with it since the successful setup on the new phone.
In conclusion, this smart switch has been a game-changer for my home automation setup. While there were initial hurdles in the setup process due to my older phone, once I switched to a newer device, it worked flawlessly. It's an excellent addition to my smart home, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable and convenient way to control their devices. Just ensure you have a compatible device for the initial setup, and you'll be enjoying its convenience in no time.

The three-way switches require that you purchase a pair, which takes a bit more installation time and costs more. I would have liked a 3-way switch that worked with existing non-smart switches.
The design of the switches is clean, and they look great.
Installation was a breeze. Unlike the complex setup often associated with smart switches, Kasa made the process foolproof with its step-by-step guide in the app. This ease of installation, combined with the clear instructions, made it accessible, even for someone with limited experience in DIY electrical work.
The switch itself is robust and has a satisfying tactile feel, significantly better than the Wemo version I previously used. Its design fits standard wall plates, seamlessly blending into my home without the need for any modifications.
I also love the hardly noticable light ring built into the switch when it is turned off, making for ease of locating the switch in the dark.
Functionality-wise, the switch shines with its smart features. The ability to control lighting from anywhere using the Kasa app is not just a convenience; it’s a game-changer. I particularly love the scheduling feature, which I use to automatically turn off the pantry and closet lights after 5 minutes, addressing the all-too-common issue of lights being left on.
The integration with voice assistants like Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant adds another layer of ease, allowing for hands-free control that feels futuristic yet intuitive.
From a cost perspective, the Kasa HS210 offers exceptional value. Its performance, ease of use, and reliability come at a price point that’s hard to beat, making it not just a smart choice for now, but also a cost-effective investment for the future.
The Kasa Smart 3 Way Switch HS210 KIT has exceeded my expectations in every aspect. Its installation simplicity, user-friendly app, functional reliability, and cost-effectiveness make it a standout product. I’m so satisfied with its performance that I plan to replace my remaining Wemo switches with Kasa’s offering. For anyone looking to upgrade their home lighting system, this smart switch is a brilliant choice.

The dimming and increasing shade of lights work magics. Love it
